Not Hair Metal

I have recently been trying to improve my glam/hair metal collection, and bought this album because 1) I had heard the song "Love is on the Way" on the radio and liked it, and 2) a number of reviewers (both here on Ebay and elsewhere) claimed that this band fit the "glam" genre. And they couldn't be more wrong. In terms of style, the singer has a voice similar to the singer for the "Crash Test Dummies", although the bands style overall is much edgier. And the singer does not sound like he's been sucking helium all day before the recording session. The band itself has an early "Pearl Jam" kind of sound going on, although they explore drop-D tuning as well as alternative scales/modes more than contemporaries. While it's possible that the bands first, self-titled album (produced by Michael Wagener of all people) has more "hair"-style elements, this album definitely does not.

And so, I've waited a while to actually review this album, because I didn't want to be biased by my initial shock at the fact that this album wasn't hair metal at all. That said, the album is just "OK". The tune "Love is On the Way" I think was a radio-friendly hit of the bands off this album, but anything else would have only been fit for modern rock/alternative radio formats. Unfortunately, unlike other bands such as Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains which found commercial success, none of the rest of the songs off of "The Lizard" have that same radio-friendly sound, and so, despite quality production and very excellent playing, I can only give this album an "Average" rating, due to its poor demonstration of song-writing.

Sweet with a punch.

I dont believe Saigon Kick ever recieved the recognitioned it deserved. And this album fits them well that way. Saigon kick and this album have many easy listenning song that can ring in your head for months. Electric guitars arranged with a thick sound have always been another characteristics of this band. Here we have many melodic songs like "God of the 42nd street", "Misses Jones", "All I want is you", "Feels the same way", the classic power ballad "Love is on the way" and manyother of my pewrsonal liking like "The peppermint tribe" and "My dog". So I will define this album as melodic with an energy fachade.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Playable CD

The CD has more scuff marks on the "read" side than the description suggests. The disc has played fine in two different car stereos. I'm good with the purchase.

Still as good as I remember it

I had this album when it came out in the early 90's, but lost it somewhere along the way. Wasn't sure if it would be as good as I remembered it, but it is and then some. All killer, no filler. 16 songs too, not a short album by any stretch. These guys got lost in the glam metal 80's-early 90's glut of hair bands, but they actually have a unique sound for the time. Reminds me of The Beatles if they were a metal band. Highly recommended album, A+.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

The Lizard- Saigon Kick CD

I do love this cd! It's just like I remember 16 years ago! This is typical 90's hair metal! And don't forget to add the one or two love ballots on it! This cd is perfect for any one wanting to revisit their youth!Vollständige Rezension lesen...
