One of the best men's films you have probably not seen.
Another one of those men's movies that you probably haven't seen, but should. Terrance Stamp (Oscar nom. for Billy Budd) is menacing as the ex-con and thief who has set out to seek justice for the death of his daughter. It is a daughter he barely knew due to his incarcerations, and he probably romanticizes the relationship they had, but it is his daughter, nonetheless, and damn anyone who would dare to harm her.
He is not a talker. he just lets you do your thing and then he does his - effectively. He just keeps coming at you until the job is done.
He is our insane c*ckney thug of choice.
Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Erin Brockovich, Sex, Lies, and Videotape) does a very good job of keeping the action tense and moving while telling a very non linear story.
Luis Guzmán (Traffic, Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love) gives a good performance as the friend who helps, and Peter Fonda (Ulee's Gold, Easy Rider) makes a perfectly sleazy target with one hot babe (Amelia Heinle), who always seems to be taking a bath.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
A thinking-person's movie.
Terence Stamp is good in anything he does. This movie concerns a father avenging the death of his somewhat-estranged daughter, he does not believe the story he was told claiming it was an asleep-at-the-wheel accident. Some of the events are portrayed in retrospect as Wilson pieces together clues that lead him to his daughter's killer. There is more to the storyline than that--it is about perceptions, about how a certain situation turns out not to be what we would have assumed it to be. The action is more hand-to-hand combat as opposed to things blowing up; it is more about thought and the character development reflects this. Good performances from Peter Fonda and Leslie Ann Warren are worth mentioning. Some of the footage of Terence Stamp in his younger years look like they may have been 'borrowed' from past movies, scenes that might not have made the final cut.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Nice movie. Great Style.
The main thing that one notices while watching the Limey is how unique the editing is. The film is constructed in a non-linear fashion and has very unique pacing but is not necessarily confusing. a very stylized and great thriller from Soderbergh.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
