Garmin Drive 51 LM US Automotive Mountable

Light, easy to read, and quality Garmin.

This is my third Garmin and no problem with any of them (daughter, wife, and mine). No reason to buy another brand. I just needed one with a bigger screen and this one fits the bill.

Horrible Battery Life, May be Used or Old battery, Maps doesn't show most of the addresses/landmarks, Very low confidence if this would last long

- The battery life is really bad. It dies in few mins in spite of muting the device. Basically this device has to be always plugged into the power socket or else it switches off.
- Maps doesn't show most of the addresses/landmarks

Can't go wrong with Garmin

I also have the 61 LMT-S which has a much larger screen. The 51 replaced an old TomTom XL. The only issue with both Garmins is the battery is only good for about 1 minute. The TomTom's battery will last 1-2 hrs, even with an old battery.

It Does NOT Have Voice Command

The Garmin Drive 51 LM GPS Navigator with Driver Alerts - USA works great, except it just does NOT have voice command. Every address has to be found manually. If you are looking for a specific restaurant, or grocery store, you can't just say the name - you must hit category and then search by scrolling for what you want.
We will continue to use our old GPS in our new car as it has voice command. We'll use this in our other vehicle.

A mixed bag so far

This Garmin, Drive 55, is more responsive and seems to navigate better than my Garmin Nuvi 55. However, it regularly goes to a Garmin Express screen when plugged into the car charger instead of navigating. Hopefully, Garmin can provide a resolution. Very Nice for the price!

Setting it up was difficult as it did not want to download the maps properly. Garmin helped out and it took a couple of hours over 2 evenings to get it set right. Big screen, clear voice and easy to type in the address compare to older model.

Not what I was hoping for.

I had the Garmin Nuvi 50, it had the large MPH speedometer and was easy to read. The 51 does not have that. I am a senior citizen, so easy to read in so important. I only purchased for the speedometer for my motorcycle, it was a big flop. Map was a split sceen too, not good for people who have sight problems.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Easy to use and see

Prefer the Garmin over the cell phone. Very accurate, easy to use and much bigger than the phone so it is easy to see. Shows speed limits and with the settings it will warn you that a speed limit is reducing. Vollständige Rezension lesen

Worked perfectly

A definite upgrade from my old Garmin nuvi. The only issue is the Garmin assumes you have the electronic toll pass for any state your traveling through and directs you to enter the express lanes. Also, one key exit was exclusive for the state's electronic toll pass holders and Garmin couldn't provide an alternative route. I avoided a huge fine by bypassing that interstate exit and traveling 7 miles to the next exit and asking the toll booth operative for directions to a different route (computers will never completely replace humans). Eventually Garmin picked up on the new route and I made it to my destination. I also wish the female voice for the Garmin was louder.
