Gripping.
I was first lent this film when I came home from hospital and was confined to the house for a while. I watched it five times in the first four days. It's a simple story told simply. You're straight into the action. The filming is excellent and the use of muted colour beyond compare. It takes you back - right back - to when men had an honour, an honour they had to see through to the end. No let-up. In the end, the job is finished. I'm no fan of Tom Hanks, but this film made me regard him as not half bad. The light and the colour of the period is caught so well. Each death affects you deeply, though you understand the reasons they have to die; everything so well-told through the eyes of a boy who's mind should be full of the wonders of the age, yet here he is contemplating the real life of the age. We see him grow, from a boy with a boy's heart to a man with a sense of duty on the brink of a new age.

Wonderful story and acting.
This is a classic gangster film of great characters and the acting is superb and the storyline really brilliant, the background music is also captivating, Tom Hanks at his very best.
