FANTASTIC!!!!!

This movie is based on the book of the same name, and it helps to debunk the idea that any human being has any form of superior right to exert authority over any other human being. The result of such thinking is always negative. God never speaks and therefore human frustration results in might makes right. The victors in battle always claim that God was on their side, but reality shows that human life is nothing more than an illusion that is carved out of ignorance and fear. It is then manifest by the brute force ideology of might makes right. Confused? See this movie or read the book and the penny may drop that there is no such thing as a victory of right triumphing over wrong because in the end the victors also perish. No human being has any inside knowledge of what we are doing on this Planet, and it might be a good idea to quit the pretense. In the meantime, yes in the meantime, well, in the meantime if we can't get along with other human beings, then I guess we will continue to deceive ourselves as a species in an effort to make the next war, the last war. But it won't be the last because the moment dictates our responses to life, and that means in the absence of a note from God, we just have to kill or be killed, as senseless as that seems. On the other hand, all of Nature just gets on with the business of killing and never bothers to try and make sense of it. See this movie (or read the book) to get my point.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Slaughterhouse five

Had read the book in high school. Didn't see how it could be made into a movie, but boy was I surprised. Very imaginative version from director George Roy Hill, who did Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting. Wonderful addition to my DVD library.Vollständige Rezension lesen

4 stars But Not True to Vonnegut

It is worth watching, but definitely read the book. I don't think it is exactly what Kurt Vonnegut Jr. intended. The desperate nature of their situation in Dresden is not emphasized enough, nor is the role of luck in life that clear here. It is more like Vonnegut and Kilgore Trout of Breakfast of Champions over layed on Slaughterhouse 5. But it is a visual marvel, regardless. Perhaps it was the producer's input.Vollständige Rezension lesen

A Memorable Film

I have watched this several times now. The book is better . As usual there are scenes that are left out of the movie . But most of the tragic humor still comes through.

A Classic Brought to Life

Kurt Vonnegut, himself, was thrilled with the movie! But you should read the book too!
