Best shaver I've ever owned, seriously.

These are a superb value at twenty US dollars and a fair value at thirty, but forty dollars is getting pricey. However, if the units being sold today are/were manufactured in the same factory as mine then the quality is excellent and it even includes a very nice protective case. Some expensive shavers only come with cheap bags.

I've owned a wide range of electric shavers, including a *much* more expensive model from Panasonic. Though it shaved nicely when brand new, it was the worst shaver I've ever owned as the blade/foil dulled rapidly and the unit corroded due to moisture ingress and stopped working after only 1 year.

Though sold as a "travel" shaver, I've now used the ES3833 as my *primary* shaver for over 10 years. I initially bought 3 of them in 2010 at thirteen dollars each. At that price the whole shaver was less expensive than a replacement foil! I now wish I'd bought 12.

This shaver never leaks, the traditional foil lasts a long time, and the AA batteries allow the use of rechargeables, which will run for 1-2 months on a charge with quality NiMH cells. I recommend charging them at least once a month to maintain good performance, though.

NiMH cells, such as Eneloops, offer a lower initial voltage, and thus blade speed, than alkalines, but will maintain a consistent speed for a long time. Alkalines will work fine in a pinch, but shaving performance will suffer long before the cells are empty, thus causing excess waste unless you can re-use the half-empty batteries in something else.

The traditional head does not shave as well in one pass as today's premium heads, BUT it stays sharp and effective for longer than the newer designs, in my experience. It takes no more time for me to shave than with prior shavers.

I love almost everything about this design. The *only* flaw I've found is that fine hair eventually collects somewhere under the slide switch and can prevent full engagement of the trimmer, which can then cause poor cutting and even hair pulling if it gets bad enough. To avoid this, I occasionally slide the switch back and forth fairly aggressively under running water until the position "dot" moves fully up to the trimmer symbol. I do this maybe twice a year or whenever I notice the "dot" no longer reaches the trimmer mark.

Even with the aggressive cleaning, the shaver has never leaked as zero moisture or corrosion occurs inside. This is easily checked when replacing the batteries. Even if moisture did get in, this shaver can be opened to dry via the battery door, whereas shavers with permanent batteries cannot.

While this shaver remains fully waterproof over many years, I don't normally use it in the shower. Some models with different blade/foil design seem to shave better in the shower, but this one doesn't, in my experience.

These might not shave as efficiently as a brand new $300 shaver, but the ES3833 is the best shaver I've ever owned at any price. I highly recommend it, even if you choose to only use it for traveling ;).

Used to be great because it was cheap and ubiquitous

This used to be a great device precisely because it was cheap and small. You can get a better shave with others, but this one was almost disposable and super easy to fit in a dopp/travel kit. I've owned about 4-5 of these over the years. Try and find a pocket sized linear shaver with a c

However, key parts of it are poorly made - the foil mostly, and to a lesser extent the clipper. Both have broken on mine. The clipper is impossible to fix, the foil can be replaced but it is priced so high that you may as well buy a new one.

Now that this item is no longer on sale at most retailers for $25-35 and instead is at $45 only on eBay, it really isn't worth the risk. Unless you are willing to take very good care of it.

Buyer beware, on my last one, the foil dented within 2 weeks. (FYI a dented foil might lead to an uneven or not close shave at best, may pull on hairs). Previous ones have had holes in the foil, which leads to cuts, but that was after at least a year or so. If you can find replacement foils cheap, then go ahead - I just saw some non-OEM replacement parts on Amazon for $11 + shipping from China...

Handy As A Pocket on a Shirt!!

With replaceable AA batteries, no re-chargeable batteries to fail. If it slow up, just replace the batteries! It shaves close ALWAYS! It has plenty of power to do he job, batteries last about a month or two. It is a great razor to take on a trip, no charger or cords to fool with. I I've had 4 of these, I highly recommend it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great replacement for the Braun shavers of the 1980s

I had been having my Braun shavers from the 1980s replaced, repaired, finding new ones, old ones that still work, and I'd finally given up. Repair shops can't fix them anymore and it's no longer worth buying old ones. They are sadly dead. BUT, this shaver is a great replacement. Basically the same design and general technology and this one is specifically AA-battery-run which isn't a bad thing. The old on-board batteries on the Braun's charged and corded ones that could be used cordless had their own technical problems over time. This is great—the shave is a little closer, can be used in the shower, cleans easily and might last even longer than the old Braun models. I'm quite happy to have found this. There are no other shavers of this design nowadays. Use it with lithium AA batteries for longer life. Well done, Panasonic. However, it too is already an older model that is no longer made, so buy it while you see it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Unexpensive product of good quality

I was using another, more expensive model of Panasonic shaver (ES8813) for more than 5 years. I bought the ES-3833s a month ago, an I was not disappointed. It shaves very smoothly, the battery life is impressive. The only difference between this model and its predecessor is the size of the holes in the foil: there are bigger. So, do not apply excessive force during shaving, otherwise you will cut your skin. My previous shaver had a built-in battery, sometimes the device stopped during shaving, because the battery had to be recharged. Now I always have another battery, and the device is always ready for use.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Good price, good device

This is a good shaver. The best thing about it is that it uses replaceable batteries, and the cutting parts are easily available on the internet. Thus never worry about the battery being the cause of ultimate demise.
Works well with shaving cream! Has a trimmer for those long ones which don't feed into the shaver.

Excellent compact shaver.

This is an excellent compact shaver.
It shaves well and the trimmer is good.
Also I like that it runs on ordinary batteries rather than being rechargeable.

But unfortunately it is now rather hard to find a supplier; I don't think that Panasonic are still making it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Best damn razor for the shower.

I use it at every shower. You can hear it catching the stubble left behind by a double or triple edge plastic handled shaver. The pop-out trimmer is in a place to see exactly what you are trimming. The stupidly expensive shavers have the trimmer in places where you cannot see what you're cutting. Dumb idea. Batteries last a long time. I have three: one in the camper, one in the shower at home, and one in my travel kit.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
