Good acting and a great Americana period piece

I have watched this dvd many times and always enjoy it. It's a story about family interaction, the nature of love, living in Montana during the time of WW One and much more. The scenery is gorgeous. The actors fit their parts and are excellent in their roles.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

This movie is great but could have a better title

If you like good storytelling with good characters that age through the movie with tragedy and love, this is the movie for you. Plus the cinematography is fantastic! It cries for viewing on a big screen!

The first time that I saw it, I did not like this movie. I think that I got confused by all the changes in time and people as it went along.

The second time that I saw it, I loved it. The love of the three brothers (Alfred, Tristan, and Samuel) for each other is rare and stands out boldly! The anti-war attitude of the father, William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) really meant something since he was a retired Army officer trying to shield his family from the government, prohibition, and red tape. And it is World War I that is the catalyst for the evolution of this story.

The lady, Susannah (Julia Ormond), who comes to their Montana ranch as Samuel's fiance and bride and changes all their lives is the most important part of the story. What happens to her life, the father's life, and the three brothers' lives is monumental and an American tragedy. Brad Pitt as Tristan steals every scene in the movie that he is in, and this movie made him a real star.

A better title for this movie would be "Montana Tragedy".

Sit back and don't get up. Otherwise, you will be like me the first time and get lost. This is a story worth your ultimate attention.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Wonderful Beautiful Epic

There are very few movies like Legends of the Fall. It covers about 25 years or more have a family in Montana. It's a beautiful and wonderful story, some of the best actors alive! Brad Pitt, and not just because he's gorgeous explanation Hawaii Anthony Hopkins is amazing, as is Julia Ormond. But it's such a touching and beautiful story, I can't just sit down and watch it anytime. It makes me weep oh, so I have to be really in the mood to watch it. But I do love it. How Brad Pitt's character forms such a closeness to one stab, Lee Native American, and I just love how Anthony Hopkins character try so hard to help the Native Americans, to no avail. He just gives up. He even writes books. Yes, I got really drawn into the story! I didn't care very much for Henry Thomas's character, that I was crazy out of my head for Brad Pitt and Julia Ormond. So very ecstatically happy when is about to and Brad Pitt. Together, married and had children. But what happened a few years later will completely break your heart. But it's all part of the story. A expic movie of a family's history of love, deception, and survival.

This is a story that takes a family from the war in canada which involved england to prohibition in America. It is also a story of conflict between 3 brothers in one family. I involves seduction of the fiance of one brother by another with many problems that arise from this. Death and betrayal is also part of this movie. It is very moving and exciting as you progress thru time. The brothers go in very different paths in their lives and this provides a very entangle web of many circumstances that drastically affect their lives. I consider this movie one of the great movies that stand with the 10 commandments and and the Godfater. I highly recommend this movie.

Legends of the Fall

Excellent screenplay, a star-laden cast, well acted, well directed, perfect setting & scenery and an epic period piece. Brad Pitt tends to land fantastic roles in epic motion pictures. It runs the gamut of cultural & family togetherness & turmoil in a time vastly different from now, when honor & ones word actually meant something. If you've been living under a rock & haven't seen this film, and don't measure a movies greatness by K.P.M.
