A CLASSIC FOR ALL TIME!

I hadn't watched this movie series for a very long time, and found myself enjoying it -- not only as much as I had in its original release at movie theaters, but from an entirely new level of appreciation. How far we have come in CGI when compared to the original Star Wars series, but more importantly, there is an extra appreciation level for how very innovative and creative the Lucas team was during those early years -- a classic story line of good versus evil, the characters of the story, the special effects, costuming, movie sets, etc. Truly, there is little wonder that this first Star Wars trilogy is a classic for all time and all audiences!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Star Wars 6-DVD Set: Episodes I - VI Widescreen

I decided to buy the DVD set of all six episodes of Star Wars when my grandsons became interested in Star Wars after having played the Lego Star Wars game on Playstation 2. So it seemed like a natural time to introduce them to the original Star Wars episodes.

I was not thrilled upon receiving the discs to see that the packaging was not in English but rather in Japanese or Chinese, I'm not sure which. Thank goodness there was an English subtitle on each disc so I knew which episode it was. Also all six discs were in a flimsy soft plasic sleeve that went inside a large hard plastic case rather than a hard case for each individual disc.

Putting aside my dislike of the look of the product, the discs play well and the price was definitely reasonable. You are able to choose between English or the foreign version on most of the discs. Subtitles are automatically present on some discs and on others you can choose whether or not you want them on. Subtitles were helpful when some characters were speaking as otherwise you were not able to make out what they were saying. I did not like when a character "moaned" for instance and "moaned" was put in the subtitle however.

I gave this product a good rating because I bought the product for my own use, and if you are able to overlook the packaging and subtitles running on the bottom of your screen then I think for the money you are getting a good deal. I think one might want to weigh in the pros and cons of all of the above before giving it as a gift though.

Was nice to watch on DVD`s, rather than old worn-out VHS tapes !

We bought this original trilogy, (4,5 & 6), on VHS tapes many years ago.
We`ve found the first three on DVD`s, (1,2 & 3), at the goodwill over the last few years, but could never find the original first three.

Very good images in your listing. Discs and sleeves are in very good condition --

Thank You

Great deal...minus one strange quirk

This is a great deal for this classic trilogy. One weird glitch...the conversation between Han and Greedo in Star Wars is missing the subtitles, so you cannot understand what Greedo is saying. This is an important conversation as it plays out throughout the entire trilogy. Other than that...no complaints!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

remasted star wars set

I think it's great that they put out all the original Star Wars DVDs in a niced boxed set, but it was not necessary to add scenes, change music, or completely change some imperative scenes. The one that upset me the most is at the end of Episode VI, when Luke sees the holographic versions of Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin. The original version shows Anakin's holograph at the age he was when he died. The new version shows Anakin as his 20-something self. It doesn't make any sense! He didn't die at 20 something, so why does he look like that? (Don't get me started on what a supremely awful actor Hayden Christiensen is.) If they're going to do it, they should follow through and make Ewan MacGregor come back as Obi-Wan, and make Yoda look cute and cuddly.

Anyway, that's my rant. Anyone else agree?

upgrading to DVD

Have the rest of the Star Wars movies on DVD, wanted to keep a full series on DVD and decided I didn't want to pay new to do so. I got a good deal on these. They are movies I have watched over and over again, so it is nice to have them on a format that I don't have to worry about wearing them out. fully satisfied. Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Best? No. Most Influential? Yup! Favorite? Absolutely!

Are these movies the best that were ever made? No. Are they fan favorites and arguably the most influential movies ever made? Yes! While the original Star Wars (AKA "A New Hope") set the stage, "The Empire Strikes Back" is a better film, and "Return of the Jedi" performs the function of completing the trilogy in an entertaining way (even though the Ewoks will wear your patience pretty thin!).
That said, I'm a huge fan. The statement that I worte earlier about them being fan favorites definitely applies to me. I have watched each of these films many, many times and often put them on as background noise when I'm doing other things. I love being surrounded by the Star Wars universe. There is very little that I can honestly say that I don't like/love about these movies. There is absolutely no way that I can recommend these films enough!

Star Wars Trilogy

I remember seeing Star Wars when it first opened in theaters in 1977. It was an amazing film and I went and saw it about seven more times with friends so to own the film and the other sequels that followed are a real treat that I never get tired of watching.

The behind the scenes disk is entertaining and interesting in and of itself. This film changed the way movies are made and launched an exciting industry in film making, animation and special effects.

A very high quality DVD with Dolby 5.1

A great way to own SW 4/5/6 despite the wholly unnecessary post-release tinkering by George Lucas on SW-4. On this Widescreen version you get blu-ray like picture quality and Dolby 5.1....so this is perfect for your older DVD player or even your blu-ray player.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Star Wars Trilogy (2004, DVD) - Widescreen

One of the most exhilarating and influential trilogies in the history of motion pictures, George Lucas's sci-fi spectacular continues to capture the hearts and minds of individuals throughout the world. This release contains the STAR WARS trilogy (episodes IV-VI) in one glorious package. First up is STAR WARS; George Lucas's stunning sci-fi masterpiece, and arguably one of the most inventive and entertaining films ever made. As the adventure begins, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), an impulsive but goodhearted young man who lives on the dusty planet of Tatooine with his aunt and uncle, longs for the exciting life of a Rebel soldier. The Rebels, led by the headstrong Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), are fighting against the evil Empire, which has set about destroying planets inhabited by innocent citizens with the Death Star, a fearsome planetlike craft commanded by Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) and the eternally frightful Darth Vader. When Luke's aunt and uncle are murdered by the Empire’s imperial stormtroopers and he mysteriously finds a distress message from Princess Leia in one of his androids, R2-D2 (Kenny Baker), he must set out to find Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness), a mysterious old hermit with incredible powers. On his journey, Luke is aided by the roguish, sarcastic mercenary Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his towering furry sidekick Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) as they run into a host of perilous situations while trying to rescue the princess--and the entire galaxy. Considered the most morally and emotionally complex of the original Star Wars trilogy, THE EMPIRE STRIKE BACK continues creator George Lucas’s epic saga where STAR WARS left off. The Rebel Forces--which include young adventurer Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), rogue pilot Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and the beautiful but seemingly humorless Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher)--have been successful in destroying the Evil Empire’s Death Star. However, the Empire’s top commander, the terrifying Lord Darth Vader (played by David Prowse, voiced by James Earl Jones), is scanning the galaxy for the Rebels' secret location. After a visually stunning showdown on the ice planet Hoth, the Rebels are forced to flee, and Luke separates from Han and Leia. Masterful storytelling weaves multiple, archetypal plotlines that pit Vader against Han and Leia as he desperately attempts to capture Luke for political--and, secretly, personal--reasons. Luke, meanwhile, finds himself under the tutelage of the tiny but powerful old Jedi Master Yoda, who teaches him the ways of the Force and warns the impatient but talented student against the threat of the Dark Side. Greek tragedy meets a philosophical hero’s journey in EMPIRE, a remarkable sci-fi epic in which the performances are as powerful as the spectacular special effects. The third and final chapter in the wondrous STAR WARS saga is RETURN OF THE JEDI. Luke (Mark Hamill) must save Han Solo (Harrison Ford) from the clutches of the monstrous Jabba the Hut, and bring down the newly reconstructed--and even more powerful--Death Star. With Solo imprisoned, Luke accompanies his faithful droids R2D2 (Kenny Baker) and C3PO (Anthony Daniels) in a rescue bid, with Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) also lending a hand. After they valiantly disentangle their friends from Jabba's clutches, Luke returns to his Jedi Knight training with Yoda. Meanwhile, the Rebel Troops amass in an attempt toVollständige Rezension lesen...
