The runner up form the SNES

Well, this system brings back great memories for those that grew up with it. It's also a must play for those that have never experienced or played the games for this system before. Definitely has great value for those who don't won't to pay much for a classic vintage system. In other words, the value reflects its lower end specs, with the exception of the faster processor it has. Overall a must have for any gamer or collector.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

A Important part of gaming history thats easy to collect for!

I bought this as a Christmas present for a friend. i was poor as a kid so i started with the Atari 2600 and worked my way up from there. my friends first game system was a dream cast, he missed out on the world of 16-bit 2d gaming. i think this system is a great place to start with the system and its games being fun and fairly cheep still. I love my genesis and few will agree but i think the 32x is pretty awesome to, just did not have many good games. (I 3 Tempo for the 32X) also the model 1 genesis looks great on the outside, the Yamaha sound chip when properly used sounds awesome on the inside, and replacing your capacitors/ owning a 32x fixes the rainbow banding problem. Ontop off all this its a really reliable system that is low maintenance, I play mine more than i play my ps3. A quality Made in Japan product!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

A Classic Yesteryear, and a Classic Today (Sega Genesis Review)

I'm actually a kid reviewing this, so you kind of have to look at this from a kid's point of view. Specifically, an eleven year-old. Anyhow, the Sega Genesis (Known as the Sega Mega Drive overseas) is a video game console that was released in 1989 in the North American market. It was created to compete against the Super Nintendo, but it also competed against other systems of it's time, such as the Atari XE, and, I guess, also the Game Boy if you want to include that. Now, what exactly makes the Genesis still fun today? Is it the massive library of games? How about the many different personalities (I'll never forget the manly humor in Earthworm Jim or the stubbornness of Sonic the Hedgehog.) ALL of the above and more! This system gave you lots of bang for your buck, because it was expensive. $100? 200? 300? No. 400. But there's actually 2 different models of the Sega Genesis. There's the Normal version, and then there's the High Definition Graphics model. The HD model was actually something that the Super Nintendo didn't have. Also, the doubts among the fans and Sega's campaign came down to one simple fact: The Genesis was 16-bit, and the better selling NES was only 8. But what are bits? Each bit does something special: 1. It improves the graphics. 2. It adds more memory. 3. It enables certain other things, such as save states. The extra 8 bits alone in the system caused Nintendo's share of the market to drop like a damn rock. Let me explain a bit. Originally, Nintendo's share of the market was 90%. But when the Genesis (Armed with it's ever lovable Sonic the Hedgehog) fell into place, Nintendo's share of the market fell to just 35%, a drop of 55%. Eventually Nintendo realized that they finally had an archenemy in town and fired back at Sega with the Super Nintendo, but that's another story altogether. So, is it worth buying? Most definitely. In fact, I don't know an old-school gamer who doesn't have a Sega Genesis, let alone a Super Nintendo as well. So, if you see it complete with everything and in the box, and it's under $350, do yourself a favor and pick it up! It will make your gaming life a whole lot more interesting.

Fantastic Value for money

This console runs 60hz out of the box and does full colour at 60hz through composite as opposed to Pal modified machines that will only do this through RGB.

You would be thinking why is composite important ?
Well many Megadrive games were designed with dithering which is a technique that blends together mesh like pixels to allow for more colours on screen and dithered transparencies which are impossible under RGB.

For more information do a google search on dithered transparencies there should be a website called Retro-Sanctuary

So I would like to play the Megadrive games as intended so this is a fantastic buy for that.

16-Bit Goodness!

If you do your research, you can come away a very satisfied buyer of one of these babies! As with most consoles, the inquisitive buyer will discover that there were several iterations of these consoles of the course of it's lifespan. Some had superior graphics output and some had superior sound. One model is even known informally as "The Stinker" due to its poor sound quality. A good rule of thumb is to seek out early iterations bearing the white "High Definition Graphics" lettering. There are many other things to look for depending on your intentions. At any rate, if you find a good one, you will not be disappointed. There's a vast library of awesome games to explore. Don't overlook the Genesis just because the SNES was more popular. It's truly a remarkable piece of gaming history no collector should be without!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

NintenDon't

Unrivaled enjoyment from one of these as a kid and I still never get tired of it. This can even stand up to a lot of newer consoles when it comes to being entertained. Not to mention the possibilities of the attachments makes it rather satisfying to collect 'Sega Gear'.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

It's Awesome.

Even though I got a Sega Genesis at very end of the lifespan, I discovered it's great library of games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi, Super Hang On, Columns and the list goes on and on. This is a great classic video game system along with the NES and SNES systems and I feel that this was one of Sega's most successful systems along with the Dreamcast.

If you are an old school gamer such as myself or if you just want to see what Video Games were like in the 1990s, buy one. They are very common and there is a nice selection of games. See for yourself how great the system and it's games were.

Sega Genesis Model 1 High Definition Graphics

The model 1 High Def version is the best of all three models of the Genesis in my opinion. It has stereo sound and is well built and sturdy. The later models (2 and 3) were built with economy in mind making those consoles of lesser quality that the model 1. The Model 1 is compatible with the Sega CD and Sega 32X attachments also. Overall great product, hours of fun ahead of you!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

The GENESIS of gaming!!!

SEGA Genesis (megadrive) is SEGA's best home console! Could tell stories of the Genesis' I got both model 1 and 2 at garage sales and flea markets, even got one for $5.00's WORKING was in bad shape, dirty, and no cords except a controller that striped! Seller thought it died but worked after cleaned the dust. Second to or rivals the super nintendo! add-ons like SEGA CD SEGA 32X or even a portable version the SEGA NOMAD! Nothing nintendo could produce at the time! In closing durable, portable, add ons, cheap but worth it, some 16-bit classics and gems. SEGA closer than atari to beat nintendo, at that time!Vollständige Rezension lesen...
