Onion Knights Unite!

Reviewed for Big Boss Games by: T.R.C.

This is the first time that FF III has ever been released in the USA. I for one have waited a really long time for this game to come out in the states. In this long awaited game you can choose up to 23 possible job classes like black, white, red mages, you also have your fighters, knights, dark knights, and finally some unique classes like ninja, samurai, dragoons and last, but not least, onion knights, "The best job class for the end of the game because you need to be at least Player level 96 to make these guys shine."

Darkness is starting to take over the world, your mission should you choose to accept it in this great game is to restore balance to the world of light.

Story 7/10 - The story was great because of all the cool people that you met along your journey to saving the world, yet again. " The world needs self defense classes!" They range from an old pilot; a young prince and rouge man each with their own unique skills. This game had it all from comedy to action and some drama tossed in for fun.

Sound 7/10 - the sound in Final Fantasy III was very good. I still hum some of the songs that I was able to hear in this game.

Graphics 8/10 I only have one word for the graphics in this game "WOW", from stale, 2D sprites of the original Nintendo Famicom to spectacular 3D graphics on the Nintendo DS.

Game play 8/10 - Was cool on the DS. Item of note, the remake takes advantage of the Wi-Fi hardware of the Nintendo DS in the form of a Mail/Mognet system. Various moogles in the game allow the player to send mail to others. Players are also able to send mail to various characters in the game, as well as to other players. Side quests can also be unlocked using this system, such as the quest to unlock the Onion Knight. The way my friend and I got around the 1 email per hour limit was to send a letter, open the letter save the game, turn off the system. Then turn it back on and change the day on your DS system then go back into the game and send another email. Do this about 8 times and you can start on the quest to gain the onion knights!

Overall 7/10 - It took me over 70+ hours to beat this game and most of that time was spent leveling up my onion knights. Any Final Fantasy fan would love this game. If only for the fact that it is a great game and this is the first time that this game has seen our shores. PLAY THIS GAME!

One of the better DS titles

I bought this game because I love Final Fantasy games, and it didn't disappoint. This game is a remake of the old FFIII that was never released in America. It features a job system and trademark Final Fantasy stuff like Chocobos and airships. It has only a halfway decent story for a FF game so far (haven't beaten it yet), but the battle system is very enjoyable in my opinion. The graphics are a little juvenile, but if you can get past that, they're pretty detailed and not bad for a DS game. Overall, I'd recommend this game, although if you're looking for an amazing RPG for the DS, and haven't yet played it, GET CHRONO TRIGGER FIRST!!!!!!!! It's a much better Square title. Trust me.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Final Fantasy III, The Classic Reborn

One thing i love about Final Fantasy III is that it uses the classic battle system. No A.T.B. gauge and you actually have to TRY and keep your team alive unlike all the newer ones where you can easily get revived at inns/save crystals/ and with phoenix downs. The fact that phoenix downs are such a rare drop make the game a lot more challenging but also a lot more enjoyable. I also love the job system, being able to pick whatever team you want is defiantly a great thing. One thing i don't like is having to get on Mognet to get 100% game completion. Some people don't know others with a Nintendo D.S. System, and most don't like connecting over Wi-Fi. One great way and the way i did it was found a friendly, trustworthy person on GameFAQs and we privately gave each other our code and sent the required 7 mails to each other. This is the best way, trust me. One more thing i really love bout the game is the fact you can double wield weapons, it's so pwnage! I love that they decided to remake one of the classic Final Fantasy games for the D.S system which has pretty decent graphics, it brings back the old adventure in a more enjoyable way! Well that's about all i have.

Go FF!!

Ive played all the final fantasy games so far on the NES, SNES,and PS2. This game was originally for SNES, I was not able to play it because it was never released in America. So it was remade as a DS game so Americans can play it (reason I decided to buy it).
Im a "classic" gamer so i really like the fighting style in this game since it reminds me of the other final fantasy games ive played. The newer ones like FF12 is so much different because you have to move your character as you fight.
The new thing I had to figure out in this game is the job changing. You can change your characters job and they then they have a different outfit which is cool. This kinda reminds me of FFX-2 where you have to train your characters to make the skill level for that "job" higher.
Well I personally like this game, being the final fantasy fan I am. Good graphics! It was worth the purchase because it really keeps me occupied!

Fantastic Fantasy Game

I haven't played this game for a long time, until now. It plays just like I remember it. Nice controls, different classes and synergistic teamwork with the 4 characters with an updated storyline of the original NES/Famicom game.

Of course, it's not without its usual quirks, such as the lack of a complete battling options (which are later enacted in Game 5), the now defunct use of Nintendo Wi-Fi through Wii and regular DS games can hamper ones' progress with additional content, among other things.

But overall, it's nice to have fun with a game such as this.

I would love to tell you how good it is..

I would love to tell you that this is the best game for nintendo ds - and i may be right. If you can tolerate the constant feeling of being lost, this is the game for you. I DARE you to try to play this without internet hints or some guide. This game is really pretty. Really really pretty, but the player is constantly lost and wondering where to go next. The class system is a bit obtuse. If you want this game to experience the final fantasy genre, get this used. There are plenty of people who get really frusturated with the final boss and thus put this game down forever. Get this used for about $30 if you can. No need to get this new unless you are a final fantasy nerd - which is fine. Good game, but NOT great.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Wonderful game

A timeless classic, the new 3d graphics are very well done and compelling and the story and gamelan still deliver a great experience today. Well worth the money!

Final Fantasy III (Nintendo DS)

Right off the bat that good 'ole Final Fantasy music from decades ago plays upon entering the main menu screen. It was a good start! The battle scenes (when both starting and ending) also have the same familiar sound effects, as does going into towns/dungeons/tunnels. Sadly, though, you get the airship early in the game. But wait, it's only used for 2 missions, then it's gone again. A nice spin indeed, but set me up for high adventure, then taken away. Hopefully I'll get it back someday... All-in-all, this is a great continuation of a truly wonderful and masterfully-crafted title, and that goes without further review!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Final Fantasy III (Nintendo DS)

~~~Final Fantasy III~~~
~~~~~~~~~~DS~~~~~~~~~~~
5 out of 5

Overview:
This is a true Final Fantasy game. This game is a true re-make of the original that was released on the Famicom on April 27, 1990. It was not brought to the American shores until November 14, 2006 and was waited for by many Final Fantasy Fans. I have to say it was well worth it.

Basics:
This game is an RPG, role playing game, that involves a turn based system. This means that your characters and the enemies take turns attacking during a battle. As you fight you gain experience that allows you to gain levels, which make you stronger. In this game there are different job classes, just like in the original on the Famicom. There is one small difference here though. in the Famicom version you were not allowed to switch to a different job whenever you wanted to; there were only certain points where you were allowed to change your job class.
There are no save points in dungeons and no way to restore your magic points expect with an elixir, which is very rare and only found in treasure chests.

Tips:
~no spoilers~
This game takes a lot of strategy and the ability to conserve your magic points and your items. This ability is needed when going into dungeons. Since there are no save points, you have to go through the whole thing and then fight a boss. The best thing to do is go through the dungeon once, if at all possible, get all the treasure, leave and heal, then save and go into it a second time. It's a good idea to have a lot of potions or hi-potions at your disposal the second run though. It is also wise to not use any magic points in fights while running around the dungeon getting to the boss.

A true re-make of a classic game. Job well done Square Enix and Nintendo.
