Naughty, but funny

Very entertaining. Just what you would expect from Lily Allen, naughty but good fun, and very easy to listen to. Loved it!

2 good

Lilly's first album is brilliant and her follow up album was also very good. After a long break her third album just didn't cut mustard for me though there are a couple of good tracks

Superb!

A standout for 2006 record of the year.
A great mix of sounds and original lyrics.
Sometimes subtle but always entertaining.
The purchase of this CD is money well spent.

very good worth a listen

I enjoyed what I'd heard of Lily Allen's music before getting this album - the single Smile and LDN - but hearing the term 'one hit wonder' being thrown around as much as it has been you can't help but be a little sceptical. Luckily enough, though, she surprises with a mostly decent set of tunes on Alright Still. Lily's attempts to combine funny lyrics with catchy, reggae/hip-hop tunes are laudable considering the amount of self-pitying, po-faced and morbid trash you get nowadays, and she manages to get the balance right on the majority of the album. Not all the songs are successful, though - Friday Night and Take What You Take seem a bit forced lyrics-wise, and the music isn't particularly great either. But then every debut needs a few turkeys.

Everything else raises a smile though, and sticks in the mind - Knock 'Em Out would make a brilliant follow-up single to Smile, being both hilarious and catchy. Likewise Everything's Just Wonderful, which is probably the best use of a Salsa-esque tune I've ever heard, and has the best line ever in a song: "I want to be able to eat Spaghetti Bolognese and not feel bad about it for days and days and days." (It never fails to make me laugh anyway) Friend of Mine is a little slower and more serious, but also a strong track. Not Big is another good one as well, for the excellent chorus alone ("I'm going to tell the world you're rubbish in bed"). The thing about Alright Still is that it's both genuinely funny in parts and musically interesting - a combo that's definitely something that's in short supply. I think Lily Allen has something all her own, and the potential to be much more than a 'one hit wonder'.

Stunning

Lily Allen makes her mark on the pop scene in her debut album, Alright Still.

Although to describe it as pop is perhaps a little insulting - it's far more original than that.

Lily's unmistakable, cheeky and quite rebellious style makes this an album worth listening to if you're bored with the humdrum of what's normally heard in the charts - and unlike many albums, you could listen to it all day every day and still never tire of it.

The lyrics identify nicely with modern life, and Lily's versatile and quite beautiful voice is mesmerising after a while.

I don't mind saying that this is by far the best album I've ever bought, and Lily is without a doubt the best singer the music industry has ever produced. Only one gripe - the album booklet could have done with a few more photos of the gorgeous Miss Allen herself :)

(¯`'•.¸(¯`'•. Pure Genius ¸.•'´¯)¸.•'´¯)

Lily Allen has done some backing work for Robbie Williams, so I listened to her releases.
I bought the album because I liked 'Smile' and 'LDN' but this album has soooo much more to offer.
After just 2 or 3 plays, I was hooked on every track.
She has a totally unique style which is a breath of fresh air.
They are catchy, fun and witty.
I cannot believe someone can make such good songs about a lazy brother or being turned down for a mortgage.
Strangely enough, although I'm of a different generation (eek!) and the subject matters aren't relevant to my life, I still feel a connection with her and her music.
Its well worth listening to, you might surprise yourself.

To some it up in two words :

Pure Genius.

Smile!..... and get mugged

Ms Allen,

What an album you cheeky lickle scamp! Just like you old man you've got a snarl and the swagger to slap your rivals or any girl who shouts in your face. Some say that you are paying homage to hip hop, reggae and ska like any other bored middle class kid but I feel you are a very different breed Ms Allen.

Smile is a craking bit of bubble gum pop with hard centre breaking your teeth like a crowbar to the cakehole. You almost remind me of Mike Skinner, neh! Ray Davis (ask yer grandad kids!) with you little swipes at your ex and how your revealed in his mifortune. Pure sadistic pleasure for 3 minutes and that was me hooked, line and sinker. LDN is another slice of urban decay served up on a ska platter taking me back to the days of the Specials. A keen eye and a acrid sense of humour is common in your songs but I'm not complaining in fact long may it continue.

The Littlest things and No friend of mine are two songs which show you in a different life but we must suffer to truly know that we have lived. No Friend of mine is another good track and the reggae dance hall solo is almost Lauren Hill (Ex-Factor, anyone?) but still complements that song superbly.

If you are a fan of Ska, reggae and hip hop then this is a good investment and Ms Allen does have a bright future ahead of her as she does have a lot of things to say and more Brits to win ( Oooooo.. was I cruel there?)
