Great tool to cut exhaust pipes in tight spaces safely.

Be patient and expect 10-15 minutes of moving the tool back and forth with a reasonable amount of pressure, and you'll get there. In my case I had to spend another 10 minutes to finish the job with a hacksaw (hence 4 stars).

Pros:
- The best price I could find for that tool.
- Very big item, with plenty of chain links to spare (my exhaust diameter was 60mm, not the smallest around).
- Perfect to cut exhausts in tight spaces, where power cutters wouldn't reach or would be too dangerous.
- A YouTube video showing how to use this tool had received a cynical comment saying "no exhausts were cut in this video", but I can confirm that it did cut through the wall of my exhaust pipe.
- I've got small hands for a man (gloves size 7 UK) but I was able to apply enough pressure on the handles.

Cons:
- My main issue was with the overall chain design itself. It's difficult to tell whether the chain is perfectly square with the length of the pipe to cut, and in my case it seemed that the cutting discs around one side of the pipe made a cut that was slightly out of line with the cut of the neighbouring discs - there was less than 1mm discrepancy, but enough discrepancy to prevent a clean cut throughout.
- When the side of the exhaust with the perfectly aligned discs gave way, I felt the discs plunge in the gap, which made a slight dent on the edge of the aperture. This also prevented me from carrying on using the tool. I wasn't applying too much pressure so the dent was minimal and didn't cause a leak when reconnecting the pipe later on. I finished the cutting job with a hacksaw, which was easy as the pipe was almost fully cut with the tool.
- There are chain tools that might be easier to use, with a self-locking option (and a bolt to tighten as the pressure is applied), but the chain design, with the risk of not being 'fully square' with the pipe to cut, is still present. They're also dearer, and in the case of a non-clean cut throughout, they could potentially cause more damage than a tool where the pressure is applied by hand.
- The packaging is not the greatest to store the tool for later use, but it is suitable if you open it carefully (I was able to store the tool in the original packaging myself, with a cut along 2 edges).
- As the instructions say, this tool is for exhausts in soft steel of standard thickness, not for stainless steel pipes, but that shouldn't be a problem generally.

It did the job

It did the job of cutting through the exhaust on my 330D but it took a lot of effort. If I was to do the job again I’d probably use a grinder instead. This tool did creat a nice clean consistent cut though so I’m more than happy Vollständige Rezension lesen
