It changed me ^_^
I grew up with Soviet Union Russia film cameras, FED-5, Kive-19 and Zenit-122. And my primary cameras are Nikon D700 and D7100(for longer reach with telephoto lenses). My favorite combo is D700 and 24mm f2.8 prime lens. I like this setup so much that it becomes my only setup to grab on a trail or vacation. Until one day, my wife mentioned that I looked so strange and she felt embarrassing while other people are using their phones and pocket size cameras ^_^. I thought about that and searched and found a rare but somewhat familiar name Ricoh GR. And I remembered that in 1996, my friend bought a Ricoh GR and I bought a Nikon 35-70mm p&s camera in Hongkong. After the prints were out, Ricoh GR beats Nikon pants off. Since Ricoh GR digital IV is the last model with smaller sensor so I decide to give it a try since it's a lot cheaper than the aps-c GR series.
Wow! What a surprise, it changed my life! First, It is not easy to use because I have to set it up to the way I want a picture to be taken. What drives me crazy is that I totally understand what the setup menus is trying to do but the way Japanese's thinking to store my commands to the camera is disconnected. Now I can setup the 'P' mode in the way that I like. And my test pictures makes me satisfied! The picture quality can not match D700 and 24mm f2.8 for sure but picture quality is not much less outdoors because of the smaller sensor's DOV. The sensor size is closer to human eyes, so the pictures matches more like my eyes can see! I was worried about the color from this camera but it turns out I like the color because it is close to what my eyes are seeing too. And I can set it up to forget some of the lights I don't want to see. It's like a special effect filters in lightroom that you can see the final result in the rear LCD before picture is taken. It's very cool!
This camera is so light, 165g, much lighter than the aps-c ones. I actually dropped it twice already because my muscle memory is still for D700. It's the first time I can hold a camera and running in the wood for 10 miles securely. A big rectangular phone is not secure to hold for long trail running. The shutter lag and stat/end time is acceptable to me.
Now I am setting it up for my snap focus. I wish it can have a mechanical focus dial on the lens with indent to let me know which focus distance I am at.
I wish this camera can last many years for me. I also have a sony RX100 but Ricoh GRD IV is definitely much better to use for me. RX100 is for kids to take homework pictures and submit to school now. For PS, I set the picture to "Vivid" in camera and then process them in lightroom3.6 with 'punch' preset.
Now this is a camera goes with me any where. Ricoh GRD IV is so special. I don't think newer aps-c GR and fujifilm x100 series can replace it for me. The small ccd sensor and the 28mm/1.9 prime lens made a magic for me.
It's macro mode is so good. It's easier than any DSLR lens I used. It can focus so close that I can use it as a scope with circuit board and IC chips! And the picture is very sharp because of the DOV.
Now my camera is set up. If I want to change anything during picture taken, I just hit the adj. button and scroll left and right. Everything I can think of will be at my finger tips. This is so convenient and fast! Vollständige Rezension lesen

There are some issues when I turn on the camera. Sometimes when I turn it on, it turns off immediately. Other than that the camera works, hardly any visible signs of wear and tear.
