Can't beat this Value

Certainly its no professional camera. Its body is mostly plastic and unsealed. It only shoots bursts at about 4fps. Its autofocus won't handle low light exceptionally well.

BUT

To get all those things you will need to likely spend much more than the Elan 7/7E. For some reason this camera hasn't held its resale value very well and can be had for under $100 easily. Compared to the the EOS 3 and definitely the EOS 1V it is a bargain. And for most photography enthusiasts that want a reliable modern film camera to occasionally shoot film on, its the perfect answer. I love my classic cameras and am an avid collector, shooting often on cameras from the 60s and 70s, but if I'm going to go shooting an need to know that I'm going to get consistent reliable results, I'm going to bring this camera in my bag. As one of the last film cameras to be marketed to the high end amateur,it comes with enough technology and quality to be a great camera with little need to worry about major system failures for a good while.

If I have one major gripe, its the VERY frustrating experience of using manual lenses on this body. Like most amateurs, I have a large collection of old manual lenses that I adapt to EOS mounts to expand my range of lenses. However on the Elan 7/7E you're metering results will be erratically off by up to 3.5 stops. I still can't figure out exactly why this is, but its frustrating having to pull out my light meter any time I want to use a manual lens.

That aside, theres really nothing I can complain about when it comes to this camera, for such a reasonable price you really do get a great little 35mm SLR that you can count on when it matters.

High level film camera to get professional results

I choose to shoot film since i can obtain similar results to high end DSLRs by scanning films and applying post processing. Canon EOS Elan 7e is a very capable camera. It's exposure metering, flash metering and autofocusing abilities are very sophisticated. All of the buttons, dials and knobs are at very correct places. Just after a short while of adaptation this camera has become a part of my body especially when the Canon specific 7 point Eye Control System (ECS) that allows the AF system to focus at one of the seven cleverely chosen points within the viewfinder just by looking at that one. I often use mirror lock up for my macro work and this professional feature is available in this camera. If you have time and patience to scan and do post processing, this camera is guaranteed to offer you nothing less than the most sophisticated DSLRs at a very resonable price provided that your choice of lens is sharp and film is fresh.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Older film camera that is remarkable in its quality

I bought this camera because I began taking a beginners film class. I have an older film camera, but it does not use my existing DSLR lenses, this Canon EOS Elan 7e 35 mm SLR film camera does. That alone would be one reason to buy it. I thought it would be dinged up and broken, but this camera was basically new but without the box. Once I figured out how to put the batteries in, really brainer there, it worked like a charm. All my lenses, even my quirky lensbaby lenses work on this. And once I used my meter with it, my photos were great! I love it and would buy from this seller again! This is a quality product and is more than advertised!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

I Love this camera!!

It's easy to use, and with all the extra features it is lots of fun!! Great pictures! For even better results I recomend taking digital photography course. You will really learn what this baby can do!!!
Amazing close-ups, overlaping, snow enanced shooting, sunsets, night sky or fireworks and so much more. And with some basic accessories you can take profesional quality pictures and posters, the fun will never end.
Enjoy...

Most of the reviews below are for a different camera.

It seems like all the reviews are for the Canon EOS 7e rather than the Elan. They are entirely different cameras with the 7e being much newer. The Canon Elan is the quietest SLR that I have ever owned. The shutter barely makes a noise. The only way to get a quieter shutter is to buy a rangefinder. The features for the camera are prosumer. It has a lot of great features (no eye control) allowing the user to shoot it in manual mode, aperture priority, shutter priority, full program, etc. Double exposures are easy to do with this camera, making it a lot of fun. Canon Elan 7e

Everything works fine it's just the eye focus function isn't as good as my old one. Could just need to be cleaned or something.

First roll being tested

Shooting first roll and I find with ISO 400, I can shoot from wide open to fully shut down with the kit zooms, in bright sunlight.

All works according to the manual.

One of the best photographic deals for the money.

A very nice camera if you are still into, or looking to get into, film photography. The eye controlled focusing is quick and accurate. (in this mode, it focuses where you are looking, no more camera focusing on the wrong part of the scene.). Best of all, the lenses for this camera will work with the current digital Canon SLRs, and most of the current lenses will work with this camera. (Except those limited to the smaller APC sensors.). Not to mention that film is still much higher resolution than any camera that doesn't thousands od dollars.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great Camera

I'm a photography student and I needed a film camera to shoot B&W for this semester. I found the Elan 7e and this camera is great. The features and ease of use are top notch and all my prints have been impeccable. I would recommend this camera to anyone interested in shooting film. You won't be disappointed.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
