Fun and Brutal Game

Great game! While the graphics can't compare with modern triple A titles, for it's time they were amazing. The controls are slipperier than any other Mario Kart I played, which can drive me insane at times, especially on the Donut Plains and Vanilla Lake levels, but overall it feels great to play. The game is also much harder than all the future titles as you have 3 lives in one round of Grand Prix, and if you don't place in the top 4 at the end of a race, you lose a life and have to retry that course again. Super clean games!

These games are clean guys! Like no dirt on them. The graphic on the cartridge is almost like new. Super Mario world started right up when I popped the cartridge in. Haven’t tried to play Mario kart yet.

Best Mario Kart ever

Absolute blast from the past with the original game of the franchise! In my opinion, the best multiplayer when you use the multi tap! Great fun!

Best multi player game!

Super Mario Kart is a video game for the Super Nintendo System (or SNES) which was released in 1991. The game itself was released in the year 1992. It was a very popular game in North America and ended up being a "Player's Choice Million Seller Title". As well, it often ranks in the top 100 games, based on gamer's choice.

The game Super Mario Kart is a car (or kart) racing game. In the game, you can play by yourself (against the computer) or with a friend...also trying to beat the computer's characters.

You can race on one of 3 courses: Mushroom - Easy
Flower - Intermediate
Star - Difficult

and there are 5 different tracks for each course. There are also 3 different speeds (or difficulty levels) to play at...50cc (easy), 100cc (intermediate) and 150cc (difficult). If you are able to place in the top 3 on the three 150cc courses, then you are awarded access to a SPECIAL track (the most difficult).

You have 8 different characters to choose from, and all characters are familiar, if you have played Nintendo's signature "Mario" games before. Each character has a counterpart who is similar in skill. Sometimes it is a good idea if you are playing a 2-player game, to play the counterpart character to the racer your opponent has chosen (so you will both be evenly matched)

The players are:
Mario (all around average; very good; medium weight)
Luigi (all around average; very good; medium weight)
Princess (relatively fast; light weight)
Yoshi (relatively fast; light weight)
Toad (fast accelleration; low top-speed; super light weight)
Koopa (fast accelleration; low top-speed; super light weight)
Bowser (slow accelleration; fastest top speed; heavy weight)
Donkey Kong Jr. (slow accelleration; fastest top speed; heavy weight)

Aside from normal course racing, you can also play against your own fastest speed record (try to beat your own top speed) in the TIME TRIAL. No other players are on the course with you.
Or you can play another player to try to get the top course record in the MATCH RACE.
Or, you can play another player one-on-one in a fight to the finish with the BATTLE MODE. In Battle Mode, the opponents do not actually race each other. Instead, each player has 3 balloons surrounding their kart and the first person to lose their 3 balloons loses. (To play it is a lot more fun than to describe it). You have 4 different battle locations to choose from.

All in all, the game is easy to play, and fun for all ages.

Great game from childhood

My brother lent this game out like 25 years ago. I finally have it back. Works great on my SNES. Fun stuff. My kids are now enjoying it

Great nostalgia, but it has not aged particularly well

It is nice to look back and see the roots of such a game-changer. Many sequels spawned and many Mario Kart kart ripoffs populated the game stores. But going through this title again, does it stand the tests of time?

Personally, I don't think so. While Double Dash may be my favorite entry, Mario Kart 64 was the one that modernized its control and established the franchise big time. Of course, the SNES could only pull off so much due to hardware capabilities. But here are some critiques of mine:

I can admire the game for going for a true go-karting experience, from the brevity of the courses and the controls. The stages are short and you race each one 5 laps each. But my first critique is the level designs. There are some very interesting ones (including Rainbow Road), but a lot of them repeat the same look and it feels lazy in that aspect.

Another issue I had was the controls. The drifting isn't too strong in this title, and turning too hard can screw you over. Much like real go-kart racing you need to ease off the brakes to cut into your turns. However, due to technical limitations, it can be difficult to telegraph your speed and the degree of your turn.

And finally, the physics. The physics can make or break a race. From how much you're turning, you can peel out off the track and drag slowly to get back on track. Running into green pipes and other objects (it'll happen a lot) will make you come to a complete stop. Getting knocked aside by another driver can also shoot you dangerously to the side, having to claw your way back onto the track. And it doesn't help when there is only one opportunity per lap to grab an item to redeem yourself.

While I may be harping on this title, I can appreciate it for inventing the true party kart racer. It is fun to play around with friends and good to get that nostalgic feel, but this particular SNES game has shown its age.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

awesome game with nostolgia

Its a awesome 5 star product because its super Mario kart for the snes. The bad part is if you bump your opponents outside the race course it not only may delay their race time but yours as well.

VERY FUN RACING GAME!

THIS IS AN AWESOME RACING GAME. I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS ABOUT 12 YRS OLD I HAD LOTS OF FUN PLAYING AGAINST MY FRIENDS. MANY DIFFERENT NINTENDO COURSES, EASY PLAY, AND THE ABILITY TO USE WEAPONS MAKE IT VERY FUN. I EVEN FIND MYSELF ENJOYING THIS GAME MORE THAN I DO THE NEWER TITLES. I SUPPOSE I LIKE THE SIMPLICITY OF IT, AND THE GAMEPLAY STANDS THE TEST OF TIME!
