Great Value

I'm very pleased with the CPU. It has renewed my old Lenovo and made it almost like a new computer. I also upgraded the RAM and installed Windows 7 Ultimate, which would not have been possible without this CPU. Because of the great price on the CPU, I was able to upgrade both the CPU and the RAM for less than $35. Incredible!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great upgrade for a machine with a 32-bit Core CPU

I bought this CPU as an upgrade for a Toshiba Satellite A105 with a lowly T1350 Core Solo 32-bit processor (533/667MHZ FSB). The Socket-M based Core-series CPUs are one of the few laptop processors that can be upgraded to the next generation of Intel CPUs (64-bit Core 2).

I patched the BIOS to the latest version and then gave this T7600 CPU a try. It worked like a champ.

Using Artic Silver 5 thermal paste I have had no thermal issues. Then again, the power consumption difference between a T7x00 CPU and a wimpy Core Solo is only 3 watts (31W vs. 34W). Most heat changers ought to have this small amount (10%) of thermal overhead built into the design.

If you want to bring new life to your 32-bit Core laptop, give a T7x00 series Core 2 Duo CPU a try. The T7200, T7400 and T7600 all have 4MB of L2 cache and very similar clock rates (2.0 to 2.33 GHz). Just make sure you get the correct socket (M or P) and front side bus for your application (533, 667 or 800 MHz).

Excellent CPU.

Superb little processor. Does exactly what I needed it to. Replaced a single core and what a difference in speed and efficiency. It has changed an old laptop into a great competitive one that can now hold it's own with the latest manufacturers have to offer!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Excellent to revive and improve an old laptop without spending a fortune.

The T7600 processor is the top of the Core 2 Duo series. I had an Acer Aspire 5633Wlmi, with an Intel T5500 and I wanted to slightly upgrade it with this CPU, mostly to have the hardware virtualization available.
I use virtual machines a lot so I knew that having this mechanism supported directly at hardware level would have improved things sensibly.
Hence I bought a used but reconditioned T7600 (a new one would have costed me way too much), reflashed the BIOS with a modified version I found on the web and there: the processor is working perfectly, the vtx is there fully working and I have to say the performances of my machine got improved almost on every point of view. Excellent buy this was.

Fastest CPU for Mac Mini 2007

This is the fastest CPU you can install in the Mac Mini 2007. It performs about 20-25% faster than my original CPU (Core 2 Duo 1.83). Booting and certain everyday tasks are noticeably faster after the upgrade. In this sense this is a worthwhile upgrade which will extend the life of my old Mac Mini.

The installation is quite difficult though. In my case it took about an hour.

Best processor for Intel Calistoga i945gm pm motherboard.

I bought this processor to upgrade my laptop, IBM T60, motherboard: Intel Calistoga i945gm pm. It originally had a Core duo 2400 @ 1800MHz. Updated the bios and this chip worked great. Very fast, all the speed is available and is in use. FSB is 667 just like my old chip so no gains there, but it's the same speed as the fastest ram available for that board, so compatibility is great. I was very satisfied with the description of the product; all the specifications were available. This is the best chip that my motherboard will take. I can't compare it to anything else. It simply wins.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Awesome processor. Best way to upgrade a laptop, definitely.

First of all, I wanna say that this is a high end CPU, so it will work sweet on any PC that supports it.
I will cover some basics about how I pick it, why and the results. If you just wanna read the review, go to the very bottom and read.

Identification:
First of all, my PC: dv2125la. Motherboard: Wistron 30B2.
What I checked? My current CPU, which was a Intel Core Duo T2050. This CPU only came out in socket M presentation, ergo, my motherboard had one without even the need of opening it.
I already had opened before, so I knew for sure it was a PGA (Pin Grid Array)
At this step, if your laptop has a BGA, don't even bother unless you have the proper equipment to solder BGA CPU's or you know someone who can do it.

Research:
Ok, so at this point I knew I had a socket M. What's next? Investigate which processors came with that socket. You can either browse Intel's pages or Wikipedia for a full list.
So, the "best" processor with a socket M turned out to be the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600.

So now, how can I tell if that CPU is compatible with my motherboard? If you wanna take the safe course, choose the same FSB (Frontal Serial Bus) that your actual CPU has. T2050 has a 533MHz FSB. So any socket M, PGA and with a FSB of 533MHz would be a safe course.

But what about the T7600? Well, this was the unsafe course. That CPU has a FSB of 667MHz. Which might not be compatible with your current motherboard. How can you find out? do some research about your "Chipset" (If I'm not mistaken is the northbridge)
My chipset turned out to be 945GM, which according to Intel's database supports 533/667 MHz FSB. Also, it is marked as a compatible product with the T7600. So good news!

Purchase:
So next, I did some research about prices, new vs used, Amazon, eBay, and some other pages.
I chose eBay and a used one due low price and basically because CPU's, if used properly, it's so hard to get damaged. So even when buying a used one, wouldn't make much of a difference from a new one.

Installation:
Keep in mind you have to place it, and place it correctly. You might need some tools to disassemble your laptop or simply remove a cover. Oh, and some thermal compound, as you'll need to replace it.
I cannot give more details here, since it's different for every laptop. But it's important to do it properly.

Set up:
In my particular case, Core Duo T2050 to Core 2 Duo T7600 was a huge step forward. So after installing it, properly, my laptop didn't boot. It wasn't a malfunction CPU, since my BIOS detected it. The problem? different architectures, lithography, generations, instructions added, different frequency, cache, it was a huge change, as stated. So I had to do a clean install. (This CPU supports 64 bit OS, so I was gonna do it anyway)

Performance:
After the OS installation I checked "Windows experience".
Passed from 4.5 to 5.8 in CPU and from 4.7 to 5.8 in RAM (Remember it was a different FSB, so my ram actually now runs at 667MHz)
Difference in heat dissipation was only about 3W, but I kept an eye on temps. No problem at all, even on 100% load.

Conclusion:
Great choice. This is/was an expensive high end CPU, and I got it for about $50 USD + Shipping.
But it's new life to the laptop. It performs way better. This is one of the last options if yo wanna improve performance, but if done correctly, it'll work just sweet.

Webpages:
I shouldn't post any, and I won't. But do research in "ARK Intel", "Wikipedia" and users experience.

Thanks for reading.
L8er!

The best upgrade for an older laptop.

This is perfect to upgrade an old Dell e1505, the old one was 1.66GHz and oh so slow. With this CPU upgrade and an upgrade to the wifi card the speed is really really much better that new because it actually is better than new.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great upgrade for Late 2006 Core Duo iMac!

I wanted to upgrade my white, late 2006 iMac from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo. After reading all about how to do it, I found myself an online tutorial from ifixit, and proceeded to do "brain surgery" on my iMac. It was very nerve wrecking to say the least, and when I got to the last step of removing the chip, the picture on the tutorial was from a different machine!! I decided to use common sense, and pressed on - successfully :)

The more difficult part for me was the installation of Lion. You see, the installer looks for something to tell it whether it can be installed on a certain machine. In this case, just because the machine recognized the Core 2 Duo chip, the installer didn't - that was very frustrating.

How I did it: I connected my iMac to my MacBook Pro in firewire Target mode. The first time I tried it, I was on the Lion partition of my HD, and it said I couldn't install Lion as it was already installed - even though i was choosing a different disk! Grrrrr! So, I booted the MBP with the Snow leopard partition, went to the App Store, found my Lion download and tried it again. This time with success! So far the iMac with upgraded Core 2 Duo and Lion is running great. Updates install ok so far. I hope this is a happy ending, and that Apple doesn't catch on and put a stop to us being able to upgrade a "non upgradable" computer!

Good luck if you try this!
