This past year, the Nintendo Wii has really delivered in making a promise of delivering gameplay that is fun and addictive as the game system delivered. That has been the case with great games that really showed it like Excite Truck and the dramatic The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. With all that said about great games, mini-game excitement has also delivered too with the return of the Mario Party series. It has been almost 2 years since the franchise had its last game on the Nintendo Gamecube, and worked like a charm by being innovative and fun for all ages. Now, it has finally made its way onto the Wii, but is it worth the wait.

Mario Party 8 for the Nintendo Wii is a wild and addictive game that brings out a simplicity for gamers young and old alike, as you unlock and play over 70 minigames that are easy and fun to play. There are also a few new additions here too, as you can also unlock players including Blooper, the sea squid from the Super Mario Brothers games, and Hammer Brothers, which recently returned in a great set of guest cameos in Super Mario Strikers and Mario Superstar Baseball. The graphics are delightful but the gameplay is definitely what brings the game to its success, as you use the Wii remote to play in games like waving a magic wand and using an energy ball to strike Bowser in a one on one showdown, punching a statue to smitherines with a boxing glove, or using it you are shaking a soda can and creating a gusher in one of the duel minigames. You can also use your Mii characters that you've created from games like Wii Sports and have them play in the Star Carnival and play games like ping pong. The graphics are delightful and the sound carries well throughout each of the boards, but the gameplay really does deliver for new Wii owners as well as die hard Mario fans alike.

All in all, Mario Party 8 is a delightful game that welcomes the party franchise Wii owners well. I loved what the series brought out for so many years, and I know that this edition does a great job as well. Considering there are so many great games coming out for the Nintendo Wii like Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, this one is definitely a wonderful addition to your Wii library.

Great Party Game - Not so Hot for 1-player unlockables

Mario Party is great for a group! The "party tent" board games for 3-4 players are excellent, with different types to choose from to make the game experience fun. With multiple players, and no computer players, you can truly have a good time and maybe even the winner of the game won't be the one you thought! The minigames are for the most part excellent and not too repetitive, & its a fun break to stand up and have some activity. However, "to unlock" the 2 final characters you must run thru the 1-player "Star Battle" mode twice. My first run through was easy enough, but on the 2nd run through things really got out of hand. There is no reliance on the players skill. The game computer viciously skews the dice rolls, position of stars, computer's skill at the minigames, etc to make the game 'harder' and more based on luck. Well, what it accomplishes is extreme frustration on the player's part. I could not even get through the 1st battle (of 6) the second time, and I turned it off in the middle of my third try after getting too angry to continue playing. A 10-minute battle was taking 3 hours because every time I would get close to winning, the computer would tweak things to make the computer player win. Suggest you stick to the Party Mode and have at least 2 friends with you. Don't bother trying to get the unlockable characters - save yourself the frustration.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

PARTY TIME! Un-bias review of Mario Party 8.

Although repetitive in nature, the Mario Party Franchise has been a booming business since its first release on the Nintendo 64. With a new game coming out every year like a sports franchise, the series has seen little change over the past 7 titles. Finally, with the next-gen revolution we see some large changes that make this ever-popular party game legend worth picking up for a second chance...Here's the scoop...

Pro's...

-- Great graphical improvement from the last installment.
-- NEW Wii CONTROLLER MINI-GAMES (can't stress enough how cool that is)
-- Even with one other person, this game is playable for weeks at a time.
-- Intuitive board game design keeps the competition high up until the very last minute.
-- Familiar characters in familiar settings. Always a plus.
-- Cheeky sound effects and music are reminiscent of classic Nintendo gameplay.
-- Fun for ALL ages.

Con's...

-- The same basic concept as all the other Mario Parties.
-- NO ONLINE PLAY (really big bummer)
-- There are already tons of mini-game collections for the Wii.
-- If you have no friends, this game is REALLY lame to play by yourself.
-- Guaranteed to start a fist fight when you accidentily punch your friend in the jaw with your wii-mote.

For playing video games with more than one person, it doesn't get much better than this. The energy that comes out of competing in such worthless little mini-games with a friend is dumbfounding. Great party game. Not so great to play alone though.

To sum, Mario party 8 is virtually an interactive board game filled with simple yet amusing mini games that utilize the wii mote in various ways. You select a Mario character ( a cast of about a dozen people that includes obvious favorites like Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi, but also contain characters I wouldn t expect, like blooper) and being to play on the area of your choice. Though their is different areas, most areas have the same objective revolving around collecting the most stars. The game play is like a board game, you hit a die, and depending on what you land on depends on what happens (gain/lose coins, mini games, etc). The game Graphically it is fine for the Wii, nothing spectacular, but better then gamecube graphics. While at times it will be slow paced, it can easily be fun for all ages. The game is best played with more then one player. Single player, while still holds the same game play as if your playing with friends, it's kinda like playing a board game by yourself, not amusing. The game has party in its name so it warns you to bring some friends to make the game entertaining.

Overall, Mario Party 8 for the wii continues the tradition of mario party. Odds are you have probably seen or played a pervious mario party. This game is without a doubt a top game to get a child, though fun for all ages.If you liked any of them I strongly recomend buying. If you weren t a big fan I would recomend renting before buying, because you might enjoy this one. Those new to the series would most likely enjoy this game. I would only stray away from it if you don't like board games.

Family friendly fun game! Very competitive!

This is a perfect family and friend game (very competitive)! This game will challenge you against others; everyone against each other, 2 vs 2, 1 vs 3 - all at the roll of a dice. This version was made for Wii but compatible with Wii U; graphics not as nice true Wii U but very much still enjoyable. Fun, not amazing, but overall a great group game

It really bothers me that Mario is somewhat the face of Nintendo but didn't really blow me away with this one. First, it does not offer widescreen, which bothers me because usually groups of people play this game together (requiring a larger tv). Second, there isn't much Wii functions and playability like Rayman. The controller is used more like a classic controller than through motions and actions. When there are times you do use the controller in a non-classic way, you are moving it left to right (rowing your lilli-pad down a river) or pointing and pressing "A" (cutting the string in the guessing launch challenge). You would think Mario games would be the games that require more exciting controller features but not in this case.

Audio: 3 out of 5
Graphics (taking in consideration of Nintendo's capacity): 4 out of 5
Controls: 1 out of 5

But again, this game is a good group game. It will induce a lot of laughter and enjoyment. But it could provide so much more fun it the Wii-motes played a bigger and better role, rather than classic controllers. It is fun to see your friends and family look goofy, but maybe 9 will do a better job at this.

-This game is a very good Virtua-Board Game. The main game play (Party Tent Mode) is basically this; you hit the dice, you move, you get money, you buy candy, you buy stars, and you play a mini-game, rinse and repeat. The occasional battle/duel mini-game happens, as well as events that are triggered by landing on certain spaces occur, but that’s it for main gameplay. All other areas are variations of this.
Except for the Minigame Tent. Here, you can duke it out with friends or computers in games in which you only use minigames. You can do that, or you can play any minigame freely in Free Arcade Mode.

A game for the non-daily gamer

I bought this game for my wife because she loved this game when it was popular on the N-64 system. Mario party games in general are very simplistic and offer fun in a multi-player environment. Mario Party 8 is no different. I can see why my wife likes the game because it is very easy to play. There is nothing about the controls that is too difficult to learn in any of the minigame puzzles. In the end, the game offers a non-daily gamer like my wife an opportunity to brag about beating me for once in a video game. In addition, a young child would be able to play all of the minigames as well since they are relatively simple. For myself, the game leaves me feeling empty as I desire a game that requires a little more along the lines of having some fine tuned game control skills. Great maps and minigames, menu system looks ugly

Mario Party 8- great game for family and friends

I played this game with a friend and fell in love with it. I really like board games, so this is my kind of video game. It is a great game to play with a few friends or the family, but can't be played with any more than 4 people. That isn't that big of a deal when playing video games with a group of people, as you can often take turns, but Mario Party 8 takes too long to take turns. Unfortunately I often have 5 or 6 people over and this game is rarely chosen because I don't want to have to leave any one of my guests out of the fun.
