The Bletchley Circle: Season 1 (DVD, 2012)

Women with minds and courage take on a serial killer

British thrillers tend to be more low-key than their American counterparts, and this is a good exaample. It's about a group of women who had worked together in WWII as code breakers. They band together, in spite of resistence from those aroiund them and even the police, to solve a series of grisly murders in London. It may seem a bit slow in the first half, but it gets downright thrilling by the end. The acting and production - with people and places looking a bit drab in those lean years after WWII in England - are first rate.
If you have the patience and are willing NOT to bring expectations from our do-it-fast and noisey contemporary tastes, this is an outstanding film.

Great. And don't miss best season 2, too!

Though I don't like crime, I'm an Anglophile of Britain's historic culture while it was Great, up to post-WWII globalist Socialism and demographic replacement. And don't miss this series' best season two, also, on women's contributions making way for more from the female half of the Western world's population. Bonus Features especially valuable, including still living and families of these belatedly lauded heroes, and real locations.

Similar genre as good and sometimes even better: long-running "Foyle's War" with Michael Kitchen ("Out of Africa") also based on real events in Britain during and after WWII; and key for our now, the also award-winning "Imitation Game" with Keira Knightley and Benedict Cumberbatch. Was excellent to watch on TV . Would have been nice to add to collection. Will have to wait for another to come available

Could not get DVD to play on either of my two machines. Problem with DVD disc as my other discs play fine.

Nice Surprise

Cast was unfamiliar to me and quite honestly I didn't expect it to be as smartly done and engaging as it turned out to be. Wonderful entertainment.
