Pretty good

I put around 30 hours into this and could play it more if I didn't have a backlog to work through. A very entertaining title! If you are a Burnout fan you will feel right at home playing this. If you are an older NFS fan I don't know if you will like it.

Positives: Plays and feels like a Burnout game, Online play is great fun - trash talking and great moments, a lot of rivalries form quickly as you play online. Graphics are excellent - scenery is a beautiful back-drop to the races.
A ton of solo events available - many types of events from races to hot pursuit, time trials...Read full review, etc. The weapons on both sides are easy to learn how to use.

Negatives: One you rank up to around 12 or so on each side (cop/racer) it tends to get monotonous (max rank is 20). EA online pass code makes buying used more of a pain. Online races with people at max rank are a lost cause. No local multi-player split screen - a big bummer!

three big flaws in a great game series

BIGGEST THING THAT SUCKS IS YOU NEED THE ONLINE PASS CODE TO PLAY ONLINE.......stupid stupid stupid design......all games should have the online feature already with them instead of having to buy them! warning, steering is super slow to react and feels like the cars dont turn at all unless you drift them around the corners. unlike previous need for speeds where the cars turned well. also the AI traffic is quite stupid. if you are a cop and have your lights on, instead of pulling over and stopping the cars just stop in the middle of the road which makes it difficult to go by them sometime whithout hitting them. however if these last two things dont bother you then the game is great. if the online is a deal breaker then buy the game new because used copies the code has already been used and then you get screwed out of online play.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Need for Speed, Need to buy!

This game pumped me up from the first trailer I watched a couple months prior to its release, unfortunetly for me, my busy school schedule (BTFU!) prevented me from purchasing it for longer than I would have liked, but it was well worth the wait!

Graphics -- 4.5/5 The graphics in NFS: HP are amazing. Based in a rural mountain area, every inch is crammed with vivid scenery. Waterfalls, trees, and even the grass, make concentrating on the race at hand a challenge.

Gameplay -- 4/5 Actual crashes, drafting, and NOS replenishment based on how crazy you are. You can access what event you want to do from the map screen(whether it be police or racer). Each spot has several different events that you can do,such as racing to be the first to cross a finish line, or making it to a road-block in time to catch a wanted suspect. These events are fun and provide a new spin to the NFS franchise.

Gameflow -- 3/5 In this title you don't pick a starting car and go from there. You unlock cars as you progress through the game and earn bounty, and you are able to use any car that you've unlocked at any time (provided that the particular event allows it). There's no money to earn, no impound strikes you have to avoid at all costs, and no real plot behind the racing, just the climb to reach the most wanted racer in the city, or the most accomplished and skilled police unit. For those of you that like a nice story behind the madness (like I do) you will find this game lacking here, but it makes up for it in other ways.

Customization -- 1/5 One of my favorite parts of NFS games was customizing my ride, the decals, underglow, window tints, and all of the other options. Unfortunately The most you can do in this game is choose your car, and its color, before each event.

Difficulty -- 5/5 This isn't like Carbon or Wanted, where you can poo on the competition with little-to-no effort. Almost every event is a challenge from the start to the end. Be prepared to attempt events more than once as you try to reach the highest distinction.

Fun ??/5 This particular category isn't for me to decide, I can only offer more opinion and my personal experience with the game. As a completionist this game is very interesting and fun to play because it provides a challenge that other racing titles lack. It is fast-paced, action packed, and will have any race enthusiast itching to try the next event.

Farmville with Wheels?! Cmon EA! Could've Been Better!

Need For Speed isn't exactly known to be a racing simulator like Forza or Gran Turismo. But still...I expected more from this game. I mean small things like local 2 player mode is gone, an easy to navigate main screen is unheard of, and Autolog is another word for Facebook. Seriously, I don't want to post pictures and comments on people's walls when I play a video game. I'll do that when I'm on FB. Autolog has been the most annoying feature in recent video games. Plus it wants you to invite your friends and try to beat your records. Really?! THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THIS GAME is to think of the ANNOYING features of FARMVILLE and WINDOWS VISTA. Put them together and BAM, you get Autolog.

The game, however, does have some great things going for it. The graphics are top notch, online game play is fantastic (IF you have the online pass code which if you buy used, you will have to pay 800 Microsoft Points JUST TO PLAY ONLINE!)

Not worth it if you ask me. They overly commercialized the game and it just did not feel like I was playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.

New Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2010

this game is a lot of fun .. nice graphics .. 2 issues i have : 1 - feels like your steering the car from the middle, not the actual front wheels of the vehicle.(but you get used to it and its all good) 2 - need to be multi-player offline, that's a major draw back . this game is too much fun and the developers screwed up by not making this multi-player offline .. (it multi-player online , via xbox live.. which of course i have .. l.o.l.)
other than that, the game is cool .. i recommend it for single player and online game play .. but if you have buddies or a family member, and you play offline often or don't have xbox live , you will not play it much , cause taking turns sucks .. l.o.l. if you like BURNOUT(race game), you will love this game ..

need the speed

Game is good overall. I have always loved the Need For Speed titles but this one can get repetitive and if you don't have an online pass, you will have to buy one for 800 microsoft points or $10.00. I'm not sure but this is the first used game that I have bought to where I could not go online until I coughed up more money because the code in the box had been used. I have never needed a code for any other game. Nonetheless....hours of fun.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Much More Than Simply 'Need For Speed Meets Burnout'

The latest iteration of the Need For Speed series returns to the fan-favorite Hot Pursuit edition of the franchise. Even better: Criterion Games, most famous for the Burnout series, delivers a perfect-or-quite-close-to-it installment.

At first, steering your vehicle seems a bit stiff, but it's part of a buildup to faster rides that handle better. A Dodge Charger feels dramatically different than a Bugatti Veyron...and the effort it takes to move up feels more than worth it.

Plus, there's an emphasis on arcade-style drifting, with more of a focus on preparing for the turns by braking or letting go of the accelerator for a second (or holding the line if it would be faster). Since the developers of Burnout are involved, also expect to spend a fair amount of time boosting with nitrous and racing in (and dodging) oncoming traffic.

The graphics are definitely noteworthy; the cars look absolutely gorgeous, even moreso when you've crashed, or caused another racer to do so. It also helps that Criterion crafted a very aesthetically pleasing setting to wreak all this vehicular mayhem on: Seacrest County features waterfronts, deserts, mountains, forests, and more...

...but back to the racing. There's no shortage of it here, as the career modes are quite long. Not only do you progress through ranks in 40+ events as a racer making a name for yourself, you can also prove your worth in speed enforcement with a equally lasting career as a cop, as well.

There's speed runs, hot pursuits, races, and gauntlets - a mix of evading the police AND trying to set a fast time. You will be learning Seacrest County's roads while gaining new equipment, to either help you finish races or hinder suspects participating in them.

When you've honed your driving enough, take your skills online, where a couple of online modes extend the life of the gameplay. Not only that, but they prove to be quite addictive and enjoyable, sure to extend the package even further. There's 4-on-4 Hot Pursuit mode, the highlight of multiplayer, featuring intense racing while dodging police officers controlled by other players. Another mode is Interceptor, a cat-and-mouse game between a cop and a racer, one that can get quite frenetic and exciting. Last but not least, a pure racing mode exists, where you can race up to 7 other drivers to show off your finesse.

In addition to everything else, Autolog proves to be quite a fun treat of a feature; it allows you to keep track of, and constantly compete with, your fellow racers. Whether it's how many online races you've won, or how fast you were compared to your buddies, it automatically tells you how you fare amongst your online friends.

Not to knock the previous "review" too much, but suggesting Forza 3 or Gran Turismo 5 is quite pointless: Need For Speed has been and always will be arcade-style racing. It's easy to pick up, difficult to master, and hard to put down. It's definitely worth checking out: a complete package plus more, and easily the best arcade racing game this year.

Disgustingly Bad

This game is terrible. I am disappointed in NFS for diverting from their glory days when you could go in, and Build a car from the tires up with a ton of modifications. There is absolutely no modification or money exchanges involved in this game whatsoever. You go through and unlock cars, which are race specific with each race using a certain "series" of cars. Say goodbye to the days where a honda civic could keep up with a real sports car. They don't even have everyday cars on here. Closest thing you'll find is a BMW M3, or Subaru STI. I also always hated using cars made by companies like Lamborghini and Pagani because it is just so unrealistic. Don't worry this game is PACKED FULL of them. When am I ever going to drive an Aston Martin? Never. Waste of time, and epic fail by the makers. I actually plan on writing them to let them know how displeased I am with their revamp of the series. No more going to a car lot, or garage... No more being able to change anything on the car besides paint color, (and even those are limited to stock options.) Changing the rims and slapping a decal on the bumper are even out of the question. Such a pitiful attempt at a Need For Speed game. It has addicting potential so it doesn't deserve a 1, but it definitely is bad. One of the worst parts besides the whole unlocking races 1 at a time and earning cars you can only use in a certain specified series has to be this whole Weapons arsenal nonsense. Spike Strips, EMP, Jammer & Turbo... so ridiculous. lol I might just throw it away so I don't have to spend time looking at it while I sell it on eBay.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Awful

Review for Xbox 360 edition of Hot Pursuit:

This game is just plain awful. You buy a race game with cops in it to outrun the cops. There is very little of that! The driving mechanic is terrible, as is the pacing. The develops put all their effort into the graphics and didn't care about any other part of the game. Expect to spend the entire game bouncing off walls.

In the original NFS Hot Pursuit you could expect excellent races with cops chasing everyone and trying to box you in, etc. Expect none of that.

This game includes a few childish gimicks that no one cares about and throws the cop chasing part in the garbage can.

When you play this game, you will feel like your in a pipe just bouncing from one side to the other all the way to finish line.

EA is notorious for rushing games with a one hour "wow" factor in order to sell to the video stores, and make a fat profit if they are the only buyers. They could care less about customer satisfaction and they take no pride in their work.

I don't think the developers ever played the original need for speed hot pursuit. They were probably too young.

Instead of real time crashes, you get cut scenes and then miraculously your car is straigtened up on the road after the cut scene. There is even a cut scene at the beginning of each race the "automatically" starts you out so you don't even get to take off from the starting line yourself. This is all the hide the broken mechanic in this game.

The physics are way off as well, and there are too many other bad things to mention about this game.

buyer beware.
