A good starter unit
The Pros:
A good starter unit.
This is an overall good GPS for an older unit. The display is clear and easy to read, the map displays direction, time and speed, as well as the name of the street you are on. Trip mapping display is even more informative and easy to follow.
The Bluetooth function is easy to use and works well in a quiet vehicle.
You can add your own POI's to the SD Card with Magellan Software.
The Cons:
Map upgrades are expensive and out of date. I think Magellan probably loses 2nd time buyers because of their neglect supporting the older (but not archived) units. You can buy a good, used unit for less than an out-of-date map upgrade. Also the same with the voice recognition feature which is locked without a 99 dollar upgrade that doesn't have that many commands anyway. Maybe Magellan will focus on improving these areas at some point, they make a good product.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
Magellan Maestro 4040 Offers Great Features.
The Magellan Maestro has just about every feature you'd want in a GPS device and for the most part, works very well. It offers voice commands, blue tooth, street names and is easy to use.
On occasion, it doesn't seem to have any idea where it is. When this happens, the map doesn't update and directions are not given. I've found that re-setting the device will usually fix this. This is the only fault I've found with it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
Nice device for easy operation
Overall dimensions of the Maestro are ideal for car use. Big screen, bright enough even in the sunny Athens, fast enough processor for it's price.
Easy operation for the amateur, you haven't anything to fiddle such as comm ports, baud rate etc.
On the other hand blocking access to Windows Mobile 5 that are running behind is a major draw-back for the experienced user who lacks the opportunity to load some other useful software. Of course there are some ways to overcome this but the result is not always as desired.
The decision to have this gadget was made after some problems navigating the area in the area I live.
I would buy it again if I had to.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
Overall: Worth the investment, but have a mapbook handy.
GPS is very helpful for me when driving in San Francisco. It gives me the best route thru the City. Also great for the Oakland Hills with it winding roads, and tight turns. Using a GPS really takes alot of stress away from driving. Negatives: Buying a used GPS means you get an outdated software. This GPS has old data, and doesn't recognize 3-yr old bridges and new on-ramps.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
Great GPS! Easy to use, Looks Nice, Great Options!
First off, I got this GPS for a great price with everything included and in excellent condition! :) It has some great options (we like it more then my husbands brand new tomtom xl) I love the address book and the bluetooth wireless calling! Along with the ight mode which automatically switches the screen to a cool black and orange look! The maps are great and the directios it gives are great too! One thing it does that my husbands tomtom doesnt do is when you are approaching your turn the screen splits into two and shows your upcoming turn on one side of the screen and your driving map on the other, its very helpful! I also love the 'doorbell' chime when its time to make my turn, and it is so exact as to where the road is compared to the tomtoms too! WE LOVE THIS! Strongly reccommend it to everyone looking to get one!Vollständige Rezension lesen...
Megellag Maestro 4040 GPS
Needed a replacement unit and this was the best price I saw at the time.
The Magellan Maestro 4040 is in the middle of the new Maestro line, and probably is the device which offers the most value. Like the other Maestros, it comes with a nice large 4.3 inch display. Despite the big display the 4040 is packed into a nice thin .8″ case and weighs about 8.5 ounces. It also comes with the legendary SiRFstarIII chipset. So how does it stack up to the other Maestro devices and other brands?
You get maps of Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska on this device, which you don’t get with the Magellan Maestro 4000. You also get about three times more POIs installed on the device, coming in at around 4.5 million. If you frequently need services in unfamiliar areas, having all of those extra POIs can be nice to have.
You also get Bluetooth hands free calling included, as well as text-to-speech. Text-to-speech can be very nice to have when the streets are close together and directions telling you to “turn right in 300 feet” doesn’t quite cut it.
If you are considering subscribing to a traffic service, the Maestro 4040 offers you the ability to add that feature later, but it does not come with a traffic receiver in the box. This is an advantage the 4040 has over the 4000 which is not upgradable to traffic services. If you are certain you want traffic coverage, then consider the Magellan Maestro 4050 which comes with the traffic receiver included… as well as speech recognition as a method for providing commands.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

the Magellan is the best GPS i have ever used
the Magellan GPS is the best i have ever used.when the company made the maps ,they went into detail and covered all the bases. it works in all the small and out of the way towns and cities, it even has the country roads and trails in their maps. I drive a tow truck in a small town so i need a good GPS to get me around. I have tried MIO, TOM TOM, and GARMIN, all which have gotten me lost.so far the Magellan has not let me down, or made me pick up a map book. EXCELLANT UNIT!!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

What's The Point?
It's true that a Magellan 4040 was included, but only with a USB adapter that isn't much good to charge the unit. There are instructions, but none in English. The unit might as well not have been included. IT'S USELESS.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
