Funny People is a better movie than it got credit for. It's one of the few movies about stand-up that understands that world in a lot of ways: the competition, the way jokes are written and routines are slowly created, the way you'd kill for some stage time only to be bumped by someone who doesn't need (or deserve) it. It respects the past while embracing the present. It's funny, dark and moving. It's terrific.

Adam Sandler stars as George Simmons, a hugely famous comedian and movie star who's just been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. He enlists a hungry up-and-coming stand-up named Ira (a winning Seth Rogen) as his joke writer and assistant, and together the two navigate the L.A. comedy scene as George faces the end of his life. Then, just when he's made peace with his fate and tried to strike up a relationship with the girl that got away (Leslie Mann, Apatow's real-life wife), George finds out his condition has improved and he's not going to die after all. Fantastic movie - Apatow does it again

I love Judd Apatow's movies with all my heart. They're extremely funny, very real to life, and just plain enjoyable. They always contain something that anyone can relate to. Funny People is no exception. It's definitely no 40 Year Old Virgin or Knocked Up as far as crude humor or constant hilarity goes, but in a movie sense, it's almost better than the 2 previously stated. It's both a drama and a comedy, because it deals with Adam Sandler coping with the sudden knowledge that he has a rare type of cancer, and the friendship he gradually gains with Seth Rogen along the way. A majority of the comedy comes from all of the main characters (Sandler, Rogen, and Hill) portraying stand-up comedians. And what else would you expect from Judd Apatow, Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Jonah Hill except a pretty funny movie? A lot of bad reviews for this movie are coming from people thinking it's going to be your normal crude Apatow picture, and it's not. Go into knowing that it's basically a drama, with a truckload of funny lines and interactions thrown in. As always Apatow's wife Leslie Mann is in it along with his 2 daughters, Iris and Maude. It's also fairly long clocking in at about 2 1/2 hours and sometimes seems like it drags on a bit, but it's nothing to worry about. To conclude my review, if you're a fan of any of Judd Apatow's previous movies, or if you like watching a good comedy/drama, then you must check out Funny People. Funny and Thought Provoking movie

Anyone who has seen Judd Apatow's two previous movies (40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up) would go into this movie expecting it to be funny and sorrowful at the same time.
And with a cast including Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza, Aziz Ansari, Iris Apatow, Maude Apatow, and Seth Rogen you know this movie is going to be funny and it does not disappoint.

Sandler is outstanding in this movie as he plays a comedian who finds out he has a rare type of cancer. His friendship with Rogen grows after that and the movie takes off from there.

This movie is very thought provoking and at times very funny.

If your looking for a good movie that warms the heart and makes you laugh at the same time, this is it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Funny People

Anything with Adam Sandler in it is supposed to be funny. This however, just, well, wasn't. I really do believe that this movie had potential, but there was so much going on, so many stories within the story, that they could have made 3 movies out of it.

It's 2 and a half hours long. That's about an hour and a half too long for the main story plot. This movie honestly seemed longer than Titanic, or Gone With The Wind because it is so long and drawn out.

There is very little humor in Funny People. The only good thing about it is all the major stars that pop up here and there, which is probably why, in my opinion at least, that this movie even made it to the big screen and didn't go straight to DVD.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great movies

This was a great movie love Adam Sandler but was not as silly as his other films usually are! One of my favoritisms

Dry Humor! if Any...

Oh this movie...seemed so long for a plot that was so week! Guy might die so he looks at life differently for a split second, you start feeling sorry for him then all of a sudden his illness is gone, and thats great- but you'd be left thinking "huh" ?? You think he will definately win the girl back in the end, but wrong again...and he's back to where he started, being alone! he does gain a friend throughout the show...which is probably what the movie is about all along; friendship and not true love.
The humor was dry, not really funny- I think I laughed a couple of times maybe...I do LOVE adam sandler, but for me this movie flopped! Not something I would pull out and watch again, really.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Funny People

George is a very successful stand up comedian who learns that he has an untreatable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live. Ira is a struggling up-and-coming stand up comedian who works at a deli and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One night, these two perform at the same club and George takes notice of Ira. George hires Ira to be his semi-personal assistant as well as his friend. The first hour and a half was fairly entertaining. The tempo of the movie goes from snappy to outright boring and annoying.
