Charming and Sweet Entertainment
I was aware of The Courtship of Eddie's Father but had not seen it prior to purchasing it on eBay, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
First, the theme song is infectious. The tune has a great rhythm to it, highlighted by fun to sing lyrics like "He's a one boy cuddly-toy, my up, my down, my pride and joy". Fair warning: if you don't skip through it, it will be your own personal ear worm (though a nice one) for some time to come.
In the spirit of shows in that time, the characters are likeable. The world created by the actors and writers and production is a warm, safe happy place you'd be glad to visit and revisit. The little vignettes of Eddie and his father that bookend the show, with Eddie asking life questions and his father giving deft and wise response, are sweet and charming. They are shown in various scenarios (driving a fancy in the country, going to the beach, at the zoo, hiking etc.) and it looks like Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz had a genuine father-son type chemistry.
It was a show of its time though, so there were a few things that would never fly today, like inappropriate comments in a workplace, mostly by Tom's best friend/employee Norman. I expected this would extend to how the housekeeper/de facto nanny Mrs. Livingston was treated - in a modern TV show, after all, it would be all about the "romantic tension" between her and the man of the house. Refreshingly, though the idea was brought up in various ways, it was always clear that their relationship was employer/employee and their connection was about caring for Eddie, NOT romance.
This was before the era of Very Special Episodes, so nothing is ever too dark or heavy. The deepest episode might be when Tom is driven to consider who would take care of his son if he, like Eddie's mom, passed away. Episodes have goofy situations, but don't often veer too far into ludicrous slapstick territory. Expensive, but worth it
I really enjoy the DVD set. Watching the Courtship of Eddie's Father takes me back to my childhood days. It is a good show for families to watch together. It was a very well made TV show and it's great to watch, all these years later.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Bill Bixby at his best.
I have not seen this show since childhood. It was fun to watch and compare to my long ago childhood memory. I did not remember the housekeeper, I did remember what a great actor Bill Bixby was. I still have more episodes to watch and more catching up to do. Bill Bixby was a
