Excellent add-on for non-nfc/non-bluetooth speakers

simple to plug in. you need a usb 'mains' supply.
easy to set up using the Google Home chromecast 'app'.
Simple way to enable wi-fi audio in your household.
Does not add much if you already have nfc/bluetooth 'speaker bars' as the casting is already built in.
However, it really comes into its own by bringing your speakers into the 'ok google' google assistant world.

it's a 'no brainer' if you have a decent set of speakers or an amplifier that is not already bluetooth or wifi connected.

Confusing set up - can be made to work - just about

I guess the clue is the phrase "for Chromecast". I didn't get it when I bought it, but I understand now. It have a Chromecast and this thing works nothing like it.

Firstly you have to set up a mini-Wifi access point. Non-techies would struggle with this concept of setting up a WiFi network within a home WiFi network. (The instructions that come in the box are very very poor in clarity and in minute print size.) Once this is done, you have to manually switch between Miracast and DLNA mode - it isn't clear when you would pick one over the other or why.

I couldn't figure out the DLNA - I have a media server on my network and it never appeared.

With Miracast, the Streamer will mirror the Android device I was using - but it did not "cast" through Apps. First you have to disconnect from the 'normal' WiFi and connect to the Streamer WiFi. When it connects you have to make your phone/tablet cast to the detected WiFi AP (the Streamer). If you are lucky it should connect and your screen should then be cast to your TV.

Once that happens you should be able to see anything on your phone on the TV. It's not elegant but it does work and the lag/performance is not too bad.

Low cost, but high quality device to stream audio

I bought three of these to provide multiroom streaming of both internet radio and a DLNA feed of my own music collection. They do these tasks fantastically well and would doubtless stream an Online music subscription service just as well, (if I wanted to pay for that).
The choice of 3.5mm, RCA or optical connections gave me the flexibility to add the Chromecasts to different generations of music systems, including a 25 year old HiFi amplifier, giving it a new lease of life. I'm thinking about buying a fourth to use on my bluetooth speaker in the garden.
Highly recommended.

Great bit of kit

I am an OAP and I used it to play music etc on my old (non Bluetooth, non WiFi) amplifier and speakers. It is really great to be able to play music.etc.through my beloved amp again. The sound is first class. The item itself is very small but powerful. The cost is negligible compared to having to buy new kit and having the amp gather dust in a corner. I am disappointed that I cannot stream my Audible books but I know that is a technical issue with DRM .Other than that I really am delighted. You can teach old dogs new tricks!. I am sorry that Google have ceased producing this as many others in my situation would benefit by knowing of its existence and availability.I am delighted that I was able to buy the Chromecast Audio from this seller. It was delivered very promptlyVollständige Rezension lesen...

Excellent «old tech»

For some reason Google decided to cancel this audio streaming device. I learned this just as I read about this exciting device. It turns out this is the device I really needed but don't know existed. Now, we can all stream music with a regular Google Chromecast and I recently bought the brand new version with remote controll and Google TV. But everything is connected with HDMI which means that my television set have to be turned on while listening to music. The Chromecast Audio connects directly to the HIFI amplifier with an optical cable (which was included in my purchase). Setting it up with the Google Home app were just as forward and easy as just about every other Google device. The sound is amazing. I don't know what the retail price were for this device but it's said the DACC inside the thing is more than than you'd expect from a device like this. I don't disagree. As long as my amplifier is turned on I can tell the Google Nest Mini on my wall to play a song or an album and the playback is controlled by the Chromecast Audio. I really recommend this product to any audio enthusiasts out there. Hopefully Google bring this device back as it's quite unique. Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Why did Google stop making such a great bit of kit?

Chromecast Audio was such a clever idea. Great music streaming for those of us who use it a little or a lot. Mine are connected to conventional hi Fi separates and are so simple to set up and use. Sadly they do not last forever and crazily Google stopped making them!

There is no real substitute at the same price so when I needed a replacement eBay was the only source. My new one is excellent but cost double the original price...... supply and demand!

eBay worked but beware of delivery firms who leave packages on your doorstep when you are out Insist on using Royal Mail.

Works Well - once set up

I needed a streaming dongle to stream music from my PC to hifi and judging by all the positive reviews, I opted for the Google Chromecast Audio. I also ordered a 3.5mm to Phono lead to connect into the amp. I found it a bit of a faff when using my tablet to set up the dongle as the App would just freeze - or so I thought. I left it a while (10-mins) and on my return the setup had completed. Streaming from my PC was another problem as it didn't 'see' the dongle on the network. Searching the Internet revealed it was a known problem but offered little in the way of how to overcome it. Luckily I later came across a blog who suggested using BubbleUPnP. Installing this solved the problem. I can now stream music from windows media player without any problems and the sound quality is excellent.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Surprisingly brilliant

I wasn't expecting a great deal from the CCA at the price, but I've been impressed with its performance, both technically and in regard to the audio quality. It's a doddle to set up, you can easily cast to it from Spotify and Tidal from phone, tablet or iPad, and it sounds surprisingly good (as long as you remember to turn on the full dynamic range setting in the settings menu). It streams reliably (over wifi too) and I've not had any problems with dropouts or noise. It just works - well done Google!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great way to update old stereo

Product came as described. The only thing I would say is that (my fault entirely) I didn't check that I had a headphone jack input (the only cable type it comes with unless you buy the optical cable) at the back of my stereo (oldish Yamaha) so had to use phono to jack cable for this to work. Connected to my wifi and google home very easily. Sound quality is great! Awesome being able to use Google assistant with Google play music for all my music needs without having to buy a new unit.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Brilliant little device, that will only get better with adoption

Brilliantbkittle device for converting a Bluetooth speaker or a Hifi into a streaming system. Much better than Bluetooth as it streams directly from online, so you don't lose signal if you take your phone out of the room. Digital output means it is equally at home in any HiFi and limited only by the quality of the source and the DAC in the HiFi itself, though the built in DAC is already very good if you just want to use the 3.3mm audio jack. Chromecast ability to stream directly from source gives it an advantage over airplay and Bluetooth apt and means it is likely to be adopted as a standard. Naim have already committed to using it in their future streamers (savings you buying this dongle )Vollständige Rezension lesen...
