Square made this rpg specifically for the NA market. At the time JRPG’s we’re a niche genre and not extremely popular. Secret of evermore was made to appeal to Us audiences and it did just that. Podunk, U.S.A.

The oft-maligned child of Squaresoft U.S.A., Secret of Evermore was thought by many to be the sequel to Secret of Mana. While this was not the case (Secret of Mana, or rather Seiken Densetsu 2, was followed by a third game that sadly did not come to the U.S.) Secret of Evermore was a good game in its own right. Using a control scheme similar to that of Secret of Mana, the player fought through areas with specific time themes; The Stone Age, ancient Egypt, The Stone age, and finally a futuristic space station. Magic, or rather Alchemy, relies on having the right ingredients to cast a spell, a novel concept for the time. The Dialogue is cheesy, but done so on purpose, owing to the main character's love of movies.

It may not be Seiken Densetsu 3, but Secret of Evermore is a good game that deserves a place in any gamer's library.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

A classic RPG that has a unique place in Squaresoft's history.

I rented this game several times, long ago when I was a kid. Only thing was, I really never got anywhere back then. So even though I had played it, it would be a completely new game for me. I started searching around and playing old school games recently and coming across my copy of Secret of Mana immediately made me think of the pseudo-sequel I never bought. After a lot of searching, I eventually decided to order it from eBay. I'm so glad that the price for this game is reasonable, especially compared to Earthbound.

The game arrived sooner than I expected and was in good shape. The connectors looked a little different than the other games I had, but it works perfectly fine.

Secret of Evermore itself is great. It's actually the only Squaresoft title that was created in the USA. The story is simple, and the gameplay borrows a lot of elements from Secret of Mana. But it's alchemy system, two characters, world, story, and music set it apart from its more famous cousin. The setting is a bit less colorful and more realistic. The locations in the game are based on different historical periods, and every location is very different visually. This is something we usually take for granted today, but was pretty special for an RPG back then. And for fans of Skyrim and its music, you'll be interested to know that the composer for that game, Jeremy Soule, got his start in the gaming world with Secret of Evermore.

I'm very satisfied with the game. My only problems with it were a few glitches. One glitch forced me to reload a file and redo about 20 minutes of the game. But that's not the seller's fault of course. The game has a number of glitches because of the inexperience of the development team. Great Retro Game

This game has a compelling, but the characters are bland at times. The graphics for the era of the game are excellent. There is a magic system based on the use of alchemy which is different and refreshing. True to form Squaresoft, now square enix, put out a great game for this console. Brings back memories

An often overlooked gem on the SNES when it comes to Squaresoft games. Anyone who's played Secret of Mana will immediately be familiar with some the gameplay mechanics. A world of imagination

I never owned this...; Around the time this game was released, I rented it from blockbuster and I read about it from a nintendo power magazine. It was a great game!

Before the FF7 craze that put RPG's in mainstream media, RPG's that came on the Snes were either popular like FF6 and Chrono trigger; or had great reviews but not so popular or sold well like this game.

Secret of Evermore was one of those games that fell into that category, and became one of the system's diamonds in the rough.

Players took the role of a boy and his dog who find a machine in a abandon mansion in Podunk and get transported into the world of Evermore; As they explore they encounter the 4 leaders of Evermore who have become stuck in their own worlds of their own creation due to an accident 30 years before the events of the game. The boy and his dog must travel throughout Evermore and find a way for them and the leaders to return home.

The theme of this game is imagination, such as the alchemy system, references of b-rated movies, and the areas of evermore itself, shows that imagination can make things possible.

Players will send a lot of time searching for alchemy ingridents for spells, finding formulas for the said spells, bratering for charms and items, and building weapon and alchemy spell levels. The battle and menu systems are similar to secret of mana, so those who've played secret of mana will feel right at home.

For those who've never played a Snes game or RPG fans of today who've never heard of this game, I recommend that you give it a try. I know I have. =)Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Memory..Skewed or just grew up?

I remember playing this game once in the past, I think I was about 12 or 13 at the time, and it lived along side Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III as the best rpgs of the day. I came back to this now, approximately, 10 years later to find that it is not nearly as good as I remember.

The Good points... the battle system is just as kick arse as it once was, same with the graphics.

The not so good... The story line is pretty childish, there isn’t really any main quest you are just sort of floating along completing fetch quests and solving puzzles (market place) and completing mazes (the end of Fire Eye's land) that make you run around in loops as you go. The weapons leave something to be desired as well, the weapons up grade cyclically and you will find yourself only using the newest weapon you have received.

One thing I can say for this game is it is a great conversation piece. Another is the graphic on the cartridge itself is awesome! Over all today it is BLAH. but if you have some good memories with this game pick it up.

From what I remember, this was an Amazing Game.

About 4 years ago I sold this game, and I regret it so much. The game was quite amazing from what i remember. It had a Great Story, it made me want to keep playing to see what would happen next. The battle system was pretty awesome too, I love the idea of finding ingredients to use alchemy. The gameplay never got boring for me, I loved the puzzles you had to solve. Overall it is just a great game in my opinion. You should give the game a Try if you havent, your missing out on a great Enix game.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
