High School Musical
With all the hype surrounding this film, I steered clear for a long time, thinking it must be overrated. I was wrong. When I finally gave it a chance, I discovered myself charmed by the sweet story, catchy music and winning ensemble cast. This is a true movie musical and it is done well. Kids will enjoy the singalong version and parents will like the fact that it depicts high schoolers in a positive, wholesome light without minimizing the underlying social message of tolerance of differences and being yourself. The talented, young cast are all likable (even the snobby Sharpei and Ryan) while the leads have real on-screen chemistry. All in all, HSM is an enjoyable family film that will appeal to different age groups in different ways.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
Excellent Movie For The Whole Family!!
High School Musical is one of the best movies that has been produced in the past several years!! It is fun and energetic, making you want to sing and dance along. It is a clean, wholesome movie that is acceptable for people of any age to enjoy. My 8 year old loves this show and has all the words to the songs memorized and loves to act out the different scenes. He couldn’t wait for it to come out on DVD and the day it was released I bought a copy. The DVD hasn’t had much rest since that day! :o)
The storyline is wonderful as it shows just how selfish people can be and the pressures that teenagers face. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this show here is a short synopsis: Troy (Zac Efron), the popular captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella (Vanessa Ann Hudgens), the brainy and beautiful member of the academic club, break all the rules of East High society when they secretly audition for the leads in the school’s upcoming musical. Eventually, their friends find out and aren‘t happy about it. Troy’s friends are afraid he will lose his concentration and cause his teammates to lose the upcoming basketball sectional. Gabriella’s friends are afraid she will lose her concentration and cause them to lose the upcoming competition they are wanting to win. So, they do everything they can to keep Troy and Gabriella from getting the parts they auditioned for. As they reach for the stars and follow their dreams, everyone learns about acceptance, teamwork and being yourself.
Newcomers Zac Efron (Troy), Vanessa Ann Hudgens (Gabriella) and Lucas Gabreel (Ryan Evans) are brilliant young actors. They harmonize well together in both the singing and dancing scenes. Ashley Tisdale is wonderful as the snobby, self-centered Sharpay Evans. She is also a great singer and dancer.
In all I give this movie a two-thumbs up, a rating of a perfect 10 and I highly recommend it to everyone!!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

High School Musical (2006, DVD)
I purchased this DVD for my children (ages 4 and 7) who love the pace of this Disney musical within a musical. This particular version of the DVD allows you to set the movie with words of the songs to sing along! My girls LOVE that feature!
The cast is talented and fun, and you just cannot help singing along to the words of the songs! The story line is classic teenage woes of finding yourself and doing what you love - whether it be sports or singing or academics. The stereotypes for different groups in high school really end up being shattered as they realize (and sing), "We're all in this together."
Sure, this is somewhat cheesy, but the strong cast and wonderful music stand out and draw you in! Children and younger youths may be easily caught up in the fashion statements and "love" story, so talk with your children about the difference between movie fantasy and real life.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Love High School Musical
I LOVE Musicals!! The High School Musical movie is fun and entertaining movie. The music is great for kids and delivered a nice clean message about sincerity and devotion. My 5 year old couldn't stop talking about the High School Musical movie before we got a chance to watch it, read reviews, etc. so I had to purchase it because she was so passionate about seeing it.
I love the beginning of the movie where the two families insisted on getting to the New Year's Eve party and pushed their teen aged children into doing the same. Troy and Gabriella are two adorable nice kids that absolutely have a passion for life and love and really needed to find each other. Both kids are smart and respectful and take responsibility for their actions. They are a great influence for other kids which is nice to see and have fun making others happy.

Decent Storyline with some Good Morals to back it up.
The story is about a Basketball Player and an Intelligent Singer who meet at a ski resort and end up singing together and creating some sparks. The girl Gabriella later moves to Troy's High School. The songs and dances are really fun to watch and I enjoyed the bulk of the movie. The plot isn't as deep as you might want if your an adult... One of the reasons why I loved Newsies so much... But it is a Disney Channel Original.
The lessons kids can learn from the movie are great... That you should do whatever you love and not be forced into doing sports or anything else by your parents, friends, etc... Basically, it brings up a point that we all try to teach the generation to come... "Be Yourself"
If you are a "So you think you can dance" or "dancing with the stars" fan then you will be pleased to know that a few of the dancers are also in High School Musical. Alison Holker from SYTYCD Season 2 is seen dancing as a cheerleader in a few scenes, and Monique Coleman from DWTS plays an academic overachiever. There is the blonde girl from suite life of zack and cody who plays a snotty drama queen but I wish there would have been some type of deserving finish to her part in the movie like something falling on her or her getting hit by a bus (Mean Girls Reference)
Well, I enjoyed this movie, and my girlfriend loved it... And we are both 20 years old without kids... So I imagine this one is a movie for everyone..

A great movie for children!
The entire High School Musical series is fantastic. My daughter loves the movies, music, dolls, books, and everything else related to HSM. The characters are good role models, I often say it's like Grease without the smoking, drinking, and sex. My daughter will be 5 in less then a month and we are, of course, having a HSM birthday party. I'm stocking up with low priced versions of the first movie to hand out to the kids who haven't seen it, they're going to love it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
Not as good as expected
I watched this when it was on The Disney Channel. I am glad I did because it saved me from wasting the money to purchase it.
It isn't like it is the worst movie ever made though. However, if you ever watch the line-up of pre-teen shows on Disney, then acting is about the same as on Hannah Montana. However, at least with Hannah Montana you can see a different show each time. My Grand-daughter usually enjoys any movie with a lot of singing and dancing but this one didn't hold her attention at all.
I don't agree with any comparison of this to a g-rated GREASE. The only way they are similar at all is in that they both take place in school and they are both musicals. Okay, if you want to nit-pick, they do both involve a love story line between a boy and a girl (what movie doesn't anymore) in which each person's friends do not approve of the other.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
Great Entertainment for Teens and Tweens
After hearing my children tell me for weeks when the High School Musical DVD was going to be released, I decided to preorder it for them so we wouldn't have to run around to stores on the Tuesday it came out. The video they had taped from the Disney Channel had all but worn out from over use and I knew at any price we would get our money's worth. The songs are actually quite catchy and the special features showing how to do the dance moves yourselves get my 2 coach potatoes off their rear ends and into the music. They practice the dance routines long after the movie has ended. My 2 children are 2 years apart 1 boy and 1 girl, and NEVER agree on anything - and yet they'll both jointly decide to watch this particular movie together. It's a mother's dream come true!
