Digital tuning has advantages
The radio has many features and takes a bit of time to learn them all.
Sound and sensitivity good compared to ones previously owned.
Sleep switch setting could be more convenient to use. Only 3 seconds allowed to select time interval and has to be reset every time you use it.
Station scan puts available stations into memory and allows easy switch from station to station, instead of going through the whole frequency band looking for the next station.

Nice radio, but...
I bought this radio after we had gone through a snow storm that knocked out our power for a few days. Without tv or wi-fi, we had no access to news or weather updates
The reception is great, the size works nicely, and the batteries last a long time. The manual is a little challenging to understand. The only reason that I didn't give it five stars is because I have not yet tried all the features.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Very Poor LW reception
The radio Tecsun PL380 has a minus point. Reception in Long Wave (LW) band is very very poor. While my cheapest World Band radio Tesco Model RAD-108 costing just £8.00 in London, UK receives 3 LW stations clearly. Where as Tecsun PL380 receive only one LW station (198 KHz - BBC) that too with lot of hissing noice.Vollständige Rezension lesen

A great buy.
Bought this here because of the very good price, the photos looked good, and this radio gets good reviews.
I received mine today, only the third day after I ordered it, and I am so surprised! This radio looks like brand new. Wire antenna and the earphones are still in plastic bags, original box, instructions and warranty card are all there. I saw no signs of use.
I inserted three AA NiMh rechargeable batteries, and turned it on. Wow! Good FM daytime reception. I was able to detect a classical station about 130 miles away, not detectable on my C Crane Skywave. Evening AM reception was just as good, pulling in a clear channel station between a few other stations from 250 miles away well. Of course this is not as good as the Kaito KA1103, but impressive none the less. The display is very nice, all the controls make sense, and work well. The manual is easy to understand, and offers a few good tips. This radio sounds really nice for it’s size; better than some other small pocket radios I have. It’s just a tad bigger that any pocket radio, but it sounds better, and reception is better. This may be the ideal travel radio.
I had previously purchased the Tecsun PL-360 (from another seller) based on similarly good reviews. It was beautiful, easy to understand and use (the user interface is the same on the PL-380), and had good reception; but the shape of the thing made it unwieldy to really use. The PL-360 is so tall and slender, and the antenna doesn’t bend. It’s just too long to put down. But the PL-380 fits in the sweet spot that the PL-360 missed. Vollständige Rezension lesen

Lot of Features
So far, it seems like an excellent product. I checked easy to use, which it is, but it has so many features that it will take time to learn if they're all easy to use...

The Tecsun PL-380
Tecsun has put out a really good series of quality Shortwave radios and the PL-380 is one of their better ones. You can buy a more expensive model than this but the excellent quality of workmanship and electronics is part of their whole line of radios. I love my 380 and have listened to station all over the globe. Radio Australia is excellent listening early in the morning! Great programming! I won't go into the technical side of the radio. There are a lot of You Tubes out there about this and the other radios of the Tecsun line. Lets just say you won't be disappointed with the PL-380.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Compact Radio - Read the Manual/Directions
This is a great compact radio - I purchased the English version - four units. I appreciate that the unit can be recharged using a USB Cable and the larger mini-USB plug - not the super small ones that come with most telephones. This English version comes with the proper USB cable. The unit also has built in circuitry that will not let you overcharge the three AA batteries (not included) - you will have to set the unit to charge the batteries - make sure you don't try to charge non-rechargeable batteries - such as Alkaline batteries - see page 21 in the small manual. You can recharge your radio using your computer or even one of your telephone or car charger USB adapters. In an emergency situation, if you have a solar USB charger, you can also use it to charge the radio.
The radio's temperature display default is Celsius and can be changed to Fahrenheit - see page 18 in the small manual. You can download the manual in a larger print version - check out Google and search for tecsun pl-380 manual pdf
The unit is small enough to fit in your pocket - display is easy to read. The black unit with white writing is easier to read than the grey model - I did not purchase the silver unit - most of them have a painted cover which easily scratches off.

Great radio
This is a great radio. i do not do a lot of shortwave listening so I can't really rate it on that, but I do a lot of FM listening at work. The FM receiver is sensitive and better than the 5 other radios I bought trying to get good reception at work.
The AM reception is pretty good also, especially outdoors.
The speaker gives decent sound. and it sounds especially good with the included headphones.

Very good for the money
Reception: Very good except SW which is no as sensitive as Sony's.
Sound Quality : Not bad for the speaker size.
Ease of Use : It takes some time to learn the major functions by heart.

Powerful Tuner...
I have wanted one of these since a coworker brought one to work one day several years ago. I was not disappointed...The recharging feature is a plus. All U need is rechargeable AA batteries, and a USB port to plug it in to. The onboard "smart" charge feature does the rest. The radio uses my old cell phone USB cord.
The ETM feature makes this radio easy to use. The radio come with a small CD disc with a PDF instruction file. I kept this in my PC for a week or two to really learn about the radio.
I live in an area that isn't known for good radio reception. Several local stations, and you have to start DXing to get more. the PL380 is a GREAT DXer...At night long distance stations come in very good. I have several large DX radios, and this one is as strong as them. The digital tuner locks in and precisely holds station tuning.
If you are waiting to purchase one of these, don't hesitate any longer. This a great tuner with a small size. This radio is pretty heavy for its size too. The controls are mostly digital, and work well. The screen lights up brightly for night use. Some of the onscreen print is small, and that is my only complaint.
