Nikon AF-S DX VR 16-85
I'm happy with the quality of this lens vs. the 18-55 VR it replaced. In comparison to the 18-200 VR this lens offers much less distortion on both ends of the spectrum. The focus is fast, motor is almost silent and tack sharp throughout the focal lengths. It is built quite well and looks like it will hold up for quite some time. There is a metal lens mount with a rubber seal to keep out the elements. The body of the lens is a tough plastic, however the barrels are made of metal. It accepts 67mm filters and comes with a nice petal shaped lens hood.
The only shortcomings of this lens are in regards of the speed. F/ 3.5 - 5.6 is relatively slow. You will find in low light conditions, such as dimly lit indoor areas that this lens will not perform as well as one would hope. Focus is still on point with a strong AF illuminator (D200 as tested), however shutter speeds will still drop substantially. VR makes up for some of this loss in speed, but it cant do everything. You're going to need a flash in order to keep shutter speeds quick to capture motion indoors. Even at max aperture f/3.5 is at 16mm, so your not going to be able to get in close to the action. Dont rely on VR as a crutch, but as an added bonus to make sure your images are as sharp as possible.
Outdoors this lens is great. 16mm will give you a lot of extra perspective in comparison to 18mm kit lenses. VR along with any aperture outdoors will give you more than enough speed to capture most motion.
Overall this is a great walk around kit lens replacement. For indoor use be prepared to use a flash. I would also recommend a fast prime lens as well. I trade off with a 50mm 1.8D for really fast action outside and great images indoors. If your looking to spend twice as much, go for a 17-35 or 17-55 F/2.8 zoom from the Nikon pro line. You wont get VR, but with a constant aperture of 2.8, you probably wont need it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
My new lens!
Arrived earlier than expected. Works great. It's my go-to lens for general out and about shooting. The 16mm focal length adds an extra dimension to my style of photography.

An excellent mid range zoom worth every penny, I would buy again! Love It!
I am writing this review with the understanding that this lens is being judged as a all in one zoom in the US 500-$600 price range. I have and currently own a number of quality Nikkor lenses. I purchased a D7000 to replace my D700 camera and I needed an all in one lens to "Get Me By" until the D700 replacement came out. I have owned the Nikkor 18-70vr in the past and currently own a 24-70mm FX. I have also owned a number of other mid range zooms such as the 24-85g, the 17-55g etc. I purchased the 16-85 because I was looking for a step up lens to the "Kit" lenses bundled with the D90 and D7000 D-SLRs. I wanted a lens with improved performance with a metal mount and it had to have VR. I also wanted a lens that was wide enough to make it an enjoyable walk around lens. The 16mm wide end fit the bill perfectly! With an equivalent field of view of a full frame 24-128mm lens it is a perfect choice for my needs.
From the first moment I started to shoot with the 16-85g I noticed a number of very positive attributes:
Superb sharpness at almost all focal lengths.
Fast Focus.
Good color.
Excellent VR.
Much smaller and lite compared to my 24-70g FX lens.
Build quality is excellent for a upper mid level lens.
The focus and zoom controls are tight and smooth, no lens creep as with the 18-200g, and virtually no barrel wobble as the lens is extended during full zoom.
If you read the reviews from most serious on-line reviewers this is a excellent sleeper of a lens. It really deserves all of the praise it receives. I guess the best compliment I can give it is that when I go out with the 16-85g I do not feel as though I am missing something not having a 17-55g or 24-70g with me.
If I had a wish for this lens it would be a constant f4, but that would raise the price and make it a heavier lens.

Great studio lens!
Just received this lens a few days ago and only had tested it indoor at night shooting things around the house last night getting ready for my photoshoot today. I haven't got good results even with the internal flash going off on the camera (settings were iso 800,wb flash, shutter 125, and fstop 5.6. The images were still dark and soft. Today I've just did a studio shoot with a female model and the images were sharp and bright with a pair of whitelightnings. Because of the lack of space I had to work with, the wide angle 16mm came in handy to do full body and the 85mm telephoto part was great for doing quarter body to headshots. Keep in mind the crop factor 1.5X on the camera expanding the lens zoom because it is a DX lens from 16-85mm to 24-127mm when using on all none full frame camera. I'm planning to test out the lens some more tomorrow in daylight to see how the lens produce outdoor with sufficient lighting in daylight. Anyways, until I find out tomorrow this lens is great for studio work.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

workhorse lens!
This is my primary lens for about 75% of all of my photos. I use it mostly for weddings. You don't get second chances to shoot them, so you want a lens that covers a good range to adapt to situations in front of you. The 16-85 mm range gives you the flexibility to handle this fast paced environment without having to switch lenses or cameras. The lens will handle everything from wide landscapes to intimate portraits with a nice bokeh. Nikon 16-85mm AF-S 3.5-5.6 ED DX VR Lens
One of the best retail lens that Nikon offers! This will give an excellent "walk around" lens that is very versatile giving sharp shots from the widest angle to the more distant shots at 85 mm. This is a professional grade lens, but at a more moderate price, and offers an excellent value. Pair this lens with the VR-II 70 - 300 telephoto lens for your camera and you will be ready to get some of the best pictures a Nikon digital camera can offer. While the package lens have composite plastic bases, this lens has a metal connection, so you are sure to have many years of excellent service without problems. Very good lens for the Nikon D5500
I am using the Nikon D5500 as a travel camera rather than my D750. The D5500 coupled with the 16-85mm lens is perfect for travel as it is light and the lens has a good range more my needs (about 24-125mm in FX terms). The lens has produced good pictures in my use.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
