BIG step up from 7D

I was leary on this purchase because I have the 7D already and new features did not seem worth the extra spending. I did it anyway and it was well worth it! Compared to the 5Diii it has more features, not full frame, but still more features is more features and for MOST the image quality is very comparable! If your looking to enter photo contests and an avid photo hobbiest you cant go wrong! It would work well for weddings also, it's GREAT in low light, super fast at 10fps and very sturdy built. Also dust and moisture resistant. I am not a professional, although I have sold some of my photos, but for a crop apc sized sensor, this thing does the job very well. It also has dual digic6 processors while the 5D only has one digic5! So, for the money, this is the best camera you can buy in my opinion! Do yourself a favor and get one today! The money you save will be great for some nice new lenses. (or lens)Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Best DSLR I've owned

With it's extreme ISO range (from ISO 100 to 16,000 "native"), the 65 focus points - all cross-type, it's dual card storage and rugged, water resistant titanium body, this is the junior version of the Canon flagship 1DX. I've been using DSLRs professionally since 2001, up to and including the 5D MKII, and am so glad I chose this over the 5D MKIII. It's an extraordinary camera body.

I currently have 4 Canon bodies I use for work, and have sold or given away 4 more, and this one is THE keeper. I'd seriously consider changing to all 7D MKII bodies if I didn't need full frame, too. I just don't want to drop $7,000 for the 1DX.

Do be aware the 7D MKII is an APS-C, or "crop" sensor, which will take all Canon EF and EF-S lenses (and other makes, of course), but will seem to multiply an EF lens's focal length by 1.6, so your 50mm lens becomes essentially like an 80mm. That's a huge oversimplification, but is the effective result.

Boosted my photo skills ... finally!

If you have been shooting with a D60 or a T4i or one of the many consumer cameras then you won't regret upgrading to a Canon 7D Mark II. This monster 20mp camera delivers an instant boost in image quality over my old T4i using the same lenses and same AV mode. And the extras in the 6th Avenue Photo kit made this a very sweet deal.

The 7D Mark II is the 4th down in the list of Canon's best cameras; the 1D is the pro camera at the top, followed by the 5D and the 6D. You can find plenty of reviews and comparisons on the Net to help you shop, but the main draw of the 7D is the price. The 7D is has a less expensive crop-sensor, the others are all full-frame 35mm. This means a tighter field of view, but IMO, this is offset by a significantly longer reach with your telephoto lenses. A 200mm lens effectively becomes a 320. Nice.

If you use top-quality lenses the photos are outstanding - equal to pro. You should be prepared to invest in better lenses if you are using the cheaper kit versions. Do your research, watch eBay and Craigslist and start stacking nickels ... you will be paying 500 to 1700 for good used L-glass, Canon's best (2015).

The hard part is the camera learning curve. The menus are extensive so the initial setup is laborious ... you must learn about each feature before choosing a setting. I recommend using a paid tutorial that offers recommended settings for various shooting styles and helps you get to know all the camera features.

Besides the menus you also must learn the controls - the 7D has 30 different buttons and dials! Many are dual-purpose and some can also be re-programmed to suit your personal preferences. Also, the new 65-point Auto Focus system takes some getting used to. The 7D versatility is excellent for setting up great shots but learning everything takes time. Expect to spend several months building proficiency.

The upside for me is a giant leap forward as a photographer. I've been a redneck snapshooter for many, many years (my first digital was a 4mp!) but never built a consistent method with consistent good results. The Canon 7D Mark II has been a breathtaking experience so far. It takes discipline to build control muscle-memory and instantly respond to needed exposure adjustments, but the payoff is a growing portfolio of once-in-lifetime photos. I love it!

Great Camera for the budget profesional

I love the features and the speed of taking the photos I can achieve.
as well as working with the lesser priced lenses.
love the 2 card ability to save to 2 mem cards at once as back up.

my first one, bought 2 years ago had problems that I did not think were factory defects, but it turns out, they were.
all the photos I took with an "on boar flash" were green when on the "flash" preset white balance.
I thought it was just ' more sensitive chip ' but, NO. just bad CMOS.

my 7D MII from 2 years ago, started having issues after 300,000 photos. my shutter speed dial would stop working for a few minutes on every job. Canon repaired it twice, but I stopped using it, sold it as used.
so just now bought a brand new one and on a job last night, it did it in the new one as well for 1 minute.

Fantastic Camera and bought at a great price

The camera itself is clearly a top quality camera. It has an average weight to it, but still very manageable (depending on what lens you use). There are a few things to get used to, but a bit of online research will help get up to speed. All of the buttons seem to be well placed and overall the quality of the images are also fantastic. This is probably owed to the 10 FPS and sensor size.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

The AK-47 of cameras.....10 frames per second!

WOW....This camera is Canon's idea of a machine gun....10 frames per second is really fast if you need it to be...The instruction manual is over 400 pages. The settings are endless....which means, if you can master it.....this camera can really improve your photos....if not...you may need help videos (you-tube). I bought this camera as a "move up" from a canon T21......what a JUMP!.. I also bought this 7D mark 2 because all my lenses will still work with this beast.. (crop sensor 1.6)..I DO highly recommend this camera, as the used price, ($500 to 1000.00) is more the fair for this much Canon quality and features. This is a 5 star camera. (my favorite thing to do when I go out with my Nikon friends is put on the music "Bad to the bone"....aim the camera at them...and hit the SHUTTER! 10 fps....for as long as the buffer holds up!....Fast CF cards needed....CHEERS! GO CANON!Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Solid camera with a lot of features for action, sports and general photography

I love this camera due its ergonomics. If you have used a previous 7D or 5D camera you'll feel like home with the 7D Mark II. The camera has the best button layout for focusing in take photos and forget everything else. Sure, the camera has a lot of features in order to optimize sports and birds shooting, if you need the camera for those purposes you have to learn in detail how to use its complex autofocus system. If your shoot for travel photography like me, that excellent focusing system is ideal for compose and capture subjects with precision and speed, better that anything in the Canon lineup. Image quality is excellent, you'll only complaint about this point if you have to shoot in really dark environments without tripod (ISO 6400 or more). Otherwise this camera produces sharp and crisp pictures in every situation, with excellent color rendition and good dynamic range. Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Great for low light picture taking...I bought for football game pictures!

I bought this camera because I wanted to take pictures of my son's varsity football games that generally start at 7 or 7:30 p.m. Hence, I needed a camera that could take high quality photos in low light situations, with fast action. Prior to buying this camera, I was using the Canon 30D. There is absolutely no comparison! That said, the lens one chooses to use makes a big difference. I purchased just the body because I already owned great quality Canon lenses that let in the maximum amount of light. If you use just the standard lens that comes with the camera, then you cannot expect to get the most out of the camera's potential...at least not in low light situations! I also bought the best compact flash card that I could find, so that the write speed to the card wasn't slowing down my ability to capture every moment of the game. My old card and camera would read "busy" at all the wrong times and I would miss moments that I had really wanted to capture. I love that I can take extremely rapid fire bursts of photos. However, I did end up buying a second battery for the camera because taking rapid bursts of pictures drained my battery at one game where it actually died with seconds left in the game. Though that hasn't happened since that one game...at least now I am prepared. Vollständige Rezension lesen...

So many features, so little time. Lol

Not a beginners camera. I've been using Canons for 30 years and I'm no professional but to get the most out of this camera you need at least a decent understanding of how cameras work. The video is amazing. I shoot a lot of kids sports, dune action and other motor sports and the shutter speeds available with the ISO range it has make shooting fast moving action in almost any light really rewarding. I'm still learning the camera and probably will for a great while but in the short time I've been using it, well, it was worth every dime.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

A Really Excellent Camera

The Canon 7D Mk II has a complex auto focusing system, but its complex for a reason, to provide the best autofocus possible in a wide range of difficult target subjects. The "A" setting in the drive mode will give you automatic auto focus but Av, Tv and P modes will require some work to set up a predetermined type of autofocus. This is not all that difficult if you read the instructions or, as in my case, I found simple instructions online in a PDF format that allowed me to set up the autofocus in minutes. With that done, the camera can produce images with super focus. It's a relatively large camera but I have big hands so that's ok. When travelling or needing a lighter smaller camera system I use Olympus cameras.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
