Risen (DVD, 2016)

Good movie for the right audience

This is a "Christian" movie so it is not for everyone. The atmosphere, costumes and sets of ancient Judea are good. The actors speak English which kind of bothers me after hearing Aramaic/Latin used in the epitome of this genre. The main character (A Roman tribune working for Pontius Pilate) is very credibly portrayed by Joseph Fiennes. The movie has some graphic violence and very realistic scenes involving dead bodies and the crucifixion. Way above average for a "Christian" movie. While not on par with "The Passion" I still really liked it (Most Christian movie are so badly produced they make me cringe).Vollständige Rezension lesen

Eternal Life Without Christ

A big plus for having this movie in the common tongue of the intended audience: English speakers. The world has had a refined and purified English version of the Bible for a good 150 years so I never understand the need to have the story of Jesus Christ remain in dead languages with pagan definitions. The Passion of the Christ comes to mind.

The production value was good and I didn't detect any troubling doctrinal errors much. Would have been nice though if the crosses looked more like a lower-case "t" instead of a capital one. They did good not rehashing the entirety of the crucifixion.

I had assumed that the movie would be about the main character's search for Christ which would end in him finding a resurrected Jesus, however, he finds Jesus midway through the movie. At this point, the settings and the persona of the main character changes which makes it feel like two loosely-connected movies in one. The second half of the movie was mellow without Rome in the picture (with Christ on the scene, I guess you can't expect chaotic drama in your life).

Finally, the biggest issue I had with the movie... it portrayed the gospel without "Jesus Christ". Why have the whole movie in English yet when it comes to the only name by which men are saved, it was obfuscated by the Hebrew pronunciation? No other name in the film was rendered in this manner. The only mention of Jesus you will find is in the special features. Seems like they tried real hard to keep that name hidden. "Mission complete." -Pharisee

not a home run

Premise of the story line is good, settings and scenes very fine to see. Several things keep it from taking off. Machine pressed gold coins? Nope. Way too much whispered dialog. Critical informational scenes not clear because too much of an actor emoting. Vollständige Rezension lesen

RISEN is the title of the movie, and it is correct, period.

RISEN is a very accurate movie about Jesus Christ, except for one detail: the English movie never mentions the English name 'Jesus' in the movie which seems odd to me an English-speaking person?!

Risen - High quality, great story.

Acting and production were as good as any Hollywood production. Good script with drama, action, humor, etc. Lots to like. Highly recommend for both non-believers and Christians. Bought several copies as gifts after seeing in the theater.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Grand Old Story, Great New "Different" Perspecitve

Of all the movies that we've seen over the years concerning the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, This is the only one that I've seen from the perspective of a Roman commander thrown into the role of an investigator. Holds your interest in a good way.

Joseph Fiennes is an awesome actor, the story is believable though a story. Other great actors include Curtis/Yeshua and Peter Firth/Pilate. Loved Bartholomew and Simon Peter, too!

Great Christian movie with a awesome story line.

Softening of the heart!!!

I encourage everyone to pray for revelation as God knows your heart prior to watching this movie. Like all things God reveals, this is not for entertainment purposes.
