Saw this when it came out in 1950s :) Yeah, I'm that old
This is in the 1950s "what horror can we expect?" type movies a lot of hyp, but James Arness went on to star for 20 years as the lead in GUNSMOKE TV Western. You have to take the breaks when they come. Usual cheesy alien and people running about. However, it is still a real look at what we saw and cringed at in the theaters while munching popcorn and drinking Coca-Cola. I saw this in a theater in San Antonio in the heat of the summer. My mother and I were on our way to a tour of Mexico and our hotel stopover was not air conditioned, we saw it three times in a row to stay cool. Absolute classic 1950s scifi / horror.
As a kid I must have watched The Thing on a 21" B&W TV, with a horribly grainy print of the movie. It's really nice to see it in this digital format on a big screen TV.

Classic Sci Fi, Glad I Purchased the Movie
Always loved this classic black & white sci-fi movie directed by Christian Nyby, produced by Edward Lasker for Howard Hawks'. Watched it Saturday night, will watch again soon. It is such a cool movie. Takes place at the north pole at the time of the cold war (no pun intended) with Russia, references are made in the movie regarding Russian aircraft flying over US territory. You can see the zippers on the costumes ilow budget 50s corn ball sci fi but i loved its so bad its good dont miss this one ford tail lights for rey guns set looked like a huge litter box the head guy looks like a waiter at a.
