Once Upon a Time in China...

Where to begin? This game is excellent, but it has it's faults. The greatest thing about this game is, naturally, being able to take a one-man army (or one-woman army) into historical battlefields in China during the Three Kingdoms period and being able to change the entire course of the battle through your actions. This, of course, means lots of killing one guy and his 10,000,000 clone brothers. I cannot comprehend how this is so boring to me and yet so addictive and fun. I personally feel compelled to play through with each character, level up their weapons all the way, unlock all of their costumes, all the equipable items, harnesses, and orbs, and discover every unlockable single level. This game is ADDICTIVE, yet has some important flaws.

Flaw-wise (if there is such a word), this game, like the previous installments, has the same type of gameplay, which, mind you, is fine as long as they make improvements on the flow of the gameplay. I'll be honest- I have not played DW2 or DW3, but I have played DW5 and I personally liked DW4 better. However, DW4 has a smaller scale battlefield- which makes getting around easier since the player-controlled character determines how the battle goes. Also, DW5 differs in that each character has a story, which determines which battles they participate in, and it also provides perspective from each character (if you care about story in a game about wiping out thousands of soldiers with one guy/gal). Other than that DW4 has pretty good graphics (I'd say on par with Devil May Cry, if you can compare those in terms of graphics), but the game does slow down if there are too many soldiers on the screen, which happens often, but not often enough to lessen the experience. If anything, the lag is welcome if you find yourself surrounded by enemies and you need a "Matrix" moment to regain control of battle. The music is a rock/metal mix, and it does wear on the nerves if you play it alot. One more bad point is the character creation mode- it only offers you three choices for four categories: 3 for head, 3 for chest, 3 for torso, 3 for leg guards. Plus, you only have a choice of around 12-14 different weapons modeled after the original characters. This needed improvement, but was scrapped in DW5.

On the up-side, the gameplay is solid, the character selection is wide (40+), stage selection is wide (50+), and the voice acting is actually pretty good despite some being very annoying, and some having questionability (How come Jiang Wei has a Chinese accent and no one else does?!). Other than that, no complaints. The real attraction to this game is definitely REPLAY VALUE- this game has lots of characters with lots of weapons, lots of unlockables, lots of stages, and lots of stories (even if they are historically inaccurate, WHO CARES?!).

Bottom line: Play this game if you like having the opportunity to play many characters, play many different stages... alot, and kill many of the same soldier. If you hate repetitiveness, then this game will get old fast. I recommend that you rent it first (if possible), then make the purchase if you like it.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Simple but very fun!

It's a PS2 game...if you aren't into older games then this one isn't for you. I play this one somewhat for nostalgia but also just because it's a simple game with enough to do and think about.

Can't stand how these modern day games ask you for your entire life...Dynasty Warriors 4 is a perfect amount of story, RPG elements, and gameplay. It's a great way to veg out on the weekends!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

overall, the cd itself is the best

before this i already had a second hand disc of dynasty warriors 4 but i couldnt even hear any music when i go to certain battles, recently i had tried to play it again because i have unfinished business with it but the disc was not reading at all. was nervous buying it through ebay but worth trying and it was! i can now make progress through the game more effectively, thank youuVollständige Rezension lesen...

Great Dynasty Warriors Entry !

I've been playing Dynasty Warriors 4 since it was released back in like...2004 I think?
It is a perfect entry in the series.

Dynasty Warriors 4

Dynasty Warriors 4 is... well, the 4th game in Koei's hack-n-slash series Dynasty Warriors.

The game puts you into the role of a legendary Chinese warrior of your choice, and drops you into the Three Kingdoms era, having you re-enact famous battles.

The three kingdoms of Wei, Wu, and Shu don't have very many characters to choose from at first, but once you begin to play Musou Mode, you can unlock characters fairly quickly, including Lu Bu, the strongest character in the game.

The basic premise of the game is the same as the ones in the past. Tear through the opposing force and slay its commander. The number of kills you get and defeating officers factors into the exp. points you get after the battle is over, helping you to level up and become stronger, and also levelling up your weapon so that you can do more hits and more damage.

The game also has many cutscenes, which mostly play before and during battle. One of these introduces you to the duel feature.

An enemy officer will challenge you to a duel. You can choose whether or not to accept. Accepting the duel will take you and your opponent off the battlefield and into a special duel arena. Your only goal here is to defeat your opponent, which can be pretty hard at times, depending on who you are facing off with.

The game's music is a good mix of rock and more traditional music. A few of the tracks might get annoying if you play on the same stage for a long time, but other than that you will enjoy them.

The graphics sometimes leave something to be desired, but they are overall pretty good. An example would be, after you defeat an enemy general and they fall to the ground dead, the ground jumps beneath them. This is really the only glitching that I have seen.

Overall I give this game a 9.5 because it is a very good game and has great entertainment value, it just falls a bit short in a couple of areas.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
