30 AWSOME Minutes!

If you are a fan of the original Gunstar or like games like Contra or Metal Slug and own a Gamboy Advance or a DS then Superheros is a must have. For starters the games graphics are fantastic, i'm not sure if their are any better on the GBA and their even pretty darn good for the DS. The Gameplay is fast and frantic and varied, dozens of enemies pack the screen at one time and the bosses are huge. It has 3 difficullty settings ranging from easy too hard so even if you are not a super hardcore skilled gamer you can play through the entire game but for those of you who like a brutal challenge it will provide one. Problems? Sure, it is way short, only six levels which if your good you will play through in about 30 minutes and I also felt that after the first couple of fantastic stages the level design broke down a bit and their became far too many gimiky stages when all I wanted was too run and gun but with that said it was still quite possibly 30 of the most fun most awsome minutes I have ever spent playing a game and I am still playing it because you can always play through the stages again too try too get a higher score. High Quality Game that's pretty short but very hard and very entertaining.

Gunstar Super Heroes is a sequel to the original Sega Genesis game: Gunstar Heroes. While it is a sequel, its also, almost, a retelling of the first game. Many of the stages are the same, level design, enemies, bosses, there are some new gameplay elements and altered stages but a good chunk of the game feels exactly like the original game, but now on a handheld.

Story
You play as Red or Blue and take orders from Yellow (look at the box art and you should tell who's who). Some empire wants to ressurect Golden Silver and destroy the world and needs 4 gems to do so. The heroes of the first game got the gems, lost them to the bad guys and powered up Golden Silver and it was defeated. Same exact deal here only the heroes are a new generation. The Empire wants to ressurect it and needs 4 gems to do so, you get the gems, lose them, then fight Golden Silver again. Hardly a story but oh well, a fast action game like this normally doesn't have a riveting story.

Gameplay

Both play exactly the same and have 3 weapons to choose from. 2 are the same but the 3rd is exclusive to the character. Melee/Jumping is done with 1 button and shooting with another. By holding up and jumping you do an uppercut jump attack. Press jump in the air, or with another direction and you do an aerial attack in that direction. Really simple control and its beautiful. Shooting done with another button and you can fire in 8 directions. Also beautiful. There are explosions everywhere and tons of enemies to gun down and melee your way through and its a blast the whole time.

There are only 5 levels. Intro Stage, 4 Gem levels, and Final Stage. But you will die. A lot. There different shooting styles like in the first game which gives you control options and 3 difficulties to select though so take your time going through the stages but it is a challenging game for the most part. You have a numerical life counter and if it hits zero, game over, start that stage all over again. There are only 5 stages so being sent back to the beginning of the stage is a fair punishment I find. The levels aren't super long but short to medium length bursts of hardcore action.

Gunstar Heroes (GH) vs. Gunstar Super Heroes (GSH)
GH had better weaponry options. There were 4 weapons in GH; Force (Machine Gun), Chaser (Homing shots) Lightning (Went through enemies to hit more behind) and Fire (Shotgun) and you could carry 2 at once to combine their effects and that was AWESOME. Though this meant you had to find the power ups in the field and exchange em in the heat of battle if you wanted something new. Not a big deal though. GSH however only has 3 weapons Chaser, Fire, and Red gets Force, and Blue gets Lightning. However in this each weapon has a Super weapon that you can activate when the weapon gauge has energy in it to unleash a very large and more powerful version of the attack.
GH Characters were pretty bland but GSH characters were more fleshed out and had more character to them. Wasn't much but it was better in GSH.

Overall
This game is awesome and is a definitely good add for any GBA library. Its short, but pretty damn hard at times but still very fun to play. With 3 difficulty settings you can easily up the ante when you're ready to have a really good time on harder difficulties.
Great game, you chould definitely get it if its up your alley, or pretty cheap. Its much easier than Contra games I'd say since you don't die in 1 hit but it can still be hard and awesome~Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Super heroes, small title

I really do enjoy this game, it's a good follow up on the original Sega Genisis game. There's a lot of solid action and it's not something that you'll play once and forget about, you will return to it several times. It's got two different playable characters and three levels of difficulty for each, and it can be challening on the easiest setting.
My Big problem with it is that it is so short. There are only six levels and each of those are about 10 mins of play time on normal. The levels are very diverse and interesting but they could have strecthed the game out a little longer I feel.
All in all a fun game that can keep you occupied for some time. Something good to do if you have 10-20 minutes to waste or are in a car ride or something. It does what it promises and is probably one of the more interesting side scrollers on the GBAVollständige Rezension lesen...

Great game. Will not dissapoint

I loved Gunstar Heros on the Genesis, so I wondered if this new "SUPER" version could hold up to its predecessor's glory. I pleased to say it did not disippoint. They even have a little intro talking about the original gunstar team. Awesome. I'm one for flashback sequences...especially when I can remember the original. GUNSTAR SUPER HEROES SHOULD GET A REBOOT FOR THE NINTENDO SWITCH! 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS!

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the original Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis. I didn't think that they could ever top that game! But GUNSTAR SUPER HEROES for the Gameboy Advance is even way better than the first game! The top-notch graphics, the cool music, the sweet animation and the fun character designs for this fantastic game are just phenomenal! A benchmark in the 2d "run and gun" games, def 1 of the best @D games

Best portable shooter hands down! The ex Konami team has done it again. I remember this being a $3 game used at local game shops and now its steadily on the rise as gamers broaden their pallet and thirst for grade A top tier 2D action. The controls are fluid and animation simply amazing. The 1st boss is testament to Treasures commitment to exploit a systems potential. I would gripe or degrade the game for the lack of two players but since the memory for GBA games is so limited we are incredibly lucky to have this. A great shooter

I bought it because I loved the original and I love the GBA platform. It's a great game, quite short, but with unlimited "pick up and play" potential.
