Resist - and miss out
The much anticipated return for the symphonic metal legends Within Temptation is a step further away from their roots into mainstream rock - I was awaiting this release with trepidation but this is a really good album. A worthy successor to Hydra from a talented group of musicians
Within Temptation have been around a long time and it's interesting to follow the evolution of their sound from their early days as the band has matured and in some respects become more commercial, in the positive sense of the word. This is their latest album and although I've only rated it 4 stars this isn't to suggest it's not a great album but rather it is to a degree overshadowed by its excellent predecessor Hydra. It has the same immersive breadth of sound as the previous albums and Sharon den Adel's vocals are glorious to hear. The inclusion of a number of guest vocalists adds some variety. There are a few great tracks such as Endless War and Supernova but for me they fall just a little short of songs such as What About Us (Paradise) and The Whole World Is Watching from the previous album.
It's certainly an album worth buying and my advice would be to buy both this and Hydra and see which you prefer. It could open your eyes to all the music from non-UK artists being enjoyed by the rest of the world.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Lovely to hear the unique sound back after five years. Only disappointment - lost a bit of melody.

A great cd from within temptation, the item arrived late, due to the pandemic, but good value plays well and sounds epic.
