Dan Fogelberg Live Greetings from the West DVD

I am a career long Dan Fogelberg fan, having been to several concerts and own much of his catalog. When I first saw the Greetings from the West DVD, I had to have it. Having seen one of his appearances during this tour, I knew it would bring back memories. As soon as the DVD arrived I put in, the sound quality is average at best, owning the CD this was not a big problem. The reason for the average rating is the quality of the video, it looks like a poor copy of a worn VHS tape, it appears as if Sony was trying to put something out on the cheap, or perhaps the masters were really that bad. Regardless, I was very disappointed by the quality of the video that Sony put out. It was good to see Dan again on the stage, but there has to be better quality video out there of his concerts. Perhaps Dan, Sony and PBS could put out his Sound Stage Video from a couple years ago before he became ill.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great music

I love the DVD. The music is wonderful. Dan Fogelberg is a great singer songwriter. He was the best

A Wonderful Memory

I remember seeing Dan Fogelberg in concert around 1981 or 1982 in what was advertised as an all acoustic evening. It was just Dan, his guitar and his piano. After all this time I still rank that night as the best concert I've ever attended. Dan's music made an indelible mark on me and even though I knew he was battling cancer, it brought me to tears when I found out he had passed. I started searching for concert DVD's and this is the only one there is available. I read reviews of others who had purchased this DVD and I have to agree with the group of them who noted the direct transfer to DVD of a VHS recording. It leaves you wishing someone had taken the time to clean it up and remastered it before releasing the DVD. But I sat, and watched, and was again moved and mezmerized by Dan's music and by his performance. If you are a true Dan Fogelberg fan and want to have a lasting memory of Dan, you have to get this DVD. True fans will look beyond where the video and audio are lacking and will see a true artist, and an amazing man performing music which touches the soul. A very good, rare live performance!

If you are a fan of Dan I would recommend this video. I have all his albums from the 70's and 80's which were his best in my opinion. He had a medical problem that limited his vocal range mid career and in this video he seemed to struggle a bit on the high notes. It is still a very good performance. I have only seen one other video of Dan....something on PBS a few years ago not long after his death. This is a must-have for any Dan fan!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great video from one of my musical heroes

I've always loved and admired this great and versatile musician. Of course, you can always find fault in any production or performance, but I'm glad to have a copy of these memorable musical masterpieces from an artist who had to leave us before his time. I was lucky enough to have seen many of his concerts over the years, but in this video I was particularly interested in Dan's interviews and commentaries on various songs. Great concert!

Saw Fogelberg live in concert. One of my favorite artists. So sad he's gone, but I can enjoy this performance any time I want. Superb songwriter with an absolutely gorgeous voice.

Remembering Dan at his best

With Dan Fogelberg's recent passing, it may be hard to give a completely unbiased review. However, for those of us who have listened to and loved his music, this is a must for the collection. Getting to view his passion as well as listen to it adds to the experience. Show starts wonderfully with "Aurora Nova" into "The Wild Places" (These were new at the time of the concert) and ends with a moving "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler".
