A lot for a little

I got this as a reconditioned unit to carry in the car we tow behind a motorhome - the motorhome has the main Garmin, this was just a little add-on. However, I soon found this updated software (and more current map database) to be highly attractive. Couple of problems: I like to have both the direction of travel and the time to arrive shown on the screen, with this unit it seems to be an either/or. However, the automatic rerouting due to traffic problems is utterly amazing. It saved me significant time during a slow-down in Pittsburgh (by taking me off-highway and via residential streets). I got the unit with a bean-bag mount. While this was just great (so could put it under the front seat when parking to reduce theft), the suction cup was less satisfactory than the mechanical mount my old Garmin has (had to re-suck every few days). Very easy to use and reasonably accurate. However, this unit does NOT have the ability to know if you're in a car, a bus, a truck, or a large RV...shame on Garmin for taking that away. If you buy their truckers version, you get these features but you loose campgrounds and other points of interest and RV'er wants. So, taking the good with the bad, I'd give this an "average" rating. That said, for the few dollars I paid for it, I think I got a great value and I'm perfectly satisfied with this as a backup unit for our towed vehicle!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Larger screen

I guess it's all Yes but I'm having some issues getting it setup. Instructions aren't very helpful for me but perhaps it's my age. I'm still working on it and hope I soon figure it out. Once I do, then I will know if performance is reliable. I had a different brand several years ago and it was a little easier for me to use.

Thanks

Defective screen

The unit I recieved had a defective screen and it was difficult to enter an address. The touch screen was shifted to the left, so when you press say "w" on the qwerty keyboard, you get either nothing or you get "q". Only if you type on the extreme right of a letter you get it. Extremely annoying.
After talking to the seller, I re calibrated the screen and it fixed my problem. The touch screen is not very sensitive however and it is still not very easy to type.

On the side note, I had an older unit from garmin and the keyboard was bigger, even though the screen was smaller than on the 1350T. The reason is that they added more symbols and also number on the same screen. A big mistake in my opinion, this renders typing more cumbersome. The good new things is the picture of the lanes in the corner. This helps to understand the direction when you are driving on a road with multiple exits close to each other.
Another problem I have with this unit is the map. About 1/3 of the time, Garmin does not know the address I am typing in. And I live in Atlanta, Ga, not in the middle of nowhere. And the addresses I am typing are not new either. They really need to get that problem fixed.
Overall, I am disappointed with this product. My previous garmin was rather better. I would not recommend it unless you pay less than say $60 for it and you only use the GPS once in a while.

Great, simple to use unit for anyone new to GPS mapping

I bought a slightly used Garmin Nuvi 1350T unit here on eBay. For about $100, this is an excellent unit with clear, easy to follow directions and on-screen instructions, good turn by turn directions, and voice coaching at key trip turns.

I put it in my Chrysler 300 to test it out and measured the unit's accuracy compared to my $2000 built-in navigation system on the Chrysler. The Garmin was easier to use, more accurate on estimated time of arrivals, had a clearer set of voice coaching for turns and directions, and was very easy to follow.

The built-in tools and features are easy to navigate and may be helpful if you need additional storage capacity for pics and things. The 1350T unit I got came with lifetime map updates and an easy-mount window and dash suction cup-based stand, along with the 12v car power cord and usb cord for getting map updates via the internet.

This unit also has some neat features, like programmable options to use it as walking GPS unit, an option to let the unit know you wan to use it an airplane (when allowed), and economy modes for coaching you to be more efficient in your driving habits (fun scoring of how "green" you drive). These extra features make it very usable not just for driving, but also for orienteering, walking, boating, flying, or just goofing around. Add the fact that you can use this to help navigate public transit options and connections (in places like DC, NYC, SF, and Boston, this is very helpful I would imagine), this unit has something for everyone and can be used by whole family.

For the money, Consumer Reports ranks this as a best buy. For the new user, this is a great unit. Usage is really intuitive, easy, and there is not a steep learning curve to get basic functions up and running right out of the box.

Prices in October 2010 have been hovering around $175 for a new unit on ebay, with many good retail specials on new units for $130-$150 for the unit without the whole accessory pack or lifetime map updates. Used or reconditioned unit prices have been averaging $99-$135 for the same time period. The prices seem to be declining on this model as the newer units are being released.

I would not hesistate to recommend this unit for your family or friends who are technologically challenged- it is easy to use, has a nice wide display, and is user friendly. I would also recommend buying a unit package that includes the accessory pack- that way, you get everything that goes with your unit when you purchase it and do not have to pay separately (including shipping and handling fees) for the accessories you will eventually need anyway. The only negative is the battery life which is said to be 4-6 hours, but my unit has done better than that already (but I did have it hooked up to the cars 12v electrical system most of the time).

Garmin 1350T -- Very pleased with this GPS!

I am very pleased with the performance of this GPS system! It functions very well, there's no "lag" when detecting its location or calculating a destination. The Eco-route is a great feature! I really appreciate that it doesn't always formulate a route strictly on common roads...if it is more fuel efficient or shorter distance to drive "off the beaten path," it will direct you there; it is current and up-to-date on all roads which makes me confident when taking these kinds of routes. The system displays your speed as well as the posted speed limit. (I've tried to get clever and take it where speeds aren't posted or change quickly, and it truly does adjust instantly! and accurately!)
There is One thing (honestly only ONE thing) I am not a fan of... every once and a while I'll reach a destination, or even just pull into my garage, and an advertisement will show up in the upper right-hand corner. : for example - one I saw yesterday was for Best Western, mentioning extra bonus points for staying at one in the area. It doesn't cover the entire screen by any means; it's not overwhelming, but if I want to know about specials on local hotels, I'll do my own research.
I still rate this system Excellent and am very happy with the purchase, would definitely recommend it :) There may be a way to select an opt-out of those goofy adds ;)

So far so good! 1 month in....awesome unit!

I bought a Garmin 1300 last year but due to a jag off stealing it out of my car i decided to buy another Garmin, so i bought the 1350T after lots of research i found this unit by far is the best bang for your buck. lots of bells and whistles. I found out the hard way but FYI with out the cord it is only a 1350. your cord is where the T traffic comes into play and this feature is very cool! your Garmin will tell you were the traffic is heavy and gives you the choice to avoid that route and give you the next best way. saved me from sitting in 30 min of traffic. the speed limit feature is awesome your speed turns red when you speed and you get the speed limit sign on most roads not all, back roads etc. you do have to deal with pop ups from sponsorships for the "free" life time traffic, not a big deal for what your getting for "free" and it keeps you informed on whats new! just tap it if you don't want it up and hit the back button and its gone, again its worth it. up i'm hoping i don't get the "shut-off bug" that i had experienced with my 1300 i read many reviews and only saw a few people that had the issue with the 1350T. great GPS with many cool features. if i have any issues you all will know about it! please do the same.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great Unit

I have been using this 1350T for a couple of months now. It is clearly my favorite of the Garmin systems that I own.

First off, it acquires it's location in the time it takes to boot up. This is the fastest unit I have ever seen. There is zero waiting on it.

Secondly, the screen scrolls very smoothly. I always set mine up to show "track up" display. When turning a corner or going around a curve, this unit is very smooth and doesn't lag behind.

I haven't used the traffic feature as I don't often drive in covered areas. I can see where it would be very useful to folks in high traffic urban areas. It's always nice to know where the traffic may be backed up so you can re-route.

Everything you do with this 1350T is very fast. Even clearing a track from a 400 mile route is instantaneous. Scolling through the screens and setting up is fast and simple. It's a typical Garmin interface and it works quite well. You really don't have to search around for anything.

I couldn't be happier with the Nuvi 1350T.

Garvin nuvi 1350T GPS

This is my first GPS. I think the Garvin is AWESOME! I bought it because I'm taking a short vacation to a place I've never been to before. Been playing with it for a couple of weeks now and find the device very intuitive; which is a bonus. I use "Squirrely" as my voice narrative. My wife finds it cute and humorous. He also makes me smile at times. Setting a route is a breeze. "Getting lost" is now a thing of the past! Squirrely will always "Get us out of here". The accuracy of the device is amazing. There is an elliptical driveway where I live that is about 100 feet wide. Going "home" with Squirrely requires me to take the second right. Most days I take the first right to visit a friend. Squirrely recognizes that I have "missed" my turn by 100 feet and recalculates the route to my house which is only another 600 feet away! With such deadly accuracy: my nuvi 1350T gets you close enough to be within sight of your objective.
This is good technology. I can hardly wait for the generation that is voice activated and conversational as well. I'm sure Squirrely would make quite a character to entertain and help keep lone drivers more aware and possibly help keep tired drivers awake on long trips. At some point I predict that Squirrely will even have enough "AI" to talk sleepy drivers into taking a rest break and even save lives.

Garmin nuvi 1350T GPS

This was a great experience dealing with this seller.yumelectronics
The GPS arrived with the motorcycle mount kit that I ordered seperatly but was missing the carying case.
I contacted the seller after I'd given a positive feedback not realising that the case was missing.
The seller ``yumelectronics `` came thrue and sent me the case the same day.

The minute I used this GPS, it was as if I had used it many times. It is simple to use.
The talking feature will tell you where to go and the screen will show you all the important information that you need to get there. Name of street and directions, distance and arrival time.
I had a two hour drive to get to my destination and it gave me the exact arrival time to the minute as to my arrival in the parking lot.
There is absolutly nothing wrong I can say about this GPS. All upgrades are free for the next 60 days after purchace from Garmin. A+

Excellent GPS

The Garmin nuvi 1350T is my first GPS. I purchased it because I plan on doing a lot of driving back in the eastern U.S. late this spring. I've been testing the Garmin and needless to say I'm very impressed. The display unit is easy to use. Entering a destination takes seconds. In traffic, if you miss a turn for any reason, the Garmin will recalculate the route in 5 seconds - not tell you to do a U-turn. The Garmin website offers plenty of support, plus extra downloads. As a first time GPS user I could find no faults with the Garmin product and consider myself most fortunate that my first GPS is such an excellent product.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
