Spartacus (Blu-ray)

Restored Edition is the one to own.

This restored blu ray edition of the movie is a must own. Make sure to get the Restored Edition. The video quality is outstanding; there are so many scenes with ultra sharp details that will blow your mind. There are cinematic grains and outdated imageries but no doubt they are from original source materials and not from the restoration itself; they do not effect viewing experience at all. Overall, it ranks alongside Lawrence of Arabia as the best restored epic movies from the old days. If you love old Hollywood movies, you have to own this even if it's for historical interest. This IS Spartacus!

I got rid of my DVD for this restored version. It is worth the money. Stanley Kubrick knew how to film and here is a fine example of his best work.

I loved watching Jean Simmons swimming naked. It's a shame that the censors of the time did not allow nudity on film because Jean Simmons would have looked great fully nude in HD.

Like The Ten Commandments, Spartacus was also restored using 6K ultra-high definition thanks to the original Technirama process. Universal should have released a 4K BD but I don't mind; I only have standard 1080p Blu-ray definition.

My favorite extra features are "I Am Spartacus: A Conversation with Kirk Douglas" who is miraculous still alive! Also check out "Restoring Spartacus" about this fine process of preserving the original picture. Also alternate and deleted scenes, Archival Interviews with Peter Ustinov and Jean Simmons, Vintage Newsreels with Tony Curtis Honored and Sir Laurence Olivier Returns to Hollywood, Image Gallery, and most important to me the original Theatrical Trailer.

Spartacus On Blu is phenomenal

I didn’t think this film could look this good... I recently watched the restored DVD from 1985. But the newer Blu-ray looks amazing!

Missing the Digital Copy

The product is advertised as Blu-ray + Digital and that is why I bought it. The Digital copy was not in the case. It had been taken out.
