Unsurpassed Children's Film!

One of my all-time favorite children's movies and I don't even have grandchildren. I watch it about once a year just for my own entertainment. It took three years to film and it's absolutely delightful. There are no human characters, just a great animal cast. Another good title for this movie Milo and Otis

I am happy to have bought this movie as I have never watched it before. It is also entertaining. They get lost then find each other, then it ends well.

One of my childhood favorites.

I loved this simple, charming movie when I was young, and my daughter loves it today.

Adventures of Milo and Otis (1999, DVD)

Thanks for looking at my review of the Adventures of Milo and Otis.
This movie held the attention of children as young as two years old and that of children who are reaching adolescence. It mesmerized each individual child, and they asked to see it over and over again!
As an educator, I view the value of this movie as a companion tool to advance the message that although life throws things in one's path, one can accomplish quite a bit if one speaks aloud about what is the problem (defining the issue) and asks for both feedback and help in obtaining resolution of the problem. It is clear that by Milo and Otis working together as a team they overcome many obstacles in reaching their common goal. They must rely upon each other to bring them to their happy ending. The movie informs children that as members of society they are will successfully reach individual and common goals by working with others to solve problems and issues which come up unexpectedly in life. Children comprehend that they have the ability to think clearly when working with others, that not all ideas are feasible (some ideas just don't work to their advantage, but are worth exploring), and that their accomplishment of tasks completion is not based solely upon one individual's desires, but rather, because of the teamwork inherent in the structure of meeting challenges to reach the desired outcome.
As a mother, my perspective allowed me to view children entertained throughout the length of the movie, then stimulated to talk about what they'd seen, and discuss how they could follow Milo's and Otis' example in their own homes (as well as outside their homes). The real-life images brought to the screen by this movie mirrored genuine life as it is today: children grasped that this was not "make-believe" or "cartoon-like" and it provided them a working model of how to approach others and how not to approach others. This is something which must be grasped so that children learn to function in society and not apart from it, especially the function of working together to "get what needs to be done, done."
It's a great movie, on a scale of one-to-ten (ten being the highest), I rate this a ten and endorse it. As a final recommendation, sit with your children and watch the movie with them: you will completely enjoy yourself.

Milo and Otis - friends forever!

Great value! My daughter loves this warm tale of friendship and adventure between a dog and a cat who live on a farm of talking animals. Very engaging story.

Loved it As a Kid, Love it as an Adult!

I've loved this movie since I was little. I can remember watching it with my brother and sister over and over again. Now that I have my own child, I've been buying all the movies I loved as a kid, so we can watch them together. So far, this one has been the one we can watch together the most happily! I prefer it because sometimes I get a little tired of the craziness of cartoons.

It's a sweet story of a dog and a cat who form an unlikely friendship. Throughout the movie these two opposites attract. Milo is spunky and mischievous, Otis is brave and loyal, and at times a bit too serious. Otis often has to try and keep Milo in check and out of trouble, but at the same time seems to enjoy it. They make a really fun pair. One day, while playing hide and seek, Milo gets swept away by the river in a wooden box he felt was a great hiding place. Otis, being the loyal friend that he is, tries to save Milo before he gets too far, but after failing, he goes on a harrowing adventure to find him and bring him home. Otis even takes on a bear ten times his size to save Milo! Both animals go through perils, from repeated bear attacks, screech owls, hunger, even attacking sea gulls.

Finally, they are reunited after Otis saves Milo from a deep pit he fell into, but they are miles away from home. After this, Milo and Otis and again separated when Milo falls in love with a beautiful white cat. Feeling left out, Otis makes his way back to their farm alone. He then meets his own mate, a pug named Sondra. Both Milo and Otis have a litter during the winter, and again they reunite when Otis ventures out to get food for his hungry family. This time Milo comes to Otis' rescue by providing him with food for his puppies. Milo and Otis, realizing how much they've missed each other, make a pact that when Spring comes they will take their families and together travel to their farm home. And they do. It's a wonderfully happy ending, because seeing Milo and Otis' children, you know this story goes on and on. It's the kind of ending a lot of the movies I watch with my son seem to lack.

This movie is wholesome, funny, exciting, and at times sort of sad. It's got everything and I love it. Definitely a great family film that I'll remember for the rest of my life, and sharing it with my son, I'm sure he will too. I recommend it highly! :)

One warning: There are some scenes that are rather graphic if you're an animal lover. Such as the fight between Otis and the bear, which is actually sort of terrible to watch. And when Milo is dropped into the ocean from what looks like 40 feet. So, be aware that perhaps the ASPCA was busy during the filming of this movie. . . .Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Fantastic movie! Buy one for yourself. Especially if you have kids.

I remember watching this movie when I was young and I found that I missed it and needed to watch it again. This movie is great for all family members! Especially kids. The curious kitten, Milo, and his best friend, Otis, the courageous dog who always pulls Milo out of danger. It is guaranteed to make you smile! I can not wait to bring it to school to show my students.
The only thing that I am a bit bothered by is that there is a weird sound that occurs approximately every 20 seconds all throughout the movie. Just from this copy perhaps? I know it was not found in the movie I used to own as a kid.
Despite, I would still rate this movie at about a 9 out of 10. It's just that enjoyable, lovable, cute, entertaining, fun!Vollständige Rezension lesen...
