An affordable way to drive with confidence in unfamiliar areas

I had to drive a truck for work a couple of weeks ago and my boss loaned me her Garmin nuvi 1300 to get to my various delivery destinations. I had never driven with a GPS before and it was a true revelation. I never got lost, even when I had to deviate from the prescribed course because of unexpected traffic conditions. I've never had an easier time driving in unfamiliar places. I was so impressed with it, I bought one for myself.

The touch screen interface, which is very similar to a smart phone, is very intuitive and easy to use, even without reading the owner's manual. My only real complaints are the touch screen needs to be a bit more responsive and the maps take too long to load. This latter problem seems to be more pronounced in my unit than my boss's.

One should be aware that while this GPS unit will get you there, it doesn't always pick the easiest route. On one of my truck trips for work, the unit directed me through town with lots of traffic and traffic lights when I could have taken a bypass and gotten off right at my destination. Another time, it directed me to make a right turn where it was impossible because the road was divided by a grass median.

The 1300T is supposed to give real time traffic reports, but that feature doesn't seem to be working on mine.

So why would one even consider buying a dedicated GPS instead of using the GPS function in a smart phone? The answer is actually pretty simple. The Garmin's screen is brighter, more easily readable, and stays on continuously, while my Android smart phone's screen is dim under the best of circumstances and goes out after a few minutes to save power, leaving me with only audio prompts.

If you're looking at used ones, you'd do well to get one with lifetime map updates (1300LM) as a la carte map updates aren't cheap.

If you find yourself frequently driving in unfamiliar areas or you just don't have a good built-in sense of direction, the Garmin nuvi 1300 can be a welcome companion on the road.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Very good GPS, and a good value.

I bought this receiver basically because I have a car without GPS built in and wanted something for trips or to find places in my area that I am not familiar with. This does the job. It has a nice screen, it is very easy to use and I bought it used at a good price, so I feel that I got my money's worth. What would make it a little better is to get one with free lifetime maps (I do have lifetime traffic though) and a better battery life (mine was used, so maybe the new ones last longer without being attached to a power source?).

Nice simple NAV system.

Great easy to use GPS great value awesome product an seller.

I love the 1300t gps. It gives me precise directions both by view and voice to places I have no trouble getting to where I want to go. The points of interest mode is especially impressive, in that I can select-for example-restaurants and then the type of food and then select from a list of restaurants in that area. Fun to use Garmin GPS

This is my first GPS unit for a car. It works really well. It did not come with instructions. Just a power cord to plug into the 12v car power plug. It powers on and locks on the satellites quickly and knows exactly where you are. It has clear audio commands to tell you what to do to get to your destination. nice GPS with some cool features

I like the Traffic option (free in the US).
Although, it's not possible to browse the map and see the traffic (like google maps for example). The screen is wide and it's easy to follow the indications.

Garmin nuvi 1300T

Garmin is a good brand name, especially their wonderful after-sale support, if you need it. The product is functioning well as expected. The screen is bright and the image almost perfect. Garmin is known for the ease of use or user friendly. I did not like the bulky car charger cable. The item was just what I wanted and expected.
It is fully functional and mounted right onto my vehicle without any problems.

A great tool for traveling to new or unfamiliar destinations

It's great. Inexpensive. This model is an upgrade to an older 1300 in that this one calls the street names. That's the only upgrade that I felt was needed to the old Garmin. Now I got it. ** I don't need it to go back and forth to work, so I don't need it on my dashboard. ** It's an invaluable tool when you travel around the country or to a new destination (like the right left left left right left left right right left left... destinations in pocket communities in Miami)
