Old school greatness.

If you're a diehard sega fan, this is a must have! Even has some games ported direct from the arcade. I had to get another disk because for no apparent reason my first one died. Didn't have a scrarch either, but otherwise the new replacement has worked flawlessly.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Best Collection Ever

I love to buy all collection, treasure, and anniversary of any video games. I am telling you this one is best of all. I had this same video game for Xbox 360. Xbox One won’t transfer this game. I did not have Xbox 360 because it burned out. So I still have PS3 and bought this game. My kids and I can play old school games together. Fun time. Whoo! Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Where's Wolverine?!?

Graphics-86/Sound-74/Controls-79/Blast Force-77/Overall-79

I remember this game to be flawed in virtually every category, but I also recall not having HDMI cables the first time around, so that said, the graphics are pretty sweet. Beyond that...nothing's changed. Controls need tinkering, the interface is sloppy, and that incessant beeping and 80's-like techno-tron music pierces the eardrum with the force of a super sonic spin attack. This is a very poor port of some of the best games from my formative years, and correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't BOTH X-men games produced by Sega? Oh, I forgot; Marvel License...under NEW DISNEY OWNERSHIP! This could've saved a substandard attempt to rekindle the flames of passion for a group of games lost and forgotten amid a new PATHETIC era of video games devoid of originality and lethally clogged with online MMORPG's spanning all platforms AND genres. But I digress. There are plenty of trophies in this one, and Segamen like me will rejoice that they are mostly silver and gold...and easily attainable! The bottom line is that unless you love e-bay (which I do), and unless you like the cartridges or how the Genesis boxes look up close or neatly lined up in a row on a display shelf of your choosing (check, check, and...check) it would be incredibly foolhardy to try hunting down every single game that this disc contains, especially considering S.O.R. 3 is still going for 30 dollars pretty much anywhere with S.O.R. 2 climbing towards it at an alarming rate (you could buy 3 Ultimate Genesis Collections for the same price). Think of it as one of those emulator kinda deals for the PC around the turn of the century. The selection's good enough, the price is good enough, and the trophies will make you smile. Just get it as cheap as you can and cry for video games as we know it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Forget those AtGames consoles

This is a much better value The games on this disk are a much better selection than what you get on those Flashbacks which has alot of filler Of the 80 something games on the Flashbacks (plural), how many more are they gonna make, about 30 percent are trash Unlike this collection where there are about 40 games but all original releases with some Master System games as well so dont be fooled by the number on the Flashbacks Of course you do need a PS3 or Xbox 360 to play but if you do own one these this is much more bang for your buck less than haIf of what youd pay for the Flashback If you feel the need for classic Sega gaming get this collection or wait until Sega actually makes a decent mini console thats worthy of the fansVollständige Rezension lesen...

Great collection

Has a bunch on sega genesis titles. Great variety of artwork, history and unlockable games. I’m enjoying titles I know and titles that are new to me like Beyond Oasis. I like these games because most of them get straight to the action and fun. Some have decent story’s/plots. And there is a charm to the graphics and art style.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Good collection of games!

Sonic genesis collection is a good collection of games. It's a little heavy on RPGs but for around $20 it's totally worth it! The graphics have been slightly enhanced so it's clearer on today's tv's.

Worth the price

I had a Genesis back in the day, and loved it. But after playing the newer gen game consoles, the Genesis was forgotten, and sent off to donation. It was kinda cool playing these games again, and seeing how far games have come since the Sega days. As for this version for ps3, I have a few issues, but they aren't major. The games take a longer time to load each time, and don't play the same on ps3 controllers (vs the original Genesis controllers). Also, I would have liked to have seen more games like Ghouls and Ghosts, and Road Rash. But for the price, its a good deal. Its still fun to pop this disk in and reminisce. Im glad to have it as part of my collection!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Huge collection of Genesis games

I was never really a big Sega fan back when they used to make systems, so I was excited when this game was released. Basically what you are getting is a collection of some of the best (supposedly) games for the Sega Genesis. A lot of the games are pretty rare and expensive such as the Shining Force games so it is a pretty good deal. If you have no interest in playing old Sega games then stop reading this and forget about buying it. For those that think that Sega has re-made the games with better graphics; the games look exactly the same; did you ever try to play a Super Nintendo on a 40” Plasma HDTV? Well, it doesn’t look good at all; everything is blurry and stretched out. The only thing that has been upgraded is the fact that the games can be played in HD but look just like they did in the 90s’.

As far as the games go, they are great. There is a huge variety of games from RPG’s (Phantasy Star 1,2,3, and 4, Shining Force 1 and 2, and some others), to action games (Streets of Rage 1, 2, and 3, Vectorman 1, and 2, etc) to platform games (Sonic…all of them, kid chameleon, etc) to puzzle games (columns, Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine which is exactly like Kirby’s Avalanche for Super Nintendo down to the sound effects).

A lot of the games are great and I would highly recommend this game to someone like me who didn’t get to experience the Genesis because they were too busy with their SNES. I would also recommend this game to anyone interested in being a part of the history of video games. For those who played all of these games on the Genesis but no longer have them (Mom sold them at a garage sale, you moved and they went missing, etc) this is a great way to own a huge collection of Genesis games that are exactly how you remember them (except they still look good on a huge TV).

Pros:
- Huge collection of classic Genesis games.
- Looks great on an HDTV.

Cons:
- Younger or graphic obsessed games should stay away.

Nice but not the best selection of Genesis games

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is good for Genesis lovers who want a quick and simple reminder of their days, but on closer inspection, it seems Sega did not pay attention to the actual content. While the presentation is nice on the PS3 with button configs, HD scaled-up graphics, and extra content like manuals and interviews; what really matters, the emulation, is not polished enough. From all the reviews I read, everyone indicated that the emulation was perfect. What I found was not the case. For example, when I played Sonic the Hedgehog, whenever I landed on spikes, I would lose all my rings, immediately hit the spikes again, and then die without any invulnerability period. I found this and other inconsistencies in the emulation of Sonic incredibly frustrating. I have Sonic Mega Collection Plus for the PS2 but it's not nearly as bad. The only true emulation I've found of Sonic is on the PC in things like the Gens emulator or the Sonic Mettrix engine, which are free. So why couldn't Sega just learn from them how they beautifully emulated the original Genesis games? My other gripe is with the collection of games chosen. There are far too many side-scrolling platformers, yet it is missing some of the truly stellar Genesis games. I can understand if Sega was too lazy to get the copyrights from Electronic Arts or Accolade for some of their great games like Road Rash, Barkley's Shut Up and Jam, and Star Control, but why did they miss their own official Sega games?!! Do we really need Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine instead of these gems: Where's Revenge of Shinobi? Where's Toe Jam and Earl? Where's Earthworm Jim?!! For a blu-ray disc, 40 Genesis games doesn't sound like much. Trust me, you would be better off just tracking down the rom files of your favorite Genesis games and playing them on a PC emulator.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
