A complex man who deserved more detail than this DVD showed
People either love or hate William the Conqueror (the man, not this DVD). Those of Saxon descent still revile him and those of Norman descent tend to overlook his flaws. He was a complex, hard man, married to a woman he adored and he had respect for King Harold, whom he defeated. This DVD misses the mark on all of that. This DVD is initially set on the eve of the Battle of Hastings, where they took the license of showing that William brought his son to the battle (he didn't). Then the action moves to a "flash-back" that is most of the movie that shows the conditions that William grew to manhood under and some of the incidents where others tried to depose him. Its not "Camelot-pretty" costumes, but fairly close to what I would consider correct. Seemed a bit choppy and ignored a lot of the aspects of his life. It either needed to be longer or done as a mini-series to truly show the forces that shaped him into the Conqueror he became and the woman who became his wife and the dynasty they started.Vollständige Rezension lesen
