A WORTHWHILE PROJECT THAT ENDED TOO SOON

Bear Family Records in conjunction with Connie Francis, has put together a minute collection of her English speaking recordings that spans the very start of her career beginning at the the age of 12 (radio or TV transcripts) to almost the end of 1959. The early transcripts are fascinating to listen too although the sound is not very good--then neither was the source material. She signed with MGM records in 1955 and her first release was a German penned tune "Freddy". The President of MGM liked it because he had a relative by that name. It only received airplay at the local merry go round. At the end of 1957, ready to give up and practice medicine with 9 dud 45s behind her her 10th clicked. "Who's Sorry Now" sent her on to international stardom. Included are many alternate takes during this period as well as unreleased material. This is a wonderful 5 CD collection in LP style box with a large book loaded with information. Unfortunately, after her second box set release in 1996, the project came to a halt. Let's hope they continue this worthwhile project as they have only chipped the surface ending in the spring of 1962. This is an investment and should be treated as such.
