Awesome title, tons of fun

This is a really nice blend of RPG and FPS, all wrapped together with some gruesome storytelling, amazing graphics, and a whole lot of fun. I love the off-color humor, and light-hearted game play. It really gives you the feel that you're on Pandora, and you're actually hunting for the Vault. The leveling system is nice, and gives you ample opportunity to customize whichever character you choose to your own desires.

My only real gripe is that the weapons feel recycled, like the new gun is just a slight modification of an old gun. I'm also finding that I'm specializing in a few weapons that seem to outdo the rest. Namely, sniper rifles and shotguns seem to hold a huge advantage. The game is also really easy, as long as you don't go to places that are way above your level. The concept of a second chance (kill something while dying to get back up) makes it really difficult to get killed.

Overall this is a great game, and one that I'd recommend to anyone whose interested in picking up either a new FPS, or a Falloutesqe game.

Borderlands Ps3

Borderlands is an excellent first person rpg'er with loads of replay value, loads of weapons add to that a backwoods wasteland approach with all the characters and this guy offers hours of fun. I found myself playing it 6 hrs solid the first time I popped it in. Saying, "just one more mission!" Then the next thing you know it was 2 in the morning. The enemy AI is about on par too and once shot at or alerted take paths to get to you that offer them cover. Some of the enemies are just psychotic and will go into a beserker state to all out attack you. They're fast....really fast! This isn't zombie speed from the earlier Resident Evil games. These foes will be on top of you in a hurry, especially while you're having to reload. I give Borderlands an 8/10 making it a must buy if only for the co-op (online) experience alone.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

This game is cool as hell

The graphics are very detailed and the gameplay is really cool. I love that it's not just super easy and it's a compelling storyline, you end up playing more just to see what's going on.

Addictive like crack!

This game is addictive like very few other games. I've played it online, in LAN parties, split-screen with friends and even with my wife. They all like its fast paced, sandbox-type of approach. There are a few things that we would have liked to see, such as exchanging ammo among players instead of just weapons and equipment. However, it does introduces some new features to the FPS genre such as "Second Wings" which allow you to safe allies or fight for your own life when facing death. That's a nice feature when playing with teams, because we don't have to fall back near spawning points.Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Borderlands Review

Easily one of the best PS3 games out there. If you're big on the multiplayer co-op experience, then this is definitely your game. The graphics were hard to get used to at first, but a couple minutes into the game you realize its perfect with the atmosphere of the game. If you're not into FPS games or if youre looking for a hard core RPG, then this isn't your game.

Pros -
Awesome Multiplayer coop
Casual FPS/RPG
Game remains interesting until the end
Great music
Humoristic Dystopian Atmosphere

Cons -
Weak RPG and FPS for hard core players
Quite boring playing alone
Weapons could have used more variety and customization
$10 for DLC is a bit expensive especially when Mad Moxxi is crappy
Limited to 4 pre-set characters that differ slightly

Great blend of FPS and RPG!

So there are quite a few components to this game, so I will try to review ones I feel important.

Single Player: This is very fun even with no one playing with you. It is very often better to go single player on some quests because if you play with random people, they will often take the best loot, even if they don't need it. Another aspect is that many times it is laggy online, so obviously single player prevents this.

Online: This is extremely fun if you have friends that play the game as well! Just imagine going around killing endless things with awesome weapons and your friends. It is also more effective in gaining experience and more powerful weapons/items. The voice chat usually is bad, but can be solved by just using the Text Chat Rooms from the XMB.

Weapons: This is one of the most interesting aspects of the game. There are TONS of weapons, and I honestly have not seen the same one twice. They organize them with type of weapon (Shotgun, Combat Rifle, SMG, etc...) and manufacturer. They can also have elements added and different bonus stats, which is why I haven't seen a single repeat yet (with the exception of unique weapons).

FPS/RPG Blend: So this game looks and feels like an open world FPS. The RPG aspect comes into it almost entirely passively. You have one class skill that you use, and every other skill is more of an upgrade to either the class skill, weapons, or armor/health.

All in all, it is an excellent game that filled a very cool niche. As someone that loves both FPS and RPG's seperately, I felt the game did justice by combining the two. Get this game if you are on the fence, because you will thank me later. It has great replay value as well, with going through the game at a tougher and higher level setting, called Playthrough 2. This is where the best items come from. The replay also comes from playing online with others and helping them out or just simply going back to places and killing stuff.

PS3 Borderlands review

This is a great FPS with a good sense of humor thrown in. I really like the cell shaded style used and the hunderds of thousands of guns available. The weakest element is the storyline, which never really ascends past "you seeks treaurez!"

I think before the DLC came out - getting to level 50 and platinuming the game would probably have gotten boring and involved grinding for random enemies. But the three new mission sets add even more gameplay options.

Try it and if you like it, the Genreal Knoxx DLC out for the game adds new levels, weapons, and raises the level cap from 50 to 61. The Dr Ned DLC is a great zombie fighter and is a nice homage to L4D. The Moxxi DLC is the weakest as it has little experience, but the challenge of her arenas is great for mulitiplayer.

Halo + Diablo = Borderlands

What do you get when you combine 1 part Halo with 1 part Diablo and a big bag of brilliant level design? What you get is one really fun and rewarding game. In the beginning you pick 1 of the 4 characters and you're thrown into the game world, a planet called "Pandora". Each of the characters in the game offer something unique with different action skills and innate abilities. The characters are balanced well. There is humor in the game as well and a very distinctive style to everything. When Borderlands decided to go with a semi-cellshaded look I protested... However, now I can't imagine the game any other way. The look of the game is both distinct and awesome. There are drivable vehicles with questionable physics (2 kinds). BUT what makes the game so awesome is the randomly generated guns and other loot that the planet Pandora is littered with. Opening a loot chest offers excitement every time that you do it. The developers claim there are 1.7 million guns in the game. The number of truly unique guns is less though. The levels are NOT randomly generated, instead they are made with lots of detail and thought. There are plenty of hidden treasures to which you have to jump to. You earn experience by killing enemies or by doing missions. The level cap in Borderlands is 50... (In Fallout 3 it was only 20, for me Borderlands Fallout 3). The story in Borderlands is not the best but its NOT terrible either. What makes Borderlands so great is its gameplay. There is a co-op mode allowing player to join together to do quests on-line or through split screen. Borderlands is filled with variety that never fades. I could give Borderlands no less than 5 stars because I beat the game 3 times! I decided to play it over the other hundreds of games that I have :)Vollständige Rezension lesen...

Super Duper Fun Multiplayer Split screen

I have played this game both single player and multi-player. In single player it can get a little boring as some of the monsters you need to kill are hard to kill alone. The loot that drops doesn't mean much to you in single player as it does when playing with someone in split screen mode. I have never played online so not sure how that is, but if it is like split screen where any loot that drops is free game then it could really suck.

The splitscreen of this game is probably the most fun I have ever had playing a game that has splitscreen. You and your partner loading up into your cars and going to do a mission feels so right. The loot that drops means something as your partner can use it or you can sell it. The communication between your partner and you seems to drive the game. Get some health back here or their is a gun for you etc.. just feels awesome. The fact that each screen is independent of the other screen was a very nice touch. What I mean is your partner can be in the character menu and you can be buying something at the shop. That was very very nice touch and was glad to see that I did not have to wait for my partner to finish what he was doing in order to do my own thing within my character screen and or shop. The only downfall with this option is the frames per second take a dip when someone opens their character menu, it happens for 2 seconds and back to the same fps. As soon as I rented it and we both played via splitscreen I went to ebay and bought it. It is that good of a game when you play splitscreen.

why is Borderlands worth the buy?

This game is great! it is perfect for those of you who love the Free Roaming type of games. If you loved Fallout 3 and Oblivian you will most deffinatly love this one! there is litteraly OVER 7 MILLION weapon variations! it is INSANE, i have never played a game with this many ways to kill stuff and blow crap up. The game has a pretty interesting sense of humor as you roam along the wasteland, it may be mature humor not for children but it will get you to giggle once in a while. Another plus to this game is the amount of Missions you can complete. If you decide to do every mission in the game you will be spending plenty of time on Borderlands, not to mention the DLC or Map Packs that are now out for this game. There is a total of 3 Add on Maps you can purchase from PSN or X-Box Live. I have also heard talk of there being even MORE DLC Maps! But what if you want to play this game with a friend? thats not an issue either because online you can play Co-op with up to 4 other friends! you can also have the old school Deathmatch to see if your character is better than your friends. the games online also includes Leaderboards to see where you are in the ranks in the world of Borderlands. I almost forgot the Vehicle cutomazation, pick your vehicle to have Machine Guns, Missile launchers and other things that go BOOM! The main reason i bought this game is because i needed a change from MW2 and other things. Overall it is a nice change and i would recomend this game to anyone who enjoys First Person Shooters or any kind of Sand Box/Free Roam games.Vollständige Rezension lesen...
