Snow Falling on Cedars

We saw this film after reading the novel by David Gutterson It was his firt novel.
The film lived up to all our expectations, beautifully filmed plenty of 'moods' with the weather (a snowstorm) playing a big part.
It's a whodunit but interwoven with racial problems after the Pearl Harbour and the attitudes of the islanders to the Japanese community, although most are incommers themselves.
The death of a fisherman turns into a murder trial. An intelligent film beautifully acted and directed

snow falling on ceders

i read the book and wanted to see how the film compared, taking into account the time the director had i would say he did a good job with quite a complex plot.
