Uproariously funny

It might be enough that the comical Hugh Laurie stars in the series as Wooster, or that the humorist, author, and actor Stephen Fry stars, as Jeeves. It might also be enough that the series is set in England with some of the best set designers, costumers, and gracious palatial settings were employed on this series. It might be enough that the music is creative and well performed. However, Clive Exton masterfully adapts the books on Jeeves to a wonderful series that can and should be watched again and again, in order to fully appreciate all the gags and satire while tracing the life of Oxford graduate Bertram Wilburforce Wooster as he lives a rather easy life mostly in England in the nineteen-thirties. He is joined in the first episode by his new valet Jeeves, who is simply wiser, more astute and more informed than his employer. At the end of the series, we are not only extremely fond of Bertie Wooster, but are in awe of his man Jeeves. Many elements to enjoy over and over.

This was just as I wanted. I had seen a couple of episodes when it aired on TV and wanted to see all of them. This set is great and Fry and Laurie are great in it. Not only have I viewed all discs but have seen some of them over and over. I intend to keep watching them for a long time. I love seeing the lifestyles that were in the past and they are able to utilize the dress, homes, cars and attitudes of the period. I am really enjoying them.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great Writing transformed into TV series.

Take a classic writer who pleased readers with his humorous stories of a forgotten time of innocence: P.G. Wodehouse. Take a couple of fine actors and some good script writing: Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. And blend with some really excellent videography. What you have is some wonderful family entertainment.

This series brings to life the essence of Wodehouse's stories about a friendly, bumbling idle-rich Englishman and his super smart and dedicated personal valet as they get mixed up in all sorts of hilarious quandaries in the early 20th century. Engaging Entertainment on Every Level

Jeeves & Wooster is absolutely wonderful! The casting, the costumes, the hair styles, the antique cars, the music, the Art Deco: all brilliantly choreographed to bring you into the 1920's. P.G. Wodehouse' writing is so engaging you feel as if you are there with the cast. And no one could have played Jeeves and Wooster better than Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. Every episode is full of humor and intrigue as Bertie Wooster gets himself into impossible situations while his personal valet or "gentleman's gentleman" Jeeves comes to his aid. P.G. Wodehouse can't be beat!

If you are into subtle British tongue-in-cheek humor, this is top-shelf stuff. The original series ran from 1990 through 1993, so the complete collection includes all four seasons of the series.
r>Wodehouse was particularly good at skewering the upper-class rich, but idle, Brits of the era. I have throughly enjoyed this series, just as I did when it was first presented on A&E. The collection may be out of print now, but there are several copies available on the used market.

Well written, well acted, delightful scenery, period costumes, and superb music.

Love this series

If you're a fan of P.G. Wodehouse, you will not be disappointed with this television series. The stories are taken directly from many of the short stories and novels. The characters of Bertie Wooster and Jeeves are simply perfect. I can't imagine anyone other than Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry in the roles. Their comedic timing is excellent.

Hate to See Jeeves and Wooster End

This series has to be a classic. While I don't claim to be an expert on English comedy (except I love a lot of it), this one is great fun. These characters are two of the most entertaining. I love Hugh Laurie anyway so seeing him in this series after seeing him on "House" is such a hoot. The two characters of Wooster and House are different but similar. This was definitely one of those series you just hate to see end. But at least with the DVDs I can watch them over and over and over... and I am. Jeeves and Wooster

The complete BBC DVD's of a British comedy involving rich-but-not-too-bright Bertie Wooster and his unflappable and brilliant butler Jeeves. Hugh Laurie is remarkable and funny as an upper class Twit and worlds away from his dark role as House M.D. Steven Frye as his perfect valet, with an inexhaustible fund of knowledge, a flair for creative mayhem and the perspective to know when not to listen to Bertie (which is almost always). A motley crew of rich eccentrics, imperious matrons, inbred wastrels and pompous authority figures round out the wonderful cast. Based on the Wodehouse books. fry and laurie in a golden performance

This series is brilliant. Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry's performances and roles are intelligently done. No obvious special effects necessary- good writing and excellent acting make this entertaining to watch.
The quality of the video itself is superb, also. The soundtrack leaves something to be desired at times, however. Although the audio quality is good, the music itself is usually a variation on the opening theme, which will become an earworm after a few episodes.
Overall, nice show. A shame it only ran for four short seasons, but I guess that was inevitable unless they were to become repetitive or overly formulaic.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
