Eldest

ELDEST BY CHRISTOPHER PAOLINI: I read Eragon last fall and while it was a decent fantasy novel (the first part of a trilogy), which Paolini had first written and self published when he was fifteen, I was ultimately disappointed with is lack of originality and obvious "borrowing" from Lord of the Rings, the Wheel of Time series, and no doubt other fantasy epics. I am pleased to say, having read an advanced reader's copy of Eldest that I'm now looking forward to the conclusion of the series. Paolini has grown up in many ways and this book is a lot more devleoped in both character and plot, plus he's developing his own ideas and making his own choices instead of using other works. He does make some references, as it is impossible to write fantasy and not do this, one being Beowulf, but it is more of an homage or a tipping of the cap to this or that work. Also he'll be coming to a high school in Santa Rosa on September 16th, basically due to my idea for a competition that readers can enter, and the prize is four of them will get to read their idea of what they would do and where they would live in Alagaesia. So I'm looking forward to meeting with him and discussing his influences and ideas, as they are quite similar to mine. We both seem to search for origins of peoples and civlizations, whether they are historical or invented; pretty interesting stuff.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Not a great follow up to Eragon, but WORTH reading def!

I bought this book the next day after finishing Eragon. I love the whole dragon fantasy story idea of young Eragon. I'm in my 20's and it was a little more childish than I would have liked, but all and all a book worth reading, especially if you're already read Eragon. If I was a teenage, I would probably give this book 5 stars.

If you are older like myself, the book definately proves that it was written by a teenage. It's somewhat slow (as in not much happens, not slow as in boring) for the first 500 pages (out of 700), but interesting enough to keep you turning more and more pages. I couldn't wait to find out about the dragon on the front cover. Its also a little predictable, but also in a well told story as if this was a filler book for the last chapter (book 3).

Bottomline: I'll probably be in my 30's when the 3rd book comes and I CAN'T WAIT! And if you haven't read harry potter and liked the first eragon, I'd highly recommend those as well as this book, Eldest...

BOY BOOK!

If you are a 6th-8th grade boy this is a fantastic pick! This is the classic orphan boy storyline that reads exactly like Star Wars: boy raised by uncle finds out his father is the empire of doom. It has a cool dragon and the real learning curve is a battle of ?real? brothers and the bonding of ?adopted? brothers but most teens miss that part.

As an adult who reads a lot of teen literature I found this a good read and I was genuinely interested in the character development of ALL the brothers and the dragon. It did not keep me up all night riveted, but it did make great ?forced? bedtime reading for teenage boys who hate to read. It is a story that is best served by being read out loud by a good reader that can pronounce weird words in a flash.

This is part two and unfortunately it will leave you hanging because the third book is not out yet. So if you are an adult who waited until all the Harry Potter books are written before you start the series, then be warned we have no inside news on when book three is coming out.

Awesome Eldest

I absolutely love the Inheritance Trilogy (of course it's really only a duo right now). If you like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, then you'll really love this epic fantasy for young adults. It doesn't get to convoluted like the Wheel of Time series or Lord of the Rings and maintains a manner of writing as simple as Harry Potter. That's not to say that some parts are a little confusing (as is most fantasy fiction), but it is an interesting look at how different characters step into their roles as leaders facing the different fates set before them. I highly recommend this book(s) for anyone young and old.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

I love these books! Have not read Eragon since middle-high school and I forgot how good these books are! Renewed my love of reading.

Great book. Came in very good condition. Could definitely tell it wasn’t new and had been sitting on a shelf for a while but for the price you can’t beat it!

Favorite chapter and more

My favorite chapter has to be about the ants. A seemingly unimportant being in our universe but when you study this unimportant being, we can find some lessons in which we too can live by.

The book itself is wonderful and a great followup to the first book: Eragon. It is filled with many surprises that I wish not to reveal here. I will reveal one thing that won't be surprising to readers of the first book, WARNING SPOILER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE FIRST BOOK ERAGON, 2 words: the twins.

I can't wait until the next book. It should be very eventful. There are so many questions I have like..........I won't ruin this book for those who haven't read it but recommend this book greatly.

The first book, by the way, was written by the author when he was 16 years old. The book can be categorized as fantasy. It is a childrens book so there isn't any sexual acts in it. There be some slightly bad language but no profanity that I remember. It is a fantasy book which means it contains magical acts, both good and bad. Eragon is on the good side. I fell in love with Eragon(the book) with the first reading. I'm a avid Harry Potter fan and there was a forum on "mugglenet" forum about other books you like and I saw Eragon pop up many times so I decided to check it out and the rest as they say is history.

Hooray for Christopher Paolini!

this just goes to show you that you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it and age is no respecter of persons!@ there were so many people so jealous of hime! but he gave alot of young people some sorely needed hope for their own futures. the books are quite good, comparable any high quality fantasy i've read, and i've read alot over the yrs. i am looking forward to this young author's work, and it will be interesting to see how he develops in the future. highly recommended for all! What is it about DRAGONS that fascinate us all so much? and the 'bond' between human and dragon, portrayed strongly in all dragon lore...what is it that pulls our heartstrings so? ancient memory? ancient longing? ancient loss? ancient unfullfilled desire? what?Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Eldest Book 2, the continuation of a good Fantasy story & great cha

Eldest is Book 2 in the Inheritance Cycle by the young writer Christopher Paolini. I don't usually read many books in Fantasy but I have read some recommended by my nieces and have enjoyed them and have not been disappointed in either Eragon or Eldest.
Eldest is a story about humans, dwarves, elves and dragons and magic. The story is about a conflict between them and another evil character. There is a huge amount of imagination, and good development of the characters.

Eldest

I recently picked up the book eldest and i have to say that i did like it. Let me tell you why. Well, to start off with, I like fantasy novels. A lot. I got Eragon for a christmas present last year and I read it within a day. I couldnt wait to get the next one. But then it DID come out, and I read it within a day again. Some of the book was surprising, but only the end really captured me like Eragon did. I thought it was ok, only a shadow of what it could have been. All the charecters, except I think for Eragon himself, were slightly flat. I think I would have enjoyed it more if i didnt rip right through it. I have, however, reread it, and that is what made me decide to give it a 4 out of five. I would have givin it a 2 out of 5, because as I speed read it, I missed alot of the few subtle hints at what was REALLY going on, instead of a edge of your seat thriller the whole way through. This was How I felt about EldestVollständige Rezension lesen...
