An excellent portrait of how particular Americans have continued to disregard and take continued advantage of Native Americans.

This book describes how the Osage Indians, who had been displaced to a ‘reservation,’ discovered oil, began to capitalize and grow their wealth until dollar loving Amuricans decided “that ain’t right,” and got the F.B.I. to clean up and make right. Real history can be painful when the truth is told.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great history, very accurate and equally well told.

Excellent book which deals with a true event that took place in the town where my grandparents lived and raised their family…Fairfax, Oklahoma. It concerns itself with the killing of Osage Indians by a group of whites in order to steal oil royalties which belonged to the. It is an excellent book—-well researched and well told.gVollständige Rezension lesen...

An incredible book, an incredible learning opportunity!!!

I found out we had Osage in our family, so I had a vested interest in reading this one. Honestly, it was such a good book it keeps you interested (even if Osage is not a part of your family). I had read Tragedies of the Osage Hills (also a great book) first, then this one. Now I'm not a skilled writer, but this book has a flow that suggests it's very well written. The amount of research done to complete it must have been extraordinary. Needless to say, I'm also curious how the movie (that JUST finished filming in Pawhuska) is going to be. But I think you really want to have read the book, before you see it on the screen.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Compelling Page-Turner About a Shameful Period in American History

This is a riveting, briskly written tale of the systematic murder of Osage Indians by their white "friends" and guardians who sought control of their oil wealth. Structured like a murder mystery, this extraordinarily well-researched book lays out what the historical records show about this sad period in American history. It is a quick read and a page-turner, which is exceptional in a nonfiction history book.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

America's shame

Non fiction is not my favorite genre , but this book reads like a novel in some parts. The details and data sometimes makes the story drag .
