I had great reservations about buying this game online, but it was in perfect condition and it's all I ever wanted to introduce my grandsons to for great 3d fun with Mario. It was a better price than gamestop could offer also. We love Mario in any setting. Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64)

Super Mario 64 was not only one of the two games released at the launch of the N64, but it also was the game that changed many minds about 3-Dimensional gaming. Much criticism faced the idea of bringing a Mario game to 3D, but it was pulled off perfectly. In this game, Mario has to fight his way through 15 giant courses in order to collect Power Stars to rescue Princess Peach. There are 120 different Power Stars in this game, and Mario is required to complete a puzzle or some sort of task to get each Power Star. When you have enough Power Stars, you can fight Bowser in a beautifully rendered 64 bit world. This game has become quite a legend, and truly is a "Must Have" title for any Nintendo 64 collection. Un-Biased review of Super Mario 64

Living up to the idea that Super Mario 64 is "one of the best games of all time" is a difficult challenge. I definitely don't believe that Super Mario 64 lives up to that title. What Super Mario 64 is, is the first solid, 3-d platforming game to come out on the market. Here's the breakdown...

Pro's...

- Same familiar characters and puzzles, one more dimension
- Game design keeps players moving at their own pace
- Bright, colorful 3-d graphics are easy on the eyes, even in the next-gen world
- Decent game length with save points keeps one interested
- Outstanding replay value and challenge

Con's...

- Camera angles are frustrating at parts
- Controls on very specific tasks leave something to be desired
- Enemies are rarely challenging and have simple patterns
- Music is much less memorable than the previous installments of Mario

Unfortunately, creating a perfect 3-d platformer that has the snappy edges and perfect physics that the original Super Mario Bros. did is near impossible, but if you want to see how newer 3-d platformers SHOULD be made, take a look back at Super Mario 64. Super Mario 64 Cartridge was Kept clean and labels are excellent condition

Everything checked out but there is a slight opening of the bottom of cartridge which is a bummer.
In one picture i show how slightly opened the cartridge is and in the other how tight it should have been. It is a pretty old game so i kinda expected i would find this on a classic game cartridge.

Cute, simple & fun game

Awesome Game

When this was first released for the N64 back in 1996, the game was an accomplishment to the gaming industry. The graphics were stunning, play control a thing of beauty, sound and music fantastic, and the game design unprecidented. Even today, Mario still carries the magic he did almost 6 years ago. With a complete new arsenal of moves, Mario must travel through Peach's Castle, and go through a series of painting worlds. Throughout all the worlds, Mario must collect 6 stars. Together with secret stars in the castle, Mario must collect 120 stars total. Of course, getting these stars means fighting through Bowser's army and King Koopa himself. A classic and a must own. Just don't expect it to rock your world anymore.

Where to begin. Mario 64 was Nintendo's first attempt at moving any of their first-party series into the third dimension, and all things considered they did a fine job of it. Mario controls quite well and has an arsenal of different moves that help you get around the levels. The princess' castle acts like a hub for all the worlds and is full of Toads and locked doors. You'll wander the worlds and the castle looking for stars to unlock those doors and get to the Bowser battles to progress to different floors. Along the way you'll find hidden areas, three different power-up hats, and even a special cameo if you find all 120 stars. Yes, 120. If you want to find it all, you'll be at it for a while.

Okay, here's the deal. Playing this game today is very frustrating for me. I won't apologize for being spoiled by more modern 3rd person platformers with dual analog controls that let you freely move the camera. The camera in this game is your biggest enemy. The lakitu carrying it around apparently still thinks it's supposed to kill you. You can rotate it to preset angles and zoom out a bit or zoom in to look around, but too often there's a bit of precision jumping or a narrow bridge and it's impossible to line up the camera. To make it worse, the game will very likely automatically adjust the camera anyway, making all your struggles moot. To add to this, Mario isn't always the most responsive of characters. He'll jump exactly when you want him to, but whether or not he'll be facing the right direction is iffy. Attacking enemies can be a crapshoot as well since the camera won't always make it clear how far you are and most of Mario's attacks require you to be close to the enemy you're fighting.

Alright, here's the bottom line. I spent that last paragraph bashing the camera and some minor control issues, but this game is far from bad. It definitely hasn't aged well, but considering when it came out, it's a very good first attempt at 3D platforming from big N and earns its title as a classic of the genre. The first few levels are definitely fun and the music is as infectious as ever. Just know that the difficulty spikes as early as the 7th or 8th stage of 15 and THAT is when the camera and control issues will start to become glaring. Nonetheless, it's practically an unspoken rule that owning an N64 without this game is borderline blasphemy, so get it, play it, have fun with it, and leave it at that.
