Supreme Commander

This is indeed the spiritual descendant of total annihilation. There is a grand scale not found in any other real time strategy game I have played.

First the bad -I think the learning curve is a bit too steep and units abilities could have been explained much more clearly in the in-game tool tips (which is my main problem with the game). For example there is an air craft carrier you can load planes onto. Once they were on though they wouldn't automatically engage nearby units... so it was more of an aircraft transport for long distances since they use fuel. Or is there a command to make the aircraft engage? It doesn't tell you these things, you just have to find out for yourself or read an online strategy guide perhaps. Another example is the tech tree is indecipherable. For example your commander can go through 3 stages of upgrades (it says in the tool-tip, but only after I have upgraded my construction units to the 3rd stage). Well I have upgraded every construction unit to stage 3 and my commanders 2nd tier still doesn't get unlocked. The instruction manual provided no clue as to how to do anything or what units actually did. Another example is transport ships have a ferry option. I figured out that with the ferry command you can click on the spot you want to bring loaded troops to and when the drop off is complete it will return to the pickup point. The ferry point remains, however when you fully load it up again you have to re-que the ferry option which I find strange. The A.I. in campaign and skirmishes, as in other real time strategy games, is predictable, sending identical squadrons of units to die by your defenses (with a handfull notable exceptions that I greatly enjoyed).

That being said... the interface is very robust albeit lacking information on units. There are countless ways to implement different kinds of strategy. The environments are great, and being able to successfully use mixed tactics of land/sea/ and air is something that nearly every strategy game out there is lacking, except for this one. The campaigns are long, and give you a good taste for the game and units (at least judging from the Aeon campaign I played, which is 1 of 3 campaigns). It's easy to spend a few hours on any given map.

I haven't played online yet, that's not really my thing.

Great RTS Game

Pros-Gigantic game with hundreds of units on screen, you can zoom out to view the entire battlefield and control the battle still zoomed out to the max, the "press shift and queue up orders to Timbuktu system" is awesome, over two-hundred land, sea and air units, should be a great modded game, great graphics zoomed in, good overall story and online play is a big strong point.

Cons-There's not a big difference in the personality and flavor of the units of the 3 factions, (a cookie cutter feel) the battles can be very long and the high system requirements. (so make sure you can run this game)

Reply value:
Offline missions-You'll play the missions once or twice
Offline skirmish-High
Online-Very High

(If you want to know anything more about this game or the things I mentioned in this review, go to another website that has supreme commander on it.)

PC GAME RTS: Supreme Commander Review

Supreme Commander is the latest real time strategy game designed in the spirit of its predecessor, Total Annihilation. Supreme Commander delivers the 3d battlefield beautifully with all the controls and macro tools provided in the original Total Annihilation, plus more.

Insane unit counts, huge maps, and the ability to use the latest in gaming PC hardware, Supreme Commander is not for the faint of heart gamer with half the hardware. Hours of game play per level during the campaign and the visuals are breath taking. Your PC from five years ago will MELT. Get something dual core with a good 2gigs of ram and a good 512mb graphics card and you can enjoy this game as it was meant to be enjoyed.

From long range artillery to massive nuclear strikes, and from single squads of super advanced units to massive armies of mixed types, there is always more than one way to wipe out the opponent.

PROS – Intense battles and an all around good game experience.
CONS – Requires some pretty heavy hardware to run at max settings.

Fun, Challenging, and Addictive. RTS at it's best!

My friend introduced me to this game. He was a big fan of Total Annihilation back in the day, and of course he jumped on this as soon as it was released. I'm more of a casual RTS game player, I like my Command and Conquer and Age of Empires, but never really got into the hardcore online multiplayer gameplay. He showed me this game and I was interested. Now that I own the game and play it, this could be my new favorite RTS game. This plus the expansion are very easy to learn, and the way the game is played is just addictive! I would recommend this game to anybody wanting to play a new age RTS game and have lots of fun learning how to play competitively!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Supreme Commander

The gaming clan I play with is really into this game right now. I myself dont like it much and will probably be reselling it very soon. The game moves to slow for me. I currently play Battlefield 2142. Battlefield moves at a much faster pace. The game also demands alot of your PC. If you are not running a big graphics card and a fast CPU the game lags bad. Online plaay is the same way you need a pretty powerful PC to run this game to it full potential. I am running a 3.0 Pentium D with a BFG 7600 GT OC 256mb, 1gig of memory and cable modem. With this set up I have to run in low rez or it lags real bad. Hope this helps someone out there.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

What a game!!

If you have ever played an RTS, you HAVE to get your hands on this! The graphical interface is wonderful, aside from a few minor design flaws. I first tested the game by downloading the demo from CNET.com. I highly suggest this if you are leery of purchasing a game that you may not enjoy. In my case, within a week, I purchased this game for a whopping $4.00 US currency. BEST DEAL I've ever paid. This is only the second time playing the game, having installed the full version and it has not yet failed to entertain me. I have also taken full advantage of the dual-monitor capability this game employs, using the right screen for the full-radar view of the map, and the left screen for close tasking. Again, I play RTS to the exclusion of other games, and this is by far one of the best games. One of the best features of the game is the ultimate level of destruction seen when destroying enemy units. In other games, firepower is minimized for the sake of moving on to the next unit, but this game specializes in high-number, massive-scale battles moving at a fast pace.

GET THIS GAME!!

GREAT GAME! Fun and exiting! lots of action!

I liked this game a lot, has a very hard core basics. Put on the surround sounds, and up all the way! this makes you go into the game. well it took me into it for the last 5 hours, and could not stop playing, until it got too late. nice RPG top view action game. Not the most expensive one, but for what you play it is worth it all. I did dual monitor, and it is one thing to try! best graphics and everything. great game for young and old. Build a base, and your set face challenges to win over all the bases, and take over the world! play thing on a trip, at home, where ever, it is entertaining! loved it for myself, I am sure you will like it. make sure you look at the PC recommendations, because it has high needs. I used dual monitor with 2 GB of ram, and no skipping, and no lag! cleanly played game, no installing problems, just perfect! one great buy!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Best strategy game of the year so far for me.

This is an amazing strategy game ! what sets it apart from competition is the amazing interface, with great zoom capabilities and inteligent queue. It's a game where your macro strategies are more important than micromanagement of single units. If you like online gaming this is what you should buy. It has amazing support, always being patched and updated for better balance and a huge online comunity. On the other hand the single player experience is not so great, with kinda boring campaign and really bad A.I.

If you love online gaming than this is definitely the best thing out there, if you prefer to play single and campaing than you maybe should focus somewhere else.

i do recommend tha game though, its excellent.

Large-scale strategy, challenging

Pros: Supreme Commander is a groundbreaking game that will be played for years to come. The scale of the strategy goes beyond managing a handful of units and tactics, which is a first for the real-time strategy genre. The single-player campaign is lengthy and is a good introduction to the multiplayer component of the game.

Cons: High system requirements, so definitely check to make sure you can run this. Even the best cards out can only do around 20fps on the highest settings, and that's with dual core.

not such a great RTS

Comparing w/ the RTS (Real-Time Strategy) games i've play'd bfore, Supreme Commandr is just average. The pre-campaign intro animations & the in-game zooming out function r the only stuff i enjoyed 'bout this game. the storyline sounds ordinary to me and the graphic designs aren't that cool (for my taste). i collect really nice strategy games, but im not gona keep this one. SC may ok w/ newbies in RTS gamin, but i don't recommend this for those who've expriencd play'n really good RTS games.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
