Interesting look at China during WW2

I was very surprised with the whole movie. It developed the story and characters exceptionally well. The characters were so real, and the story so interesting. You never really knew what was going to happen from one scene to another, it was so real and not predictable. It was a little long, but well worth it. Better than expected

This movie is set in Shanghai in 1942, when the Japanese Army had invaded China and occupied the city. It is well-acted and written and seems historically accurate. The characters are well-drawn and the plot, which is to kill a Chinese national, who is an intelligence agent for the Japanese, is very suspenseful and realistic. Also, I was very surprised that there was more sexual activity than I expected in the movie between the agent and a young Chinese girl who was trying to set him up to be assassinated. In fact, the sex scenes are very different from what is usually seen in American sexual scenes. In America, the sex is constrained and inhibited. In this movie, the sexual scenes are very realistic, though not pornographic. They do not show penetration, but real sex, the kind that normal people engage in. Additionally, the film does not end in the way you might expect, and not for the reason you might suspect, but again, for a reason that is totally unexpected, but also possible.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Some of it ws good, other not as good. DVD arrived in great shape, like new

DVD was in Mandarin, It would have been better in English. Over all, it was a good movie.

Foreign language with English sub-titles....not for me.

My bad for not realizing that the language spoken was Chinese, with English sub-titles trailed across the bottom of the screen.

Outstnading film

My only complaint is no English track, its in Chinese with English subtitles. But a great movie!
