Buy it for $15 or less.

Bought this game because of the great reviews I've heard from various game sites. I must say that I was well pleased.... but this game is NOT for the kiddos. If you are looking to purchase this game for anyone under 20, I'd say look elsewhere.

So, if you still plan on buying it, I'll give you the low-down.

This game is a very cinematic video game. Reminds me of the "Space Ace" and "Dragons Lair" games of the past.... but with a much better story and easy to understand controls. The amount of time you actually get to walk around VS. interacting with cutscenes is less than 50/50. That being said, there are rather intense moments that make it OK that you're not in complete control.

The story revolves around a mysterious string of murders of one called "The Oragami Killer" You play as four different characters who all are different players in solving the murder. Your actions in various points of the story will make for different choices later in the game (however, you can easily go back and fix blunders).

So, now why this isn't for the kiddos. There's frequent swearing (including the F-bomb... lots of that one), scenes of intense (and disturbing) violence, and nudity scenes (shower scenes, a "romantic session", and a forced strip-tease.) So, like I said, do NOT buy this for your kids.

Overall, the game was a great story and would have made for an awesome TV series. The re-play value is good until you platinum it, then it may be a "once in a blue moon" type of game.

Heavy Rain

I played a demo for Heavy Rain on my PS3 about the time it was initially released, and I enjoyed the interactive drama game play. It was rather refreshing and involving, especially since it's not an action-oriented game. Around Christmas I decided to get it for myself as a gift, as the price was right. The story, while occasionally far fetched, is overall very believable. The characters are very detailed, both graphically and in personality. It's easy to get sucked in if you've ever liked a crime drama TV show. However, and I may be at a minority here, but I found parts of it excessively violent even for that sort of setting. There were also occasional times where I'd have done something that wasn't an option for the characters. Perhaps that's for the sake of the story, but I wondered, "Why wouldn't you even consider doing this instead?" Overall I feel it was a good purchase, especially for the price I got it at new on e-bay, and if you like interactive drama or crime drama at all you should give it a try. Remember that you can download the demo from Playstation Store to make sure it's for you before you buy.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Not a game but as interactive fiction it's worth a look

I have to say, I wasn't to sure what I was getting into. Sure, I'd heard about this game, read reviews, but it's one of those things that needs to be experienced to really know what the hell this thing is. The best thing to say is it's an interactive movie, filled with QTE's. Now, this may sound like complete crap considering that QTE's have been sucking enjoyment out of games for a few years now, but oddly enough it isn't that bad. It seems that since the game was built around this game play concept, it avoids QTE's usual pitfalls. The story is an interesting drama, with enough twists to keep your interest. Though, after a little thought, the story has quite a few plot holes so if you can't deal with an average game level story this game could be a long painful process. Plus, while the graphics do their best, the uncanny valley does rear it's unnerving head. The game has a lot of twists and turns, but really beyond death little makes huge impacts on the story. Overall, it's an interesting novelty, and the fact that it's become pretty popular makes me hopeful more interactive fiction can be green lighted, but its not a system seller.

The Good: An interesting story, and the games QTE's didn't turn me off.
The Bad: Story still only normal game quality, uncanny valley.
Letter Grade: B

I paid a price of $40 dollars. I feel that that was a pretty good price.

Like A Movie : Video Game Became A Movie

When you start the game, You will dive to game. Then you will control game characters. Graphic project like real and sounds drive me thrill. You can make a decision as characters. I think that this makes people I am in the game and I am one of them. When there are actions, you have to input some commands. It is really good, too.

But playing it two or three hours later, I started to feel little bit bored. Even though I can choose choices, that doesn't effect too much. After seeing good ending then you can guess bad endings. Also there is no more fun. Just player can try to get trophies.

Honestly I might say, you should play this game once because this game will make you film director.

Cool Game with Good Graphics, Good Story

If you're first person shooter fan, or a 'gotta have constant action' person, Don't buy this game. Its kinda slow paced, and more for the story interaction. It reminds me of 'DREAMFALL' for the Original XBOX. The decision making and story line are what keeps you riveted. The first time through the game went faster than I thought, but now I find myself going back and replaying the story and making different choices. Good stuff.

The play control can be a little frustrating at times, and you need to know your PS3 controller really well for the spit second button pushing. And like I stated above, the game isn't an action-packed thrill ride. It was more of an interactive movie or tv series.

To me Heavy Rain is groundbreaking in that it allows you to make choices to view different endings. I look forward to the next generation of games like this where not only do the endings change, but the entire storyline and experience changes as you play. Well worth the ebay buy.

Great game! Unique story with a strange twist to control

Heavy Rain takes you in to the world of a killer named the "origami Killer." With it's in depth involvement in the life of the victims, and it's ability to keep you curious as to what's next, keeps you playing for hours. It's only small negative in my personal opinion is it's ability to be slow moving if you wish to truly dive in to the story line. The great news is if you wish to move along quickly you can simply control that aspect of the game. I loved it! I felt like I was watching a movie the whole time while being involved in the emotions of the victims.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Heavy Rain

When I worked at BestBuy I'd always argue with the other guys in Media (Gaming) about why I enjoyed PS3 more than XBox360 even though the 360 had more exclusive titles. My argument was that PS3 had a higher ratio of solid exclusive titles and this one ranks among my favorites.

In Heavy Rain, you take control of the lives of 4 different individuals whose stories begin to intermingle with the kind of fluid story telling the late Philip K. Dick was known for. The story pulls you in almost immediately and completely. Similar to Indigio Prophecy in play style (choosing individual actions which have immediate and long-term ramifications), Heavy Rain is still a very unique game. I'm glossing over the story primarily because if you're reading this then chances are you already know the basic plot.

The controls took a short while to get use to (have to hold R2 to move). There was only one spot that the controls really bothered me (crawling through a ventilation shaft covered in broken glass).

This game has excellent replay value as every play through is unique (with so many seemingly minor choices to make, it's incredibly difficult to play the same game twice). The game itself is relatively short and can be completed in a weekend (much like the Uncharted series) but is so intense that you'll want to play it again for the alternate endings before the credits finish rolling.

one of the most unique games I have ever played. Highly recomended.

Why you bought it?
- different from any other game I've played. RPG fan by nature, it was a perfect fit.
What you like most about it?
- The unique control style sets this game apart.Story/graphics are top notch.
What you dislike about it?
- The only negative about this game was the exclusion of multiple platforms. It did however give me a chance to use my PS3 for other than blue ray movie watching.
Whether or not you would buy the product again?
- Recommendation is HIGH for this game. I would and have bought this game as gifts for others/myself on different occasions.

Powerful and emotionally engaging narrative

The goal of every story is to form some degree of connection with its observer. Most often, this link is fleeting at best, but every now and then, a much deeper bond is formed. This bond is one in which the observer is less of a passive participant and more of an emotionally engaged accomplice. Though many video games (as well as most novels and movies) strive to be the latter, Heavy Rain is one of those few games that can claim to have truly achieved this lofty objective. A powerful interactive drama, Heavy Rain is an intensely absorbing experience that meticulously conveys the tension, urgency, surprise, and tragedy that its characters feel. Though the overall direction of the plot cannot be changed, the ongoing narrative adapts to your every action and cultivates a deeply personal journey that leaves everyone who undertakes it with something different.

How far are you prepared to go to save someone you love? This is the central question of Heavy Rain and one that the protagonist, Ethan Mars, is compelled to answer. After Ethan's son goes missing and is presumed to be the latest victim of the mysterious Origami Killer, he vows to do whatever it takes to rescue his boy. Besides Ethan, you also take control of three other seemingly unrelated individuals that have been drawn into the case: private investigator Scott Shelby, FBI criminal profiler Norman Jayden, and insomniac Madison Paige.

Though it takes a little while to pick up, Heavy Rain is an immersive interactive drama that sucks you in and doesn't let go. As you control each of the four characters, onscreen prompts have you press buttons in sequence, move the right analog stick in specific directions, shake the controller, and more to interact with the scenes. Each input is proportionally difficult to the task being performed, and when a character is scared or stressed, the floating prompts tremble accordingly. This unconventional control scheme does a fantastic job of grounding you to the characters and their emotional states. Your actions approximate theirs, and the often short amount of time you have to react to new situations mirrors their own reaction time. There is plenty of action to be found in the form of brutal and violent brawls, heart-pounding chases, and deadly gunfights, but even such mundane tasks as brushing your teeth or rocking a baby to sleep are surprisingly engaging, and help to strengthen your bond with the characters.

Unlike other games that make extensive use of quick-time events, Heavy Rain does not track your progress in terms of success and failure. There is no right or wrong way to play; thus, no matter what your outcome is, the game will move forward and adapt to the consequences of your actions or lack thereof. Though the overall narrative framework is unyielding, your performance throughout the game can have a variety of effects, ranging from subtle changes in how a scene plays out to much bigger adjustments. Entire events may not occur because your actions and choices caused the plot to branch in a different direction. It's even possible for key characters to die, thus eliminating any subsequent contributions to the story that they might have made. No matter what happens in your play-through, the adaptive plot of Heavy Rain becomes a deeply personal sum of your experiences.

A video game, or a work of art?

I think I looked forward to this game more than any other title this year... mainly because it is so completely different than anything else out there. Finally a game you can get immersed in! This is what I expect my gaming experience to deliver.

Visually stunning right from the get-go... there is no "tutorial"... only easy steps in the game to follow once you get into the prologue that get you used to the game, which I find refreshing.

Every action you take early on can affect something way down the line, making you really appreciate the meaning of "the butterfly effect". I haven't even scratched the surface yet, and already I'm addicted. Morality plays a huge role in the game... a multitude of options thoughout the game let you play the characters the way you want.

I wish I could write more about the game, but as I have not yet finished any of the multiple endings possible, or most of the 50+ trophies, I am at a loss for the full scope of things. It's simply a must-play, must-experience game that will leave you hungry for more everytime you stop playing.
